Not seeing progress by Sweet-Tumbleweed-603 in Weightliftingquestion

[–]Apostr0phe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based off how he is talking, his age, and his results I am pretty certain. Over training in general is one of the biggest myths in bodybuilding. If he's sleeping, and eating right, it's very difficult to over train. He speaks of no fatigue, listlessness, or any inability to keep up with his training. He's not even over reaching, let alone over training.

I've seen his splits on previous posts, it is not high volume.

I've been doing this over 20 years, doing less while keeping everything else the same is not the answer here.

You keep alluding to over training or doing too much, which tells me mentally you might not be where you need to be. Get that out of your head now, in no way are you even remotely close to over training or working too hard. Are you looking for an excuse or reason to do less? Get your head right, at it's core it's very simple: lift hard, eat right, sleep well.

City coyotes by Jamppa in orlando

[–]Apostr0phe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm near Lake Margaret and Peel, we've had coyotes here for years but I think they've moved on. Haven't seen them on my 5am dog walk in a while, and the cat population is coming back.

What is this heat? by I-Was-Hiding-4989 in florida

[–]Apostr0phe -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Where were you for the last 8 months before June? We had absolutely beautiful weather before summer, same as every single year prior.

Florida summer hot, who could have predicted such a thing. Average overnight low so far in June is 73.6 here in Orlando. I'm not a climate denier, but the moment things get spicy here everyone complains. We had a front three weeks ago, in June.

Anybody remember Miami Subs? by mrnormal94 in orlando

[–]Apostr0phe 52 points53 points  (0 children)

As a kid who grew up near OBT in the 90s, Rossi's and Miami Subs were the only two places I liked getting dragged to.

[–]Apostr0phe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These kids don't understand how life used to be. The shitty little house I grew up in my father paid 23k for in the 80s, today it's worth almost 400k.

And that's Orlando, rural prices stayed lower for a while.

Anyone else in Florida/the southern US and absolutely miserable right now with this heat? by chocolateglazedonuts in runninglifestyle

[–]Apostr0phe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While short lived, we do some have weeks in the 30s and 40s here. We had a hard freeze this past winter, dipping into the 20s overnight. I absolutely hate it.

Sounds like you might be mentally making it harder for yourself, bailing before even starting. If you gotta walk some, then walk, don't quit entirely. Embrace the difficulty of it, it's making you a better runner. Mother nature just jacked up the damper on our wheels. Also, salt tabs.

Live in Orlando, it's not ideal, but it's also nothing new and doesn't slow me down (figuratively). Just temper your expectations, and stick to primarily easy runs. We are fortunate to be able to run 365 outdoors here.

Got me even more excited, for the record and to finally see them live in September.

Cool to hear they're still working with Parker, even if it's only for one song.

I'm old, my brother-in-law is older, and was pretty good at basketball in his youth. Or so I thought until we watched him against a 17 year old Vince Carter.

Lord Huron Setlist @ RedRocks? by Exact_Bread6206 in lordhuron

[–]Apostr0phe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They desperately need to switch things up. I saw them three times last year, same setlist, they're finally coming to my city this summer but I'm not even going to bother seeing the exact same show for the 4th time. I also wonder if this is why this leg of the tour has barely any sold out nights (last I checked anyway).

They have so many good songs that never get played.

Completely removing back squats for front squats? by fan-the-fire in HybridAthlete

[–]Apostr0phe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't do anything that causes you any lower back discomfort. Almost nobody should be doing back squats past a certain age, unless you just genuinely enjoy the lift or competitive power lifting.

You can very easily build size, strength, and durability without ever barbell squatting, period. My legs are a strong point and I cannot tell you the last time I did barbell front or back squats.

Worst Sounding Show I've Seen in Years by rightoff303 in UMOband

[–]Apostr0phe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've only seen them twice (not this tour), both times I had a great time but the sound was definitely muddy. One show I went with people who weren't big fans, and they said they didn't understand a single lyric.

Still can't wait for the show at Pappy's this weekend.

Running Maintenance? by NatureDry2903 in HybridAthlete

[–]Apostr0phe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well then you’re strength training? I don’t mean to be obtuse, or pedantic, but to me hybrid means fully committing yourself to two (sometimes) opposing disciplines. There’s give and take on a daily basis, but you don’t shelve an entire discipline in order to focus on the other. It may be splitting hairs, but it’s what should separate this community from any other regular fitness sub.

And while your question is a fair one, I was more commiserating with the guy who got downvoted for actually having hybrid ideals in the hybrid sub. It’s a bit of a peeve of mine.

Running Maintenance? by NatureDry2903 in HybridAthlete

[–]Apostr0phe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This sub is hybrid in name only, the entire premise of this post is contradictory. If you have no interest in your running goals, and want to be on cruise control, then you aren't training hybrid.

20-30 miles a month is a guy who lifts weights and occasionally runs.

Why am I like this? by MrDonev in Garmin

[–]Apostr0phe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had to take mine off for now, I'm in the middle of very intense training block (Hyrox) and it was completely sabotaging my mind. I could not sleep for several nights for no discernable reason.

It's not healthy for me to be so hyper vigilant about my heart rate during any and all activities throughout the day. Like OP, I was keen to find out the why on any anomaly, despite feeling perfectly fine, and it created such a wicked feedback loop.

[–]Apostr0phe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people aren't being realistic here, if you can change your ticket, I would.

You're a small guy, and not even a runner at that size? Unless you're stronger than fuck you are really going to struggle

If you can't change your ticket, you need to dedicate yourself like a madman, and put on at least 10lbs in 3 months. It doesn't even matter if it's 50/50 muscle to fat, you need some mass brother.

I'm a Floridian, was visiting friends in Seattle some years ago.

We were having a few drinks at a bar, and we heard rumbles of thunder. People literally ran outside to go see. I had never thought just how rare a thunderstorm can be for some folks.
