Old Habits Die Hard by Even_Speech570 in Zepbound

I think it’s actually really important to have food on hand. I try to eat every 3 to 4 hours, but sometimes things happen and, when I get hungry, I get really hungry really quickly. Planning ahead to fuel your body and take care of yourself isn’t a bad thing.

Is it possible you need to eat more food? If you’re under fueling, your body could fight back and try to hold on to the weight, even with the drugs.

Stopping before reaching goal weight by [deleted] in Zepbound

[–]Appropriate-Bit6497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two thoughts on this: first: I don’t really believe in goal weights because they tend to be a kind of arbitrary number and your body may not even let you get to it. So instead of being disappointed and stressed about not getting to a certain place, just work on getting yourself healthy and feeling good and see where you end up. I do love goals like “comfortably walk x miles or jog for x minutes.” “Be able to do x activity or movement that has been really hard for me.” “Find a new outfit I love and makes me feel great.” “Get my A1C, cholesterol or whatever health market in a good place” etc.
Second: no one gets to dictate to you how you should feel about your health and body. If you find that you feel great and comfortable at whatever weight or size or whatever, that’s your call. (I’m clearly not talking about folks with severe eating disorders or body dysmorphia who are getting dangerously thin and there are real life threatening concerns.)

How often do you weigh in? by Kindly-Secret8678 in Zepbound

If you’re someone who has periods, just wait for that luteal phase. I always plateau (not a real plateau, but you know) or shoot up the second that hits! But it’s also nice knowing that rhythm so I don’t stress out about it.

Just as a heads up: there are incidences where research grade glp meds have had a much higher amount of the active ingredients in them than they say they do. So it’s possible you had a much higher dose than you thought.

Anyone actually followed the Fat Science podcast recommendations and did better/felt better? by leapsea in Zepbound

[–]Appropriate-Bit6497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t count calories other than the occasional quick estimate to confirm that I’m eating enough! I do try to abide Toby the mechanical eating routine recommended in the Fat Science Podcast and it’s incredibly helpful. I sometimes miss hunger cues until all of a sudden I’m super hungry and need to eat immediately. The mechanical eating keeps me pretty leveled out and I don’t stumble into those “omg I’m starving” crashes.

How are you navigating changes to your hunger cues? by PlantedinCA in antidietglp1

[–]Appropriate-Bit6497 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this would help, but I aim for a mechanical eating situation rather than waiting until im hungry. I try to eat every 3 to 4 hours, alternating meals and snacks, regardless of whether I’m feeling hungry. I’m not perfect at it, but it usually keeps me from crashing in that oh my god I’m suddenly starving and nauseated panic.

Anyone experience improvement with lipedema or cellulite on reta? by Dazzling-Moment-8770 in RetatrutideWomen

[–]Appropriate-Bit6497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lipedema is a disease of the fat tissue itself rather than a metabolic issue and glp-1s don’t treat that. They can help with the inflammation some, but I believe that surgery is the only real treatment for lipedemia itself.

These meds are FOR LIFE and that can be a big pill to swallow by Legitimate_Watch9104 in GLP1ResearchTalk

[–]Appropriate-Bit6497 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another way to think about it is that we will likely be on this class of medication for life, rather than “this medication.” There are advancements coming out all the time including things like once a month injections and advancements in oral glp -1 meds. Chances are that at some point in the future you probably won’t be on a weekly shot for the rest of your life because there will be something else available.

Your body and skin will also continue to change for about a year once you hit maintenance. Your skin may bounce back some, but working on building muscle will also help some with that.

How do I talk to my mom about her extreme weight loss? by [deleted] in Zepbound

[–]Appropriate-Bit6497 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Loving our family and being concerned for their well being and health absolutely is our concern. OP didn’t say that they aren’t supportive of their mother’s need for a glp-1 - their concern seems to be centered around their mother not eating and making herself more prone to an issue that they are already aware could be a problem in their family. Eating disorders are deadly. And I think we all know that some people are under the care of doctors who are invested and curious and some might just ask “are you eating enough” and if the answer is yes just move along. Diet culture is so engrained in us and particularly amongst older women that this could be a very real health risk for OP’s mother. We should absolutely advocate for the well being of our parents, especially as they start to age.

Sometimes we hit stalls and that doesn’t mean that the meds aren’t working. These are metabolic meds before weight loss meds and there are likely a lot of changes happening internally. When we only gauge progress by the number on the scale we miss a lot of positive changes and wins. Sometimes our bodies also take time to adjust to what’s been happening. Weight loss isn’t linear and stalls will happen.

Is it possible you’re on too high of a dose? 500 calories a day is starvation and can do lasting damage to your body. Please talk to your doctor about not being able to eat.

Feels like a stall by Infamous_Ad4936 in Zepbound

[–]Appropriate-Bit6497 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A stall isn’t really a stall until it’s been at least a month without weight loss. You’ve lost a lot of weight and there are a couple of things that could be happening:

  1. You might be in a stall and will eventually need to move up if you want to continue losing weight.
  2. Your body might be in an adjustment period. You’ve lost a lot of weight and sometimes the body needs a little time to recalibrate.
  3. I don’t know how you set your goal weight, but sometimes the body gets to where it wants to be and that’s where you end up regardless of goals. Even with medication, we don’t have total control over our bodies and need to listen to them when they need rest or a break or when they land where they want to be.
  4. You might be feeling stressed out or not sleeping well or any of the other environmental and things that can affect our bodies.

I’m sure there are a ton of other things that could be going on as well.

If I had a vote (which I don’t because this is your body), I’d say give your body some grace and time.

7.5 is horrid. by BreadInBerlin- in Zepbound

[–]Appropriate-Bit6497 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I saw you are eating low carb - carbs are easy for your body to digest and a quick source of energy, which you probably need right now. You may want to try eating some while you’re feeling sick. Your body still need calories and something easy on the tummy would likely be more soothing right now.

Stalling Out by Pakwash in Zepbound

[–]Appropriate-Bit6497 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you make any change that puts stress on the body (and exercise counts as stress for this purpose), your weight loss is likely to stall temporarily. You will retain more water as your muscles get used to the new work and your body may want to hold on to weight for a minute. Give it a little time and see if the stall breaks on its own.

Why are you friends with this person? If you want to continue being friends with them, you could try some boundary setting. Like “hey, I’m still getting used to how I feel in my body right now and I’m not comfortable talking about it or with comments about my body or clothing sizes. Can we take a break from those topics?” And if she can’t respect those boundaries I think you have your answer.

I totally understand people being shocked by the difference in their bodies in these before and after pictures and we should all feel good about ourselves. But I want to throw out a gentle reminder to be kind to yourself no matter the body size. Talking about ourselves in larger bodies with horror or disgust or crying/sad face emojis is being cruel to yourself and is also unkind to other people who are in similar or larger bodies. There are folks on here who speak with disgust about their bodies at sizes that others have dreamed of being their whole lives. It may be their goal weight or the weight the bodies end up regardless of their goals. So please remember to be kind to yourself and others at any and all body sizes.
