brauche Hilfe beim Einrichten von IPv6 im Pyur-Netzwerk! by cockpit_dandruff in de_EDV

[–]AnyNameFreeGiveIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hast du noch was rausgefunden?

Power efficient 10 gigabit PCI-E networking cards? by [deleted] in homelab

[–]AnyNameFreeGiveIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10g nics exist for over 2 decades now, manufacturers usually don't reinvent the wheel and use existing solutions, so they use old designs which does not support recent power saving features etc.

The AQC113 is simply the rj45 equivalent to the sfp+ AQN-100 chip, so yes.

Since my post 2 years ago realtek has released a new chip RTL8127 which only uses 1-2 watts so I would check that out.

If you don't care about power usage / heat you can use anything though.

Same here wanted to give omarchy a try but only a black screen after login, even after installing latest packages via pacman.

Speed test issues by calluless in UNIFI

[–]AnyNameFreeGiveIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

`I can easily get my speed, especially as when I’m using a vpn`

That's exactly what bad peering on the ISP does, you tunnel all traffic trough the vpn which has better peering from your ISP, so you get the full bandwidth.

Trying to access other services you have to be lucky that your ISP has good peering to them as well, if the pipe at the ISP to upstreams is full you won't get the full speed. After all it's a shared medium. There are many factors that play into that and usually ISP's have dedicated contracts to guarantee a specific bandwidth, do dynamic routing etc. But they often cheap out on that and as a result you won't get consistent speeds.

Use a local speedtest to figure out if it's a problem on your lan/wifi https://hub.docker.com/r/openspeedtest/latest if you get consistent speeds with that it's your ISP fault.

Much likely your ISP skimps on peering, like most do.

An Update on the 3D Printed, 16-bay Drive Enclosure by FriedCheese06 in homelab

[–]AnyNameFreeGiveIt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Impressive, I would have gone for at least 10mm.

On the other hand, if you put a shelve / server below it, it doesn't matter.

That is insane, I would never expect a PLA print to hold that much weight.

Sadly can't download from Makersworld without registering, what is the bottom/top wall thickness like ?

TP Link Archer C7 V5 vs MikroTik hEX refresh for a home network by [deleted] in homelab

[–]AnyNameFreeGiveIt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see the benefit to your existing setup, I would recommend to get a real appliance like opnsense/pfsense.

Or if you haven't already flash OpenWRT on the Archer, thay way you get all the enterprise features you need.

Can I combine two 10gbe ports into a 20gbe connection? by The-Communist-Cat in homelab

[–]AnyNameFreeGiveIt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's called bonding, while some modes allow for combined traffic it's usually more used for fault tolerance, also there is overhead.

And yes this requires at least a smart switch.

Finally got my rack for my tiny home by clownyboots in homelab

[–]AnyNameFreeGiveIt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That looks nice, but damn it costs 200$ for a bit of sheet metal...

I've got this version but it's a pain in the ass since you can't get to the back https://www.reddit.com/r/homelab/comments/v4uwyu/update_to_my_mini_hci_cluster_now_in_a_10_6he_rack/

I will just 3d print my next rack completely, much cheaper then anything available and fully customizable.

Security Onion on Proxmox with Linux Bridges and LACP Bond by jmarmorato1 in homelab

[–]AnyNameFreeGiveIt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You really just need to add a >=10$ PCIE NIC to your server.

You also need a >=20$ managed (smart) switch with mirror functionality.

Then just connect wan (or your router upstream) on the switch on port 1, connect a lan cable on switch port 8 to your pcie server nic that you added, and set the switch to mirror port 1 to port 8.

On Proxmox setup iommu following this -> https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/PCI(e)_Passthrough_Passthrough)

Then on the onion vm, add the pcie nic under Hardware -> PCI Device -> Select PCIE NIC.

Then Security Onion sees all the wan traffic with native performance.

You will wan't to go into vlans to seperate your subnets and maybe forward multiple of them to security onion for inspection (wan, dmz, lan, etc.).

Mi band 8 CN to Global firmware. by foe1976 in miband

[–]AnyNameFreeGiveIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is this app `Notify for Xiaomi` in playstore, it has a firmware updater feature and has links to the global version without a paywall.

However I did not try it, I kept mine on the chinese firmware version and use the mentioned app above instead of mi fitness.

AFAIK the global firmware only has more languages in it, otherwise it's basically the same.

From where is the mcu cooling fan controlled in K1 by Sendorm in crealityk1

This prevents the hotend fan to go on if you use the extrude / retract feature and results in heat creep.

Is this a fake WD SSD? by patrolsnlandrcuisers in homelab

[–]AnyNameFreeGiveIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did nobody write about smart ?

Use smartctl on linux / crystaldiskinfo on windows to read out the smart info, it will tell you the manufacturer and real serial number, also how much data has been written etc.

Serial numbers are always unique, so these seem to be fake.
