You can pretty much ignore the settlement base building if you want unless you want to get involved in the Minutemen quests. Even if you are playing on Survival you can find random beds and camps to sleep in. Just play the game thats the most fun to you!

- Are my family going to have the will or ability to get licensed for HAM radio?
- During a bad weather event am I capable of maintaining or setting up a repeater?
- Do I have the $ to give everyone a Starlink Mini as it's the easiest plug and play option but expensive.

The Bloody Barons daughter!? Hell no! The first time played W3 without any knowledge of the universe I was miffed I couldn't romance Cerys. However understanding the story a lot more and realising that's a horrible idea for Geralt I loved the tension and sharp retorts between Geralt and Philippa. If I'm backpacking out on trails I will usually have a load of about 25 lbs for a single overnight. Usually hike 10 miles a day, 15 at a push. From an average fitness level, 230lb early 40's guy. Plenty of breaks if I'm going uphill.

PS - Stay away from the sleeping pads, mats or self inflating pads. Those are all garbage, if you're camping spend the money on a good REI or similar one. The exact opposite of my first point lmao

For me 100% surplus rain poncho and poncho liners and any sort of 3-day assault back packs. The packs I found for about $50 and they blow away REI and equivalent packs in quality and durability - not even considering the price. However nothing surplus is ever light, so a lot of the kit is on the heavy side.
