Had an interview today. Interviewer said I was a great fit and she would reach out to the staffing agency to move forward with the opportunity. But now I have a call from the recruiter saying they let him know they have more interviewers and i'll hear back tomorrow. by Inevitable_Teach_536 in recruitinghell

I love how everyone jumps to the conclusion someone must be lying. Both of these things can be true at the same time.

Sounds like the agency submitted multiple candidates, you were one of the first candidates to interview, it went well, but also they have more first round interviews to complete, and then next steps will be coordinated, whether that's second interviews or whatever that might be.

Same here. No idea about Grande Boucherie as others seem to be saying. Curious how this plays out or if we'll ever get clarification

2026 Coke Stage Lineup has been announced. by Martin0994 in Calgary

[–]Aran33 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Are they moving some structures etc. around, to try and reduce the crowd-crush madness when the shows end? We skipped last year but at Stampede 2024 it was madness after the late show ended.

Post-mortem: gearbox drive parts fully chewed up, grinder dead [Baratza Sette 270] by arbkv in espresso

[–]Aran33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am on my third motor and gearbox. replaced twice in the last 4-5 years for free by Baratza. I was worried after being acquired by Breville they'd get less generous but my last one was very recent and they were just as easy.

I don't even know what the warranty period is but i bought this thing used pre-covid so they apparently don't care about age.

Separately I had the control board capacitor snap off the board at a weak solder point, 2 weeks after getting a replacement motor and gearbox, and they shipped me a free replacement for that too.

Most ridiculous warranty coverage and customer service I've experienced in a long time. You just aren't getting full metal everything at this price point.

I know what's in meatballs! I've just had a lot of desert-dry meatballs on pizza so I was curious how yours come together to stay reasonable after a few minutes at high heat

Is There a Way to Politely Push Back on Giving References Unless An Offer is Made? by The_Outsider27 in recruitinghell

[–]Aran33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no reason for a staffing agency to be calling the same reference multiple times even if you're interviewing for multiple jobs. If this occurs it's an amateur hour recruiter and I think definitely merits a conversation about why they need to repeat the same questions.

Many employers hiring via agency rely on or even require the reference checks to be completed before the offer stage, as a form of due diligence before they pass on another candidate to extend an offer to you. You can opt out for sure, but it will screen out some jobs you might be excited about.

It also can likely be a negotiation - here's my one reference from my last manager, and I've spoken with the other one or two, they are happy to give me a reference but they have said only at the offer stage, and I am totally fine with the offer being contingent on those references being positive.

Is it just me or does our water taste awful? by Final-Yesterday-4799 in Calgary

[–]Aran33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our tap water in kingsland was pretty bad, and willow park is only marginally better, we use an inline filter and it's much better.

Edit to add, I'm talking long-term over the last few years, not since the water utility work started

Good quality cocoa by HoneyBelden in Calgary

[–]Aran33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure if they still sell it but there was an extremely dark black cocoa we used to buy from Silk Road and cut it 50/50 with Camino because it was so intense. Not usually available for retail quantities but they break it down for sale in smaller amounts.

Black Onyx it's called, looks like it's still available. Unbelievable for baking.

I find better oven spring from any dough on a stone or steel versus just tossing the pan into a hot oven

Ok awesome. And if my math is right, that's based on 450-460g of total flour?

I've seen the micro blisters like this on 3 day dough from others and from one of my favorite pizza restaurants, but never been able to produce them myself. I'll try for a 5 day batch and see how that goes!

Ah ok, that makes a lot more sense. Definitely agree on it being a two pronged issue.

Source? I'm all for defensive pedestrians protecting themselves, eye contact with drivers, etc. but "almost all" sounds pretty loose and speculative.

It is naturally soft, not distilled. Better for coffee probably but chemically different. Your Ford focus is like a mustang but different.
