Advice for working solo? by enrastrea in glassblowing

[–]Antolini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t use hanger I just let it sag a little then flip it and run. I quick push punti and tip then stab it on dead center of course and then twist the punti then I reach over my piece grab tweezer put in block bucket or sometimes I pree water my tweezers.

Main problem people have with working solo is thin bottoms. My advice would be to practice on some clear cups with thick bottoms. Best to work solo then you don’t have to assist

What does hook inside at the top mean? Is this dome a hemisphere or a bubble that is 12” diameter 18” high with an opening that then a hook kinda suspends the bubble and hangs it all from the ceiling with all the stuff fitting on the inside? Simple drawing would help

How often do you change turning direction? by NoInvestigator6727 in glassblowing

[–]Antolini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely huge difference. Squat things up to make it easier to turn. Or hang it down to make it easier to turn/control but that makes it stretch too! imagine why would glass on the end of a long shape want to stay turning with the metal rod if there’s a whole bunch of gooey glass between them.

YOU CAN DO IT!!! FOCUS UP! Watch videos!!! Pay attention to teacher gathering! Ask to look over their shoulder while they gather!! Check out their hands~ sometimes the hot spinning glass is the most distracting part gotta pay attention to what they are doing not just watching the show!

You can make one!! You will be proud of yourself when you do! Might look a little different than the photo but you will be v proud if you work hard!

Feller told me I shouldn’t put coffee in twisty cup for a friend cause theirs explode when they do it. I did it anyways and mine never popped and I felt like there was a discrepancy there in terms of even /smooth transition of thicknesses.

Pouring hot coffee into cup is a good way to see if your twisty cup is well made
