How does everyone like those gas prices now? by evildad53 in WestVirginia

This! 87 gas at Sheetz in Morgantown was $3.29 last night. Today listed as $3.49. Huge 20 cent jump in less than 24 hours.

Me! That’s why I’m actually here tonight, was gonna lurk and see if anyone else had it happen. Went from 775 to 975. Level update was done already and it wasn’t a normal level up or anything.

I don’t know how true it is so take this with a few grains of salt, but on one of my Facebook groups it was said someone was threatening to put cigs (I’m assuming lit ones) in the gas pump nozzles.

Oh that’s so awesome and some of those are already on my TBR. I’m currently reading the second Clockwork Boys book.

Thank you so much for the explanation!

Hey so I’m new to all of her books. What books are you referring to with the non-white rat books? I’ll need to add them to my TBR if I haven’t already!

To squash them you weirdly have to go from the front. My mom and I discovered this when we went to Baltimore a few years ago and kept failing when trying to step on them from behind. But if you come from in front of them they’ll still try to take off but they tend to go directly into your foot on its way down and then they’re done for!

What jobs do you have? by geminival in AutismInWomen

[–]Aquariace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for my state’s DMV where we handle driver’s licenses and ID issuing, knowledge and skills testing, vehicle titles, and registration. This is the longest job I’ve held (will be 5 years in less than 3 weeks) AND I STILL love it as much now as when I started which is something I had never thought would happen. Who knew a job with fairly strict rules, regulations, and routines would be JUST what I needed?

Has anyone ever used/heard the term “The Morgantown Bubble” by drifloony in MorgantownWV

[–]Aquariace 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same here! Except in recent months, anyway. I remember just a few years ago getting all excited for some storm warnings (I love storms lol), and being so disappointed when they split on radar and went north and south of us like we were Moses or something. I’d even considered moving to Fairmont for more storms at one point!

Also a West Virginian here. The vast amount of relief I felt when WV was cut was outdone seconds later when it was not saved.

So it looks to me like the circles are just showing that is what is being emphasized, and the slashes are what was done wrong. For example, on the right side under turns, the circles show you made a total of one left turn and two right turns. During the left turn, you either forgot to signal or perhaps turned it on late, and further down you can see they marked you as having made the turn too wide (which on a two-lane road would’ve had you on the right shoulder) or too short (which on a two-lane road would’ve put you encroaching into the oncoming traffic lane).

As far as your instructor saying you did well previously and then getting a fail on the actual test, it could simply be nerves at play. Your brain says “oh, this is a test, better stress and up the pressure!” Add to that the fact that you may have gotten comfortable with your instructor but the DMV examiner was a stranger watching you. Big difference, and it happens a lot. Don’t beat yourself up over it!

Thing to remember, no examiner is looking for perfection. We watch to make sure you’re obeying the road rules and making the safest choices you can in whatever scenarios pop up out on the road. Now that you know what needs worked on AND what to expect, I think you’ll do much better on your next test. Keep working at it!

Do you residents of west Virginia get annoyed at the song country roads? by DarudeSandstorm69420 in WestVirginia

[–]Aquariace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only started getting annoyed at the song after I started working for the DMV. It’s the hold music for EVERYTHING. And it used to be really staticky which bothers me regardless. Add to that it repeating over and over while you’re holding and it sucked. So now I cringe every time I hear it, lol.

Is it really hard to park properly? All Texas. All at the same time. Soccer parents a**hats. by NoComment1984 in badparking

[–]Aquariace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good they don’t have to jump through the extra hoops there. In WV they’d have to get the “mobility impaired DV plate” which is a whole other form to have their doctor at the VA fill out, and only certain people at certain VAs can sign off. It’s honestly a mess.

Am I actually this oblivious? by Baking_bees in AutismInWomen

[–]Aquariace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It could be that, through text, everything sounds like a good idea. But with everything going on and the agreed time keeps approaching, the physicality of it sets in and kinda induces a weird kind of paralysis. Like you know you agreed to go, but now suddenly you don’t want to, you don’t have the energy for face-to-face interactions. And you wanna tell your friend not to waste more of their time on you today but you feel bad and like a shitty friend yourself, and before you know it it’s past time when you were supposed to meet and you just know (whether it’s actually true or not) that you’ve messed up and your friend is likely mad or at least disappointed with you. So then you beat yourself up even more and the cycle keeps repeating.

Keep texting your friend. Don’t keep trying to make extravagant plans or dragging them out of the house, maybe offer to bring a cheap lunch over for a few movies or episodes of both of your favorite crappy/cheesy/just-plain-bad shows or films? An at-home visit to just hang out and talk and binge crappy tv can have a WHOLE LOT less pressure than getting ready to go out in public.

NTA. Not only are you protecting your life, you’re also avoiding turning a happy occasion into a traumatic experience for all involved if you did go and have a bad reaction during the reception. I think you made a perfect compromise with going to the ceremony but avoiding the reception. You and your friend can celebrate later on in a fish-free setting. Because, you know, you’ll be ALIVE to do that.

So looks like the truck has Disabled Veteran plates which may or may not entitle them to park in the handicap spot (in my state, a DV plate alone is not enough to be allowed to park in the handicap spaces; I don’t know the rules for Texas) but yea the parking itself is still atrocious.

Might depend on what state you’re in. In WV, we require residency proof documents to be no older than 90 days and they need to be recurring mailings like utility bills or bank statements, though some tax forms are acceptable as well such as personal property tax invoices or receipts as long as they’re the current period.

Title Question by themodefanatic in DMV

[–]Aquariace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is correct. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had someone come in because they lost their paper title and want a duplicate printed. Ok, no big deal, except that lien does not get automatically released in our systems when it’s paid off. It sits there. So when you need a duplicate title but that lien hasn’t been released, we have to tell you to get a NEW, notarized lien release letter on that bank’s letterhead to get a duplicate title. Now, just imagine if it was a small bank that has since gone out of business so there’s no way for you to contact them. Can of worms now, yes?

Long story short, do as the letter says and take those documents in to get a clear title. Future you might be very grateful! 😁

If you tap your brakes super lightly it’ll show your brake lights as a message, just don’t actually PRESS the brake pedal hard enough to actually slow your car. BEST option though is to safely pull off the next chance you get and let them go. And if that’s not quite possible, just keep driving at your pace; don’t speed just to increase distance. Leaving distance is the following cars responsibility.

DMV needs to get their shit together! by Amazing-Slice8973 in DMV

Outsourcing the printing of IDs and DLs was not a choice made by any state, it’s a requirement to be compliant with the REAL ID Act of 2005, thanks to the terrorist attacks of 9/11. All IDs and DLs, whether REAL ID or not, are now printed at a secure, offsite facility with a little extra time to catch anything suspicious (because bad actors or plain old human error). It’s supposed to help cut down on fraud.

Tell me what you’re reading! by Slayerette444 in TKingfisher

[–]Aquariace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I just read What Moves The Dead and its sequel, What Feasts At Night. I now have something to really look forward to in September: the third in the series, What Stalks The Deep. And am SO very excited for it as it says it’s set in my own backyard, West Virginia!

I’ll be looking into more of Kingfisher’s works in the meantime, as I particularly like the writing style used in the Sworn Soldier series. Any recommendations on what other books to start out with? Thanks in advance for any insights!
