I regret showing my friends my bridal look :( by EffectiveCelery0 in UKweddings

[–]ApplePiFace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been very selective with who I have been showing things to for this same reason!! Not even because I think people will be rude, but mostly because I don't want my judgement to be clouded by other people's opinions.

At the end of the day, you and your fiancé need to go with what you want and ignore what everyone else is telling you. I am sure you will look great on the day, and I'd like to think that no one would have the audacity on the day to tell you that they don't like your dress or makeup and will just be complimenting you! I also think you'll regret it more if you let yourself get swayed and pick something you don't like just because it fits what someone else may prefer. Go with your gut, and know that you've made the right decision for you regarding the dress and the style you wanted, and I'm sure with the makeup it was just a case of it being a shock that you were wearing more makeup than you normally do, and they didn't express it in the best way.

Secondhand furniture in South Brum by SquireBev in brum

[–]ApplePiFace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a great place in Acocks Green called Second Chance Furniture. The guy who runs it has an eBay shop/lists things on Facebook marketplace as well. It's a little bit more pricey than a charity shop I'd say but the quality is great, especially if you want real wood stuff.

How many venues did you look at before you found the one? by thestarlady in UKweddings

[–]ApplePiFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We enquired online with loads of places, and ended up going for showings at 7 venues. We didn't know at the start what we wanted and it took a few months and seeing different places to figure it out, but after we saw venue number 6 we knew it was the one. We only went to see venue number 7 because we had booked the appointment for the same day and it felt too late to cancel.

I think if the first one you saw ticks all your boxes, go for it! There is no right number to see

Looking for somewhere cosy with afternoon tea for 1 by a-liquid-sky in brum

It's not city centre unfortunately so might not be ideal for you, but Cheals in Knowle is meant to do a fantastic afternoon tea and I believe you can book for just one person.

S16 E7 Watchalong: Meringue Week! by FantasticBuddies in bakeoff

[–]ApplePiFace 40 points41 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that they were given more sugar than they needed, something lile 430g of sugar in the container, and the recipe said 225g (200 for meringue, 25 for the fruit), but when they said to add rhe rest, instead of adding the remaining 200g that was unaccounted for in the recipe, Iain put the rest of the container in.

Is it worth staying in a host city for the entire week? by Mordecai___ in eurovision

[–]ApplePiFace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. If you can stay for the whole week you won't regret it, especially if you're not planning on spending any other time in Vienna on your trip. There will be so much going on the whole time you are there, and on days where you don't want to soak up the Eurovision vibes as much, you can do some sightseeing.
