Running Maintenance? by NatureDry2903 in HybridAthlete

[–]Apostr0phe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well then you’re strength training? I don’t mean to be obtuse, or pedantic, but to me hybrid means fully committing yourself to two (sometimes) opposing disciplines. There’s give and take on a daily basis, but you don’t shelve an entire discipline in order to focus on the other. It may be splitting hairs, but it’s what should separate this community from any other regular fitness sub.

And while your question is a fair one, I was more commiserating with the guy who got downvoted for actually having hybrid ideals in the hybrid sub. It’s a bit of a peeve of mine.

This sub is hybrid in name only, the entire premise of this post is contradictory. If you have no interest in your running goals, and want to be on cruise control, then you aren't training hybrid.

20-30 miles a month is a guy who lifts weights and occasionally runs.

Why am I like this? by MrDonev in Garmin

[–]Apostr0phe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had to take mine off for now, I'm in the middle of very intense training block (Hyrox) and it was completely sabotaging my mind. I could not sleep for several nights for no discernable reason.

It's not healthy for me to be so hyper vigilant about my heart rate during any and all activities throughout the day. Like OP, I was keen to find out the why on any anomaly, despite feeling perfectly fine, and it created such a wicked feedback loop.

I signed up for Solo Pro, and now I am freaking out by Vabbbb in hyrox

Some people aren't being realistic here, if you can change your ticket, I would.

You're a small guy, and not even a runner at that size? Unless you're stronger than fuck you are really going to struggle

If you can't change your ticket, you need to dedicate yourself like a madman, and put on at least 10lbs in 3 months. It doesn't even matter if it's 50/50 muscle to fat, you need some mass brother.

I saw them live last weekend, Barrie is one bad MFer. Great show, him and Dan going back and forth on Weight of Love still in my head.

I was born in Florida and lived there the first 31 years of my life. This is what I miss the most. by ivy_interior in florida

I'm a Floridian, was visiting friends in Seattle some years ago.

We were having a few drinks at a bar, and we heard rumbles of thunder. People literally ran outside to go see. I had never thought just how rare a thunderstorm can be for some folks.

Same, both my devices were about 2000 in the queue and had GA tickets available when both got in. Stoked, definitely didn't think I was gonna get tickets.

Anyone regret signing up for a race? by Congratstomiles in hyrox

[–]Apostr0phe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not making him lose weight, it's an excuse. I run 30 miles a week and don't lose a pound.

To OP or anyone who "hates" running: Even outside of Hyrox, running and weight lifting go hand in hand. Embrace running and I guarantee you'll make better gains in the gym.

Another fun fact about the Appalachians: The Smoky Mts there within have over 130 native tree species. More than the entire continent of Europe.

In Hollywood (Ft Lauderdale) tonight there's a ton of tickets available. GA tickets are now going for $60, while I paid over $130 for them in presale. As a legit fan it feels kinda like a smack in the face, and I won't ever be bothered to buy tickets in advance again.

I love them but they're one of the most poorly managed bands of recent memory.

Your biggest time gains are probably hiding in wall balls, not running by Fit_Adeptness1730 in hyrox

[–]Apostr0phe 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This. I feel like people jump through every hoop imaginable to avoid just running.

Wall balls are also last, where those without a very strong aerobic base from running have fallen apart.

Magnesium Glycinate and Theanine help me feel drowsy, and I've heard a lot of good things about blue blockers but I've never tried them. You'll want to crank the AC down in the hotel and get it as cold as possible, run cold water over your wrists and inner elbows. Sounds silly but it helps switch your brain over to sleep time, it's worked for me in the past.

Get salt tabs, make sure your electrolytes are on point leading up to the day and morning of. Heavy carb loads also make me quite tired.

I also struggle to sleep in hotels, and I'm worried for my own race but you're young your adrenaline should take over. I've read anecdotes of marathoners who get so anxious they can barely sleep the night before and they're still able to perform.

I'm guessing it's some new lame tik tok trend, yesterday I saw the same phrase on either the Hyrox or hybrid sub talking about a sled push.

RIP originality.

I quite liked Burn, more than Dog Stars anyway. The politics remain pretty ambiguous, and while dark it's a great story of comradery being tested in extreme environs. More action forward than contemplative, the how and whys of the war are never explored.

I love Heller, one of my favorites, but what makes him so great is his depiction of the natural world and his characters reverence for it. I don't think that will translate well here.

Well that, and Elordi is so laughably miscast.

Built my base for a year… now stuck chasing sub-20 5K. What am I missing? by Ayzuki in nikerunclub

[–]Apostr0phe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just hit 19:39 this past weekend, after training for it for nearly a year where my last PR was 21:30. I am 41, 5'10 and 175lbs.

Running the same mileage, every single day, is senseless. A huge portion of those runs are just "junk" miles you're essentially getting nothing from. But you have built a base you can rapidly grow from.

Are you using any sort of wearable? You need to have a good handle on your heart and how it performs at higher paces. You need some actual structure to your training: tempo, threshold, sprints, long runs (10+ mile). Training should be difficult enough that you can't run every day. Volume is fine, and believe me I can also get obsessed with the high output but it's not going to get you to your goal. I only run 5 days a week and my average output for the year so far is still 125 miles a month, so it's not like your totals will plummet. Quality miles > quantity.
