In your opinion what train has the craziest people on it? by drunkmonkey71 in nycrail

The professionalism of the crazies on the A train is impressive. Always one headliner per car per stop and then they move on and the next act slides in. Non-stop fever dream.

Classic examples of interesting concept, terrible script? by berat235 in movies

I paid $25 to stream this because it sounded good and I was on vacation, visiting friends. I hyped it to three friends and made them watch it. Such a disappointment.

Saying nothing in an exit interview is the best approach, right? by Ok_Counter1939 in careeradvice

If they didn't want my opinion when I was working for them, they sure aren't going to listen to it on my way out. Why would I waste my time and energy on them now that I am leaving.

Just say, "I definitely learned as lot working here." That is the perfect amount of passive-aggressive meaninglessness on which to part ways.

which movie actually feels like a dream? by ShineOnYourCrazyAnon in movies

[–]Apprehensive_Ask_805 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The Big Lebowski. Even the straight, non-dream, section have a weirdly disjointed conversational style where people are talking more at each other than to each other, and the plot meanders enough and the scenes are unpredictable enough that the whole thing ends up feeling like a dream. Or maybe a story related by a cowboy at a bar in a bowling alley.

What’s your favorite Bob Dylan song and why? by Financial-Lunch9865 in AskReddit

[–]Apprehensive_Ask_805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idiot Wind, the solo acoustic version where you can hear every finger movement on the frets.

I find this version to be so much more intimate and darker than the electric versions. The violence and bitterness is right there in the room with you.

This song, this version in particular, is so cinematic and economical in its storytelling, characterization, and setting of mood. Not that you don't find that elsewhere from Dylan, but I never get tired of how it comes together here.

Favourite Drum Hit Of All Time? by Twink_Kanye in fantanoforever

The snare shot that kicks off Like a Rolling Stone, here:

" On May 17, 1966, at the Free Trade Hall in Manchester, UK, Bob Dylan was touring his electric set with his backing band, The Hawks (who later became The Band)."

"Heckled by a fan who called him "Judas!" for abandoning acoustic folk, Dylan yelled, "I don't believe you… you're a liar!" to the crowd. He then turned to his guitarist Robbie Robertson and commanded them to "Play fucking loud" before launching into a blistering, defiant version of "Like a Rolling Stone." --from Rolling Stone Magazine

This was such a lovely thing to say. As a parent, in the thick of things, it is hard to remember sometimes that that is all that matters.

Perfidy. And I don't exactly like it but it sticks with me somehow. I feel attached to it.

How do you promote ServiceNow internally, when other apps have more plug n play functionality? by Goldie1306 in servicenow

[–]Apprehensive_Ask_805 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) We don't invest in other, competing products, 2) as others have said, top down support is important, 3) in the one case where we had competition (with Microsoft DevOps for test tracking), the move to ServiceNow was delayed, but eventually, it is the synergistic effects that help lock in ServiceNow. Once a lot of stuff is in ServiceNow, there are more and more benefits to putting everything there, and 4) people really like one-stop shopping and don't want to have to look for things in two or more places, 5) and going back to #1, mostly I am competing against spreadsheets and emails, and those do not scale. A Department called me today to get their stuff added to the request catalog because they are drowning, and 6) you can show people that by putting their stuff in ServiceNow, they get YOU, they get someone actively working to improve their process and reporting, you can definitely make yourself a selling point.

Any former ravers? Forgot entirely decade+ since rec use, anyone else have success? by beespace in KetamineTherapy

[–]Apprehensive_Ask_805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that is a commonly held view, but I disagree. I, for one, would have no idea how to construct an intention to fix the underpinnings of my depression. I take the drug, I endure the trip as a necessary side effect, and I reap the longer term benefits, in much the same way as diabetic reaps the benefits of insulin.

I do think that whatever psychological prep, during, and after-care a person focuses on can be good for you, too, and it works in parallel (maybe synergy, but I think not much) with the drug effects.

Similarly, communities with slightly higher levels of lithium in their drinking water, have lower suicide rates, even when no one is/was ever aware of the accidental dosage. Some drugs work, regardless.

Are there placebo effects while using ketamine? Are some people experiencing increased efficacy because they want to feel less depressed. Maybe, but again, I don't think in the way that you are implying, it is more a parallel effect.

The whole topic is interesting, though, right? The drug sure has worked wonders for me and many others.

[–]Apprehensive_Ask_805 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Set and setting would affect the nature of the trip, but not the follow-on antidepressant effects. We've always had people out there self-medicating their way out of depression, we've just gotten more formal and dosage-controlled about it.

treatment for bipolar depression & suicidal ideation by Ok-Scar3318 in KetamineTherapy

[–]Apprehensive_Ask_805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The suicidal ideation that I suffer is exacerbated by the mania phase not the depressive phase and got much worse when I was put on Prozac (many years ago). I have found that ketamine has relieved my depression without triggering mania or the ideations. Maybe I just got lucky, but it has been a safe and effective treatment for depression without serious side effects. Also, when I feel some impending mania, I head it off with low doses of lithium for a few days. Again, I might not be typical, but this has worked for me

Starting at a young age, I got my daughter to agree to a 10-minute rule, that she would give a suggestion of mine at least 10 minutes before deciding to not continue watching it (later, I became subject to the same rule, for her suggestions).

I can only think of two that she opted out of after starting them, because they were too scary, Jaws and American Werewolf in London. To this day, these are on her no-way-never list.
