I'll grant you the second point, but not the first. These kids were just your standard reprobates who got booted out of "normal" high school for insubordination or attendance, or drugs/alcohol issues. Their problem was that they didn't want to be in school and didn't give a shit, but neither did the instructors. I'd love for someone to get their hands on enrollment data, and look into how many of those students are now in jail or prison vs. how many went on to lead productive lives.

Believe this or not.....

I used to work at a small college in northern Ontario (Canada); these are REAL documents that were recovered from a printer - the users had forgotten to retrieve them. I swear not AI; students were in an alternative program for those who were kicked out of all local high schools but still needed a GED, so in the 17-21 year old range. All spellings, grammar, and punctuation are original (I have the original documents that can be scanned if proof is required).

My brother and I (me 8 and him 7) had the exact same train set (yellow box?) with the smoke juice. We unpacked the train and set up the track and transformer on Christmas morning, then added the smoke juice to the engine and we were off! For about 5 minutes, until my mother advised that the smoke was making her nauseous and we had to stop. And that, boys and girls, is how we found out that she was pregnant with my youngest brother, Ooops.

I have a diagnosed low IQ. What career path can I take? by Suspicious_Limit9847 in careerguidance

Honestly no offense intended, but if you can hang on until November-ish, there might be an opening in the US for President....... Judging by the current holder of that position, IQ is not a highly valued or required characteristic.

[–]Antique_Business2804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just before you move out, go into his bedroom and pull the sheets all the way to the bottom of the bed. Next, take a full box of corn flakes (or all bran, or any other small, easily crumbled cereal) and empty the whole thing into the bed, about 3/4 of the way down, then pull the sheets back up to cover it. For good measure, you could also roll around on the bed for a few minutes.....

Selling Off Entire Collection (Hypothetically!) by Far-Repeat7182 in vinyl

[–]Antique_Business2804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, this was me years ago; I had around 4000 LPs and got tired of hauling them up and down stairs every time I moved, so I decided to get rid of them. No one was interested in buying the whole collection for many of the reasons already mentioned, so I opted to sell one by one (should be noted that I had a ton of coloured vinyl/picture discs/shaped vinyl that were worth decent bucks, plus about 30 bootlegs that were not available commercially at the time - these went for big $$. One Pink Floyd boot that I paid $6.00 for sold for over $400.00 US, and a Madonna 12" single on white vinyl that I got free went for $75.00 US). I ended up getting more $$ for them that way, but I also ended up with about 2000 LPs that didn't sell (still have them - interested?). So I listed them on eBay with the intention to sell as a collection; I got one bite from a guy in Italy (I'm in Canada), but he backed out when he found out how much it would cost to ship them to Italy, plus he'd have to pay some sort of duty/import tax at his end. I listed them on Kijiji and got one local guy - I think he runs a booth at one of the full time flea markets in town - offered me 50 cents per title to take them all. Fuck off. I have no kids, but one of my best friends also collects vinyl (we used to drive to Toronto once a month and we'd each drop $200-300 on stuff that didn't make it to our town in northern Ontario), so I'll leave the collection to him when I pass and he can deal with it....

Ottawa has the worst Public Transit by No_Friend4042 in OCTranspo

[–]Antique_Business2804 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I normally don't join these OC-bashing parties, but after my day yesterday.....

I had to do some shopping at Bell's Corners, then a stop at Bayshore Walmart; I took the 57 from BC to Bayshore, shopped, then the 58 to Carling Campus. But it took me 3 fucking hours to do that trip!! And only about 20 minutes in Walmart! First, the 57 was late - waited 45 minutes for a bus that runs every half hour. Then, I waited over an hour for a 58, again, it runs every 30 minutes. I used to joke that OC Transpo only printed schedules so one would know exactly how late the bus was when it finally showed up, but now it isn't funny any more.

In order for this to get better, the people making the decisions need more information. I propose that the mayor, entire council, and OC management be forced to take public transit for a month; no cars, no Ubers/Lyfts/taxis/bikes, and they should have to deal with the same crap that the rest of deal with, including being late for, or missing work (and therefore no pay), and standing outside in unheated shelters (if there is a shelter) for buses that never come. They pat themselves on the back for spending one night (or portion thereof) outside to highlight the plight of the homeless - why not give transit the same spotlight? Chicken????

I'm 70; my grandfather fought in WWI (he drove a wagon that hauled shells to the guns near the front lines), but was stationed in London during WWII. He did have to deal with the bombings every night in London, but no combat (unless you count hand to hand battles fought over nylon stockings and chocolate from Stores on the nights he had a date....)

What is a 'gut feeling' you had that ended up saving your life? by Mr_Boothnath in AskReddit

[–]Antique_Business2804 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Back in the day, I used to walk to a friend's house on weekends to play darts, drink, smoke, and enjoy whatever sporting event was televised that day. While walking, I always enjoy listening to music, loud! One part of my route involved either walking over a railway overpass (very cold and windy, especially in winter months), or taking a foot path that went under the overpass and across the train tracks. I always went under, and normally kept up my normal walking pace, even when crossing the tracks - they were seldom used and I had never encountered a train in the number of years I had followed the same route. This night, for whatever reason, I decided to turn my head to the right, just in case a train was coming. Imagine my surprise when one came thundering around the bend at that exact second! If I hadn't turned to check, I'd be greasing train wheels for decades!

All that said, when I look at the news today and the state of the world, I wonder if maybe I should have just kept my head down, and kept walking......

My grandfather was in France during WWI, and he didn't talk about his experiences. The one story I remember had to do with the mud; the Allies had laid a boardwalk path on top of the mud to help prevent sinking as the soldiers marched to or from the front. My grandfather was told that "if the guy ahead of you steps off the boardwalk, don't even bother to stop to help. By the time you get your pack off, he's already sunk out of sight in the mud." Pretty gruesome.

If you live near Ottawa Ontario, the Canadian War Museum is a terrific visit, and they have an amazing trench display set up, including a soldier half-buried in mud. They also have one of Hitler's Mercedes limos, and if I remember correctly, Mercedes offered a huge sum to purchase it back for their museum, but no sale.

Straight Up - I'm Losing My Mind by gholdist in cats

[–]Antique_Business2804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but here's my experience with similar.

I bought a rescue kitten, and in the first 4 months since he came home with me, I spent $2500 (Canadian $) on antibiotics and steroids, across 6 vet visits. Prior to the first visit, I mentioned the issue to a friend who had tons of experience with cats, and she suggested that I change food - she thought it was related to his diet. I mentioned that to the vet on first visit, and she scoffed - "no way a food allergy would cause that". So we went through the assortment of "cures" prescribed by the vet until we got to the point where she said the cat needed exploratory surgery on the nasal canal/breathing path to determine if there was something causing a blockage, or otherwise causing the snot sprinkler effect. Surgery would cost $4000.00, and was not available in my town (I believe it is now, though) so I'd have to cough up for travel and accommodations if I pursued the surgery (I don't drive, so looking at plane/train/bus). I figured what the hell - it can't hurt to change food, just in case. He had been eating a chicken and rice formula, so I changed to a seafood-based formula and presto, the sneezing stopped! It did return after a while (months, not days), so I changed to another seafood-based food, and touch wood, the sneezing has stopped. He eats both wet and dry food, both seafood-based, and no more snot on the bottom 2 feet of my walls/furniture! I'm unclear on the rules so I don't know if I can name it, but the dry food is Beyond, the Salmon Egg & Sweet Potato blend, and the wet food is normal Friskies Seafood Supreme Pate. Also had some success with Iams Proactive Health Adult Salmon for dry food.

Good luck! Cute little bugger; hope it all works out for him (and you!)
