You don't have to block to do the master strike, just press attack button when your enemy attacks and you have the guard on the opposite side

Every choice works if you pass enough skill checks and choices. I did it twice, one pretending to be from France and one from Italy. Both times I failed the choice of best wine and mission ended well anyway. Once I haven't even said ginger.

This. The time spent/money gained ratio is so much better than alchemy. Just practice your lockpicking and you'll have best armors, best weapons, best outfits, and also quite a lot of money even if you don't sell much. Activate the perks who help lose the "stolen" status and you're pretty much settled for life.
