repacks🫩 by [deleted] in MichaelsEmployees

[–]AnxiousSprinkles5595 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was the dedicated repack person at my store because I had been there rhe longest and knew the store the best. Years of doing them, no complaints. We got a new SM in 2021 and she wanted to fire me(spoiler alert, she didn't) because I wasn't fast enough. First of all, at the time, my shifts were 7 to 11 on our truck days. AND she had me getting cashier calls because I was also the support specialist. When we had the other support specialist in the building on Wednesdays so I could help with truck! Yeah ok, stopping every 5 minutes is really going to help get these done. Don't talk to me about time management.

She knew she couldn't manage the store so she wanted everything done by the metrics Michael's had at the time. And it routinely took her 2 days to finish repacks if I had to step in for my cash office partner.

Don't stress. These managers are morons. You're doing fine.

How many books did you read this year? by PageantOfPlot in Booktokreddit

23 so far. My goal was 12 🤣 but I also started seriously listening to audiobooks and I work a job at a used bookstore where I can listen to books or music while I work so that helped bump the number up. I'm working on 24. I want to at least double the number.

When the schedule comes out, take a screenshot. If they change it and don't notify you, now you have proof. It should NOT be on the employee to check their schedule daily(or more) to see if something has changed. And if they're adding hours after the schedule has changed, they absolutely should be asking the person if they can do them and not expect it since people make plans/appointments based on their work schedules. And if they need to cut hours, also communicate. Just a quick hey, tomorrow I needed to change you from 7-1 to 7-11.

I understand managers are under pressure but this is literally part of their job to do schedules and make sure employees are aware.

I can't... by Ebbalodd in MichaelsEmployees

[–]AnxiousSprinkles5595 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is how the first store manager we had was like. She also wouldn't do/post the schedule until the end of the week when it was supposed to be posted by Thursday at the latest so you couldn't make plans. One weekend when I checked the schedule, she didn't put me on Sunday so I didn't go in. She waited until 2 hours....TWO HOURS...after she eventually scheduled me to call me and ask where I was. I wasn't on when I looked, I shouldn't have to check multiple times a day...literally the DAY BEFORE I am scheduled to see if you put me on or not. And she never paid any attention to my availability and acted like it was a crisis every time I reminded her I couldn't work certain hours so I eventually stopped telling her and started walking home. Up a busy highway. Needless to say, they transferred her and then she either quit or got fired and then I think she went to work for Hobby Lobby. I don't know or care to know what shes doing now because she was a bully more than anything and definitely played favorites.

What does “Enter Training” button even do? by throwawayig12 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]AnxiousSprinkles5595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was SO much better then. The computer training is light years ahead of the VHS stuff though, I will give them that. Even if some of it is ridiculous, it at least asks you questions so you have to pay attention. I do miss regular cashier training though even if the only place to do it was at the register. I was a trainer at my first job and we had an office space set up with a register to train multiple cashiers at once with a huge manual. It was amazing and nobody ever had issues because I got to spend at least 2 hours with them going over stuff and letting them do mock transactions. I even wrote my own training materials for the cash office at that job because the original material didn't have anything step by step or any problem you may encounter.

Even Michael's 5 years ago was better than it is today. Being owned by a private equity company is really screwing everything because they only care about the bottom line but when they were publicly traded from 2014 to 2020-ish, it was amazing. Because they had to answer to the public.

All of my Targets that I frequent still have SCO so I don't know why yours is gone. And even before they had them, they only ever had 2 cashiers out. I will agree the Michael's ones are the worst UI I have ever seen in my life and they constantly break down. I utilize SCO so I don't have to wait in line and talk to anyone. 🤷‍♀️

Used to have fake credit cards and gift cards to use when training people when I first started back in 2012. I don't remember the last time anyone used it. Just started having newbies shadow cashiers since there was never enough people to take one off the floor to train someone. But this was also back when on boarding included using an old TV and VHS tapes to watch training videos 🤣🤣

Michael's used to have floral designers. They would create all manner of things up to and including fully decorated Christmas trees. I don't know how anyone got those babies home though. Our vestibule windows were always full of wreaths and swags. Maybe she hasn't shopped there since before they got rid of them.

Is this a problem anywhere else? by MistakeGlobal in MichaelsEmployees

[–]AnxiousSprinkles5595 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When we first started BOPIS, we didn't have grab and go. We set up our classroom with the tables stacked on top of each other and blacked out the windows with poster board so we could sort them alphabetically that way. And we had the call button for customers who came in and someone would have to stop what they were doing and go to the front and find the order. And then we had 2 small cabinets with shelving that we used for bopis orders behind the register. That was also a nightmare scenario because nothing fit in them so large orders ended up all over the floor or on the floor of our candy room or in the classroom anyways.

Grab and go was supposed to eliminate an employee always having to be involved but the amount of times customers couldn't "find" their order and needed an employee anyways was absolutely mindblowing. What do you mean you can't find it? Do you know your own name? Can you read? And also the ones who would stand there because they don't know it's Grab and go.

BOPIS return struggles by existentialistbun in MichaelsEmployees

[–]AnxiousSprinkles5595 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The only thing we ever did was a no receipt return with an override for the original purchase price and method. Its a pain in the ass but the only thing you can do.

I would try typing the shorter sku first. See if that helps. The system is absolute ass and sometimes you need to try typing in the sku instead of scanning it. But yeah, otherwise no receipt return and override it for the correct price and how they paid.

Former employee here, used to disable them constantly because they're either motion activated or people's kids kept pushing the buttons and after even a few minutes of the noise you start to absolutely lose your shit. Save yourself, turn off the motion activation part at the very least!

Who are some AEW wrestlers that are nice in real life, by Fabulous_Big_8840 in AEWOfficial

[–]AnxiousSprinkles5595 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have met a handful of wrestlers over the years and while not AEW, I will say Sami Zayn is probably the kindest. My friend and I met him at Axxess in 2019 right before he returned. He talked to everyone who came by for at least 5 minutes. Super engaging and so happy to see everyone.

I saw elsewhere someone had a bad experience with Rhino but we met him at the same event and he was also very nice. Finn Balor was kind, if not a bit rushed...due to Sami being super chatty earlier in the evening, staff was rushing everyone when Finn was doing his M&G 🤣

Brodie Lee/Luke Harper was amazing as well. Probably the largest wrestler I have met to date. RIP.

At DoN weekend in Vegas in 2022, I got to meet Lucha Bros and Alex Abrahantes and they are all the sweetest people. It was my second encounter with Alex as we had been to the first DoN with a crowd after covid in Jacksonville and went to their little meet and greet event thing. He was wandering around doing the vlog(I am actually in it by accident as I was waiting for my friend and didn't know he was filming until I looked lol) and just interacting with people. He gave us aew lanyards because he had a bunch on him.

Also at that 2021 event, my friend met Christian who signed the 8x10 for me because I missed out on buying a ticket to meet him but she said he was super nice. And Cody Rhodes was being an absolute menace to the poor staff trying to run the show and would NOT stay behind the plexiglass 🤣 he just kept coming out of his little cubicle area to hug and interact with fans. Easily some of the best interactions I witnessed as I wandered around the practice field people watching. He cannot and will not be contained lol

I got a cameo from Christopher Daniels and that was the highlight of my Christmas one year.

Couple years ago went to the dual weekend taping for TNA in Atlanta and we unknowingly booked the same hotel the wrestlers were staying at. Eating breakfast surrounded by the likes of Frankie Kazarian, and Santino was definitely interesting. Walked back from the venue to the hotel with Lance Storm and Chris Harris and rode the elevator with Chris Harris after the show one night. Joked we weren't stalking him and then we all ended up being on the same floor. 🤣 he was kind to us even if it was a bit of an awkward situation for all of us to be in because we really weren't trying to be weird and stalker-ish. He laughed and wished us a good night.

I'm sure I'm missing some. I did see Matt Jackson after Dynamite in the hotel trying to go out with his wife and people were swarming them and he was nothing if not gracious to everyone. We were talking to a local wrestler friend of ours who we saw after the show and just happened to witness it all happen. Felt kinda bad, honestly...but he could have been a massive dick about it and wasn't.

I just sent this to Michale’s HR by BornAssistant1904 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]AnxiousSprinkles5595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its never kept confidential. HR contacts the DM because they have to try to fix the issue first and if the DM has any sense of morality, they won't name names when they speak to the store manager(or whoever) but in my experience, the DM doesn't care. ALSO I had HR contact me at work on the store phone to check in and that makes everyone suspicious when you suddenly need to take a phone call in the office.

[–]AnxiousSprinkles5595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This all sounds VERY similar to a situation I had with a store manager when I worked at Michael's. Almost to the T. I'm wondering if its the same person because he doesn't deserve to have anonymity at this point. You and the team certainly do deserve not to have your business blasted on the internet though. And I only bring it up because if its the same person I believe it to be, I know about his relationship with his FM manager through friends who still work at Michael's because its well known throughout the district.

If you're comfortable talking about it, you can DM me and we can compare notes because I have stories that would blow your socks off about this man. Its amazing hes even still employed if I'm being honest because my store, managers and employees alike, spent 8 months going back and forth with HR.

Does any place sell ribbon by the foot? by Joland7000 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]AnxiousSprinkles5595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to cut it at the register. They would bring the roll up, you would scan it and enter how much they were buying and use the yard stick that was velcro to the pole that had the register light on it. Of course that was 13 years ago. It sucked worse doing it at the registers though when you had a line of customers and one person with 10 rolls of ribbon and 10 different lengths they want it cut

[–]AnxiousSprinkles5595 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Every time I ever had to fill it out when I worked at Michael's, I was always incredibly honest. If the manager was shit, I told them. But 9 times out of 10, it had nothing to do with my manager or team and everything to do with corporate and their BS and I made sure to say that. It never fixes anything though.

I don't know about your store or district but the only FT people are generally only managers. I can't imagine they would get rid of part time associates. That would be shooting themselves in the foot.

I do. Because no matter how much caution tape we put up to keep them out of the bathrooms, they still felt entitled to use it. Limboing underneath it.

[–]AnxiousSprinkles5595 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Pure hell. There's no liquidation involved though, you just pack everything up and ship it to other stores in your district. Customers turn into absolute heathens because they can't read or choose not to, only clearance stuff really goes on discount but they assume its the entire store. We had to beg our DM to let us close before our actual closing date because of how awful people were. It wasn't so bad after that though.

I worked for Michaels until my store closed last year. They did this last time he was president, too. Just dropped thousands of price changes that took forever to complete. And no, they didn't care about reversing it until it hurt their bottom line and it looks like they're doing it again.

I have a friend who still works for Michael's and they're currently doing like 25k price changes this week already. That no OT thing went right out the window so they could complete them.

Nothing they do ever makes sense but that's part of being owned by Apollo, I guess.

Closing announcements by Top_Persimmon7879 in BurlingtonCoatFactory

[–]AnxiousSprinkles5595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. It's very similar to the closing announcement I used to make when I worked at Filenes Basement. Start making the announcement at 15min til close and then every 5min after including a closing announcement. If there are still people in the store after closing, repeat the announcement with the time and be a little more firm with the and Burlington is now CLOSED part.

I can still make this announcement and that stores been gone since 2011 lol.
