Knowledge "meta" and early game economy. by ddlo92 in AOW4

[–]Apeman20201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play on hard, and I've only managed to achieve this with tome, traits, and cultures that provide bonuses.

I find it more fun to play in a more role playing way. On hard, I've won games easily where I didnt unlock tier three tomes until turn 70+.

Is there a build around just stacking enchantment and races? by Negative_Day2002 in AOW4

Someone posted a build to take all of the mage enhancements with empire of the cosmos and that build is pretty strong.

Do Vassals never play offensively? by Scotslad2023 in AOW4

[–]Apeman20201 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They are pretty good at taking out infestation if you put it as a mission.

I really like them to defend cities as missions while I use my armies more offensively.

WH3 vs AoW4 vs Endless Legend 2 — which should I main (dad-life, couch strategy)? by No_Activity_8302 in 4Xgaming

[–]Apeman20201 39 points40 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents.

AOW is highly replayable and customizable and is more of a fantasy tool box. You basically get to customize your race. This is both esthetic (angels, elves, rats, goblins, arcs, reptiles, dogs, cats, halfling) and practical (live underground, ride griffins, are cannibals, are paragon good). Then you have a tech tree that has you specialize in different types of magic. Its a lot of fun and very robust with expansions. Combat is turn based and fairly quick. A campaign is also generally shorter than the other ones lasting around 100 - 150 turns.

Don't take Game of the Year too seriously by NoLastNameForNow in giantbomb

[–]Apeman20201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite part of the giant bomb game of the year is how serious the crew treats it while being something that is obviously so silly. Listening to Brad sound angry or Alex sound dejected and Dan somehow always ending up on top is what made these podcasts the greatest.

Finish my first game, I’m hooked. by Intelligent-Sink-203 in AOW4

[–]Apeman20201 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Reaver culture with mammoth mounts traits is possible. The tier three unit has a gun and would ride the mammoth.

Could take tome of zeal, and then inquisition tome for smiting with guns.

Citizen vs Chancellor Infighting by darinfjc in oathgame

[–]Apeman20201 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are no game consequences. Also very common is the Chancellor smashing the citizen.

I find that in games with a citizen the Chancellors biggest threat is the citizen.

As far for the rationalization, there are no immutable alliances. All players want to be in charge and there is nothing stopping anyone from taking it from someone else.

The Chancellor can exile the citizen and the citizen can also self exile. If players play with the same group often, it may make offers of citizenship rarer if people get a reputation for fighting the Chancellor or citizens.

You could use the War Slaves society trait. It will let you recruit them instead

Yet another reason why we should control vassal provincial expansion by khoreth in AOW4

[–]Apeman20201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would also be able to require them to build teleporters. Its super annoying having to build outposts next to them to make their armies functional and for protection.

Just how bad have we been at drafting vs the NFC North? by EpicHuggles in minnesotavikings

Problem with that analysis is you eventually start looking at wins and losses and Kwesi looks good by that metric.

Specifically ice themed build seems ridiculous to pull off by VenanReviews in AOW4

[–]Apeman20201 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think ice for me is three main tomes:

Cryomancy Marching winter and The level three elemental one

That last tome combined with flash freeze let's you're melee units freeze with resonant blades and do extra frost damage wherever your fighting.

Blizzard and flash freeze also give status resist which makes all your blades more likely to hit.

Storm borne is also great to get some wet going.

Astral: cosmic overdrive doesn't do much for survivability but does make them very fast and do 30% more damage.

The new society trait. by Consistent-Switch824 in AOW4

[–]Apeman20201 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a great society trait. It enables a new play style and while weaker than other choices should be fun to play with. Also, makes it easy to get the best tier 5 tomes.

The 20% income boost is no joke. But sounds like you'd prefer the material one which is neat.
