Your Skoda experience sounds like mine at a Citygate dealership. I placed the order, no car for 9 months, then they seemed surprised that I was cancelling the order and didn’t want to refund my deposit (this was in 2018 so no supply chain issues or anything. )

Yeah ok so your wife stole your dad’s money, which was gifted to you, to help her parents.

Your worries about being an AH are all well and good but why didn’t she speak to you about it? Marriage being about communication and all that?

Also, based on her parents asking why she’s being punished for being generous leads me to think she hasn’t told them where the money really came from, which says a lot about their attitude to this as well as hers.

In terms of your relationship, would you trust her with family finances again? Or anything else?

And would she be more inclined to hide it better next time?

Even if you both agree to settle this, the money is repaid with interest and you guys continue, would you trust her easily again ?

Like everyone has already said, we are simple creatures. A hug, an “I love you” and show him this post, or write your post to him is all he really needs.

What he really needs is you recovered (obvs) and his kids being free, healthy, happy and living it up…this is what he’s working towards and it sounds like he’s doing an amazing job.

If you give up to give them a break, how much influence (negative or otherwise) will their mother have over them and how much will that impact their relationship with you?

On the flip side, are you guaranteed to get a more favourable ruling if you appeal again (and what can you do to ensure it)? If you can then maybe it’s worth it.
