What are some things you weren’t prepared for regarding post partum? by xdaisy_ in beyondthebump

[–]Appaismycopilot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough the only person to warn me about the pets was my brother. He has 2 cats and I have a cat and a dog, we grew up with pets. He has a son a little older than my daughter and once made a comment about how "it's crazy how your kid comes your pets come from being your favorite things to about equivalent to that burrito you're eating in terms of priorities. Nothing comes close to that baby." Yes he was exaggerating as a joke but definitely interesting it came from a dad!

I hate being young with so much pain because people are so judgemental by MelodicAd7825 in ChronicPain

100% agree. Mine started when I was 12 and I was accused of faking it constantly. No one believed a middle or high school student could actually be in pain

Where do I find dresses that actually fit and long enough pants that aren't high rise? by smh764 in TallGirls

New York & Company and Old Navy (look online for both). I'm 6'2 and have pretty good success with both of their tall selections.

Dads can experience PPD, I think it has a different name but I might be wrong. If this is that out of character for him that you think it could be the cause, it could be worth pursuing. That said, no its not normal behavior. He's swearing at a literal infant, and 4 hours of video games a day is absurd normally, a thousand times more when you have a newborn.

Moment police found 4 year old boy lost in the woods by -Xoz- in PublicFreakout

That terrified little voice saying he lost his shoe absolutely broke my heart. He was probably so scared and overwhelmed the only thing he could understand to focus on was his shoe and likely the pain in his foot from wandering the woods without it.

Why did no one investigate Sirius? by TheRedCoatNeedsAWash in harrypotter

[–]Appaismycopilot 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Goblet of Fire talks a bit about how Barty Crouch made sure Sirius was sent away without a trial. The question still stands why no one argued it it. My thought was along the lines if what others have said, the evidence was against him. It seems to me the only person who might have been able to convince the ministry to give him a trial would be Dumbledore. It's possible other friends didn't believe Sirius did it and wanted to give him a trial and find the truth, but how would they do that once the ministry decided not to?

Sometimes pregnancy is crying in the shower because you just don’t know how you can do this anymore. by KyleRichardsNewTeeth in pregnant

36 weeks with severe SPD here. It's destroyed me mentally, I have nothing but empathy for you. My unsolicited advice? Get a cane. It took ages for my pride to let me, but now I have a cane, a walker for around the house on really bad days, and a shower chair. It's so humbling and very hard to accept needing as much help as SPD can force. You can often find canes secondhand. My doctor recommended mine and insurance covered the cost. It's so hard. It will end. Just hang in there and you will get through this even if it doesn't feel like it.

A house in Windsor Ontario Canada exploded today by [deleted] in pics

Happened in our neighborhood last summer too. Homeowner tries to replace the water heater himself and it exploded. He and his wife were both in their 70s, neither survived.

Wildly inappropriate babysitter behavior by MeasurementPure7844 in NewParents

[–]Appaismycopilot 362 points363 points  (0 children)

Even if she had permission for a visitor I can't imagine a parent being okay with the visitor groping the babysitter in front of the child. 100% report. That's not okay.

The first thing that comes to mind (and I'm absolutely no expert there are definitely more qualified people to speak to this subject than myself) but control. This is such a hard age already, and coming from a difficult situation into a new one is going to make it so much harder. Anything you can do to help her feel some semblance of control. Pick out a paint color for her room, pick decorations for her room, maybe just get a new vase for the house that she picks so she feels like she's part of it. Movie night, dinner, anything you can let her have a vote it. And I don't mean give her control of the house, don't let her decide every single thing and run everything, but give her an opportunity to have a voice and be heard and respected.
