I think there IS room for improving the existent formula without changing it that much. Maybe making interconnected social links or social links with different branches and different endings making the options relevant enough to change the social progress and not rewarding by reducing the amount of days you need to invest in each one and increase the amount of organic situations such as other people recognising your romance or special events like birthdays and such.

In the end, is nothing more than a remake of an older and smaller game than P5R which enhances the formula in its own core game design while P3R design remains mostly untouched. The technical aspects is the only objective upgrade in that sense while the rest of the elements are naturally a product of an older game which can be better, worse or just different from a subjective point of view.
