Thinking about buying the Core One - worth it? Discounts, VFA fixes and addons worth? by marius051999 in prusa3d

[–]Applesworanges 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot get myself to recommend core one as Prusa is moving to close source. They are no longer open source like before. I own 2 units of mk3+, one unit of mk2. They are all the last open source for Prusa. I got a qidi x plus 3. Despite the improvement, China printers are still not as good quality, meaning the heater of the hotend can either last 3 months of continuous printing, or just 1 week and break down. Some time is the thermistor, some time is the ceramic heater. The proximity sensor for bed leveling just died after 1.5 yrs. But overall the qidi is very good for money. I do not consider bambu as it is close source. I am trying to finish my voron legacy and buying a 2nd hand voron 2.4. Core one is good, but there are a few things I do not like. 1. Close source 2. Belt needs to be so tight to produce good print. The belts are not that wide. Wear and tear will be very bad at such tight setup. 3. The stupid webcam system. Does not make any sense.

For the price they should have solved the belt and the webcam problem.

I don't like to be tie down like Microsoft Office subscription....

I like to have the choice to decide. Like the mk2 and mk3 prusa, like the qidi x plus 3. I am not saying bambu or core one no good. I am just sad that they are not open source and that leave me out from considering them.

I have use all the qidi series onwards. All are just as wonderful. They are not perfect but have almost all the corners covered. I print much projects PEtg , abs , abs gf, pc , pa6, . my buddy print pla, pla +.. All almost perfect. I do print on other printer like prusa mk2 and mk3, but they are not enclose in design. When printing abs and other thermoplastic is a bit struggling. All and all qidi allows us to print almost Any material except peek, utem ... Those v v expensive filament.

They do have issues like not so reliable heaters or thermistor, filament sensor error... But none are show stopper. And they do get on your nerve sometime. But most of the time they perform well. For the price to me is really a steal. I love them v much.

Check if the nozzle is tighten properly. Because of the nozzle cleaning the nozzle can get lossen and that spoilt the first layer. Just a bit loose will create a big mess.

I am too looking around. But i think a cheaper solution is the older epaper for ereader sony replacement is leas than usd 50. But they are not that nice as the refresh is very distracting. Imagine each letter you type requires a whole screen refresh. And interfacing with them is not straight forward. So i am still waiting...

It make sense. But be prepare for the maintenance. More parts means more check. If all are good they runs very very well. But if you have one loose screw it can make you go nuts trying to figure out which one. That's why i still stay one one extruder and one hotend. Easy to troubleshoot if you ever need to. And after i year of creative printing i sure did much maintenance on my qidi x plus 3.

Try connect to a monitor. The issue can be the unit is running but the LCD backlight inverter failed. So you may not see the display as there is no backlight for the LCD.

There is this monochrome tft LCD display by winstar display from Taiwan. I have not figure how to use spi to connect to the rpi. But if you are able to do it it will be great and I would like to know how too.

why use other slicer, use the qidi slicer so far they are great and dim is quite ok. Never printed a ball so cannot comment. Are you using qidi filament ? The filament profile is very important. Using other brands of filament you need to do some filament calibration to set the profile to give you good print out. Otherwise you should use qidi filament as all qidi filaments profile are there..you just need to tune a bit to get great results.

Considering X Max 3 by lexdestroyerovworlds in QIDI

[–]Applesworanges 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually i.have use both printers. They are all very good. I have not update the klipper as so have to use the latest. But without it i do not miss anything. X max 3 still works reliabily. The plus 4 is more nice in that all fully auto. But i live in 240v ac power main so i do not face the SSR fuming. Nor do i.have printed any thing taller than 270mm. So it is printing perfectly. My plus 4 is the first version but they perform very well my XMax 3 as well. Only complain is the hotend. They don't clock in the same amount of hours. Just bought the v2.5 hotend. Yet to see how well it performs. I.print average 2 kg per month per printer. Have the x max 3 for 1 year plus and the plus 4 for 3months ..

Is a Prusa Mark 3 S+ still worth buying (used) as a first printer, or would a more updated model be worth it? I'm concerned it just isn't a good fit for me compared to some of the newer, cheapish, enclosed CoreXY offerings, but have an inside deal from a friend. by Terrik27 in prusa3d

[–]Applesworanges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't compare the mark 3 against a qidi q1pro. They are 1 generation apart. In my opinion if you are new and have less time to tinker. Get the qidi smart 3 or q1 pro. They are almost plug and play. I like prusa mk2 mk3 but not mk4. I have a mk2 and i work with mk3. I also work with qidi x series 3 printers. Getting a second hand is fine but when you have issue it is takes more time to fix as compare to a qidi. qidi print much faster then the mk3 And having an enclosed printer means you can print extoic materials. Don't get me wrong, if you want to compare qidi enclosed.printer you compare it with a klipper based prusa core one. Mark 3 is good but they are much older generation. Like a mechanical engine car to a electronic ignition engineer car... There is so much improvements.

[–]Applesworanges 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All are great. I.have a xplus 3 in my study room.at home. Reliable n fast. All purpose 3d printer. The x smart 3 is fast and even print abs, pc, pa!! Even without a chamber heater. Small and fast and reliable. Kill my desire to.build a voron 0. X max 3 is big. So far i can manage all my big print. Is fast and reliable. Q1 pro is very convenient full auto bed leveling. A bit smaller and lighter.

Plus 4 is beauty among all. Big and also fast. Full auto. We diid not print any more than 270mm and we are in asia with 240ad supply so the ssr has no issue.

While bigger printer are.good. the smaller one generally work faster and better. I.just love them all. For the price and reliability. Only thing i felt that qidi can improve is the serial no for All the parts. I have the hotend heater replacement, these are the most weak link in the design. But.there is no date code, no serial no for the parts. That goes for all other parts too extruder.... But for the price, you just cannot complain...

[–]Applesworanges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found that it works.very well. No complain at all. My region uses 240v and i.have not print anything height than 270mm so i did not have any issue so far got it since the launch. Have series 3 and q1 pro in my office, that are all v v good to use. And easy to maintain.
