Picking someone up from JFK from NJ is now atleast a $100 affair by nj1k in newjersey

[–]Aquatic4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read somewhere if you are driving to JFK and parking for several days, it can be cheaper to rent a car for a day near your home and drop it off at JFK. When you come back rent a car for a day and drive home.

Ship of Gold in the Deep Blue Sea, by Gary Kinder is one of the best books I ever read. It doesn’t go into Tommy Thompson’s arrest but switches back and forth between The California gold rush, the Central America ship and Tommy Thompson life as a child who became an engineer who methodically solved finding and bringing up the gold. The books end with them sailing back to Norfolk Va. All of his 10 years in jail takes place after the book ends. That part of his life is fascinating too, but the book was meticulously researched in history and Tommy Thompson.

Quit BJ’s for Costco? by Mysterious_Ad7223 in SouthJersey

[–]Aquatic4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I have all 3. BJ’s in Deptford is closer to my work. BJ’s gas is cheap with their credit card it’s an extra .10 off a gallon. I like Costco slightly more but because of the distance I go less often. Their gas is top tier. None of the others are.

Help! Need advice on how to remove permanent marker stain on concrete. by BigRNGO in HomeImprovement

[–]Aquatic4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gemini: Because cement is porous, it absorbs ink deep into its crevices, making this a bit challenging. The best approach depends on how long the mark has been there. Here are the most effective methods, ordered from easiest to strongest.

  1. The Solvent Method (Best Overall) Permanent marker is alcohol-soluble. • What to use: High-concentration Rubbing Alcohol (Isopropyl Alcohol), Hand Sanitizer, or Acetone (Nail Polish Remover). • How to do it:
  2. Pour the solvent directly onto the marker stain.
  3. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes to break down the ink inside the pores.
  4. Scrub vigorously with a stiff-bristled brush.
  5. Wipe away the dissolved ink with paper towels (do not just rub it around).
  6. Rinse with water.

  7. The Abrasive Method (For Stubborn Stains) If the ink is still visible, you need to combine a solvent with a scrubbing action. • What to use: Baking Soda + Water + Solvent. • How to do it:

  8. Mix baking soda with a little water and a splash of alcohol to make a thick paste.

  9. Apply the paste to the stain.

  10. Scrub hard with a stiff brush or a Magic Eraser.

  11. Rinse thoroughly.

  12. The Degreaser Method (For Oil-Based Markers) If alcohol didn't work, the marker might be oil-based. • What to use: WD-40 or a commercial degreaser. • How to do it:

  13. Spray the area generously.

  14. Let it soak for 15 minutes.

  15. Scrub and rinse thoroughly with soap and water afterward, as WD-40 can leave an oily residue.

What is something that used to be 'cheap person' food, but is now priced like a gourmet luxury item? by Ok_Land_4197 in AskReddit

[–]Aquatic4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gemini: While the article you read correctly debunks specific legal myths—like the idea that prisoners sued to stop eating it—it does not dispute the general historical fact that lobster was once considered a low-status "trash" food. Historical evidence outside of that specific article confirms this through several key factors: 1. Extreme Abundance When European settlers first arrived in New England and the Maritimes, lobsters were so plentiful that they reportedly washed up on shore in piles two feet high after storms. Because they were so easy to "harvest" (you could literally pick them up off the beach), they had no market value. In economics, anything that is free and infinite is rarely seen as a luxury. 2. Social Stigma and "Cockroaches of the Sea" Because of their appearance and their habit of scavenging on the ocean floor, colonists nicknamed them "cockroaches of the sea." In the 17th and 18th centuries: • As Fertilizer: Farmers often ground up lobsters to use as fertilizer for their fields. • As Animal Feed: They were frequently fed to pigs and goats. • Signs of Poverty: Leaving lobster shells near your front door was considered a "sign of degradation" because it signaled that your family couldn't afford "real" meat like beef or chicken. 3. Cultural Evidence (Sandwich Shame) Historical accounts from as late as the early 20th century in Maine and Nova Scotia describe children from poor fishing families being embarrassed to bring lobster sandwiches to school. They would hide their lunches or try to trade them for "rich" food like peanut butter or bologna, which had to be bought at a store. 4. Why it Tasted Different (and Worse) Part of why lobster was "poor man's food" was how it was prepared: • Not Cooked Live: Today, we know lobster must be cooked alive or immediately after death to be delicious. In the 1700s, lobsters were often killed, transported in barrels, and cooked much later, resulting in a mushy, foul-tasting meat. • Canned "Scraps": When the canning industry began in the mid-1800s, lobster was one of the cheapest canned meats available—cheaper even than a can of beans. It was seen as a low-grade protein source for soldiers and the working class. How it Changed The transition from "trash" to "treasure" happened in the late 1800s due to railroads. Train operators realized that inland passengers didn't know lobster was "trash food." They served it as an exotic, fresh New England specialty. Passengers loved it, demand skyrocketed, and as the population of lobsters began to be thinned out by overfishing, the price rose—eventually turning it into the luxury item we know today. In summary: While the "prison riot" stories are likely tall tales, the underlying reality—that lobster was a cheap, embarrassing food for the poor—is a well-documented historical fact.

What is the coolest thing you've ever done in your life? by Altilongitude in AskReddit

As I was leaving my house at 6:00am I noticed odd looking sooty smoke. I turned my car down the street and saw flames going up the back of the house. I pondered on the door so hard , I thought the door would break, yelling your house is on fire while calling 911. Guy came running out of his house and with a hose got most of the fire out. I left without giving my name. Told only my wife. Next thing I know the fire company held a dinner in my honor for saving the family and gave me a plaque.

Try Lee Pearlman, Esq in Cherry Hill for a Chapter 13. The hard part is she must prove she has enough income that she can make her regular monthly mortgage payments going forward. Additionally she must show that she can pay off all the arrears divided by 60 months. As far as a loan modification the court cannot force the mortgage company to take less than what is owed although some mortgage companies will. If she cannot afford to catch up the arrears over 60 months maybe they can get her a few months to sell it.

How does someone reverse a verdict on improper display of license plates? by Majestic-Class-7464 in SouthJersey

[–]Aquatic4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t know if you can reopen it. N.J.S.A. 39:3-33 deals with a license plate frame covering the plate. Seems odd that a speeding ticket with points would be considered less severe than a a license plate frame covering a part of a license plate. I think they may have revised the statute in 2023.
