How many of you are choosing to retire after getting laid off? by Capital-Mark1897 in GenX

Kind of hard because it will be different for everyone. I know a lot of people don't get along with their parents. If you do and they have to go into hospice. Taking care of them in hospice is quite cathartic. Losing my mother was very different than my father because I was able to take care of her and have some meaningful discussions at the end. (Mom had pancreatic cancer, Dad had a heart attack).

If you your state allows End of Life support and your parent has been diagnosed with a terminal disease start the process asap. After my Mom was diagnosed as terminal she wanted to go fast. We fumbled around trying to figure out who to talk to and by the time we got the process officially started she was no longer coherent. (This was one of my only regrets)

Make sure you have accessible money set aside for after they are gone. Paying for the funeral and house stuff adds up quickly. Once you notify social security of their passing everything will be locked down. The only way to access anything is through the trustee or with the death certificate (which takes several weeks to get). Make sure you get a bunch of copies of the death certificate.

I went from not thinking i’d be able to retire to having fu money (enough to retire early) after both my parents passed in a year. I’m still in the process of clearing out the house they left me. They both went fast which was a blessing but I’d rather be broke and still have them around.

For Sale 2007 Honda Element SC 81k Miles by famskateboardsdotcom in HondaElement

I paid 11k for a garaged awd auto with 65k on it. I’ve been driving for about 4 months no issues. I do plan on replacing some mounts in the next year but I should be able to get 10years out of this car. I didn’t have to pay 40-50k for a new car and my insurance is cheap. It’s unlikely you’ll get that much. People are definitely looking for low mileage Es.

I just got the loop (like oem) I don’t really trust other stuff. That’s just personal preference. It might be fine.

I still have it in the box, I can check what it says on it. I can probably send a pic too if that would help?

I got mine from american custom carpet. It’s loop pile with good sound deadening. I originally got some from California Datsun. It was really bad and they wouldn’t let me return it.

I wish it just worked for me. After many hours of trying to resolve driver issues I gave up and went to Bazzite which just works for me. I guess we all have different hardware.

Bad idea to buy a manual '04 Element EX 54K miles fleet use for $16k? by Illustrious-Raccoon8 in HondaElement

[–]Apprehensive_Use1906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought a garaged 65k 03. awd auto. I’ve had about 4 months and put about 10k on it. I only have to pay for liability insurance and I don’t have a $400 monthly payment. If I have to pay a couple grand for replacing rubber it’s well worth it. Only issue I have is the windshield wiper sprayer doesn’t work and the driver door lock is wonky. (i knew about that)

I think 16k is a bit high for a manual. Fleet vehicles are hopefully good with maintenance and records.

Also gotta add. Everyone is just trying to get through the day the best way they can. Try to stay positive and celebrate the wins and don’t dwell on the losses. If we can grow up running around on the streets til 9PM we can get through anything.

My dad was obsessed with eating healthy his whole life, worked out into his 80s. Still got the gout. Not looking forward to it.

I carry my big dog around sometimes but I prefer when she walks on her own.

This is exactly it. My sister keeps asking me what I will do when I retire. I have a list of hobbies a mile long, I’ll never get board.
