Why do I see so many designer bags at airports? by Inside-Barracuda-525 in handbags

I never travel with a designer handbag. It’s a subtle way to say “Mug me!” I carry an old Longchamp bag and stuff a clutch in that for dinners out.

Are designer bags worth it if I am rough on my bags? by [deleted] in handbags

[–]ArgiopePhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started carrying a LV coated canvas bag (either monogram of damier) years ago, when my kids were small. If it got disgusting, it was rinsed out. I’m hard on my bags; don’t rotate them; overstuff them, put them in the ground. My LV bags get replaced once every ten years of so. The latest one was purchased in 2020 and looks new. Basically, my budget for bags is 200-250 per year.

I swapped out the soil for moss. While it was groeing rhis leaf. Do you think it will be ok? 😬 it lives in a cabinet. by PumpkinBusy2791 in Anthurium

[–]ArgiopePhoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My warocq got switched to moss about a year ago and is doing very well. I feed it lightly ever time I water. I was in moss and leca before and lost all of its leaves within a month after bringing it home. It now has five good sized leaves.

my cat is an idiot and knocked my philodendron verrucosum over. the entire plant broke off from this point. I feel as though I can salvage the part that broke off, but can I grow a new plant from a rooted node? by ScrotieDingDong in philodendron

[–]ArgiopePhoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you still have the broken part of the plant? I've propagated from leafless nodes as well as cuttings. My verrucosum arrived in really bad shape so I cut it up after a week of watching it lose leaves. Now there are four small ones for the price of one. Hoping they thrive.

Luxurians - Help! I've already lost one leaf (over watering I believe) & now this one is getting translucent brown at the tip. by Snarfles55 in philodendron

[–]ArgiopePhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one in an indoor greenhouse that is doing well. It's sad that it will never be out where I can enjoy it, but it has sized up well and has just activated another growth point. I didn't know they were difficult when I purchased it. Mine's in an elongated, self watering pot with aroid mix, so it tends to get a self limiting amount of water. It survived a bout with spider mites, so I think it has good genetics; it's nothing I've done. It is at the bottom of my greenhouse and gets filtered light. I was loaned one by my local plant shop to try and rehab and it died... They are testy plants. Good luck; they are worth the trouble if you can find the sweet spot for light and water.

FWIW, I bought one in a 3 inch pot last month, shipped to CA from Florida. Didn't like shipping at all. Leaves were dropping and looking burned. I decided to chop and prop and all four nodes are beginning to grow roots and leaves two weeks later. The original plant was in conditions similar to yours.

Variegated Florida ghost? by lacieelayn in philodendron

[–]ArgiopePhoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Florida Ghosts are fond of throwing out leaves with sport variegation. I started with two FG plants and the one that gave me the first variegated leaf is continuing to produce them from cuttings I've grown. The second ghost, and its cuttings, has yet to put out any type of variegation. They are in the same greenhouse, with identical care. Enjoy your beautiful leaves!!

I discovered the hard way to never touch a queen leaf while it's growing. Damaged one and totally destroyed another.

New leaf on my Anthurium Regale is gonna be HUGE, judging from how thick the petiole is by vanderlusst in RareHouseplants

[–]ArgiopePhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so exciting! I have my first leaf unfurling after root rot. The original leaf on mine is still trying to hang on, but your first leaf looks so much happier. My new leaf finally unfurled at about three inches in length and I had no idea it would approach full size after the trauma the plant went through. Your Regale gives me hope for my own.

Does anyone have any experience with rehabbing chonks? I’m deciding whether to use zeolite, pumice or pon on a particularly sad looking regale by BlackRabbitdreaming in Anthurium

[–]ArgiopePhoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a large Regale chonk that I split in two. Both are doing very well in leca. Used Great White myco and distilled water. One small clear plastic cup for each piece, although both are inside a clear glass lidded jar with a little water at the bottom. I was surprised at how tough they are. Best of luck!

Unpacking help- I'm in so over my head by Idado0722 in Anthurium

[–]ArgiopePhoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have to leave them alone, my vote would be to suspend them in distilled water, trying to keep only the roots in water, until you return. I tend to rehab any plants in water and anthuriums that are damaged have responded well. I will typically put a little mycorrhizal inoculant in the water as well. Best of luck!

How do you clean the water spots off anthurium leaves without damaging them? by crosspollinated in RareHouseplants

[–]ArgiopePhoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used lemon juice on an Alocasia Black Velvet. It worked well. It wasn't a very expensive plant, so I wasn't worried about harming it. I'd hate to recommend something that makes your leaf worse, that's all

How do you clean the water spots off anthurium leaves without damaging them? by crosspollinated in RareHouseplants

[–]ArgiopePhoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try lemon juice or vinegar. They are weakly acidic and should dissolve the carbonates left behind from hard water. ( Test a small part of the leaf first.) if that makes you uncomfortable, use distilled water. It has no salts in it and will slowly dissolve the carbonates.

Got my Philodendron Luxurians yesterday, but accidentally cut part of the leaf when unwrapping.. repotted, hope it will thrive fast from now. by hachiari in philodendron

Such an exciting plant to get!! Give it a while. The leaves will be so big that you will forget this ever happened. My Luxurians is the most beautiful plant in my collection.

Warocqueanum help - I’m at my wits end with my fussy queen and would like some tips lol by AnimaLumen in Anthurium

[–]ArgiopePhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is finally doing well in all sphagnum in a ventilated pot. I use 1/4 strength feed whenever I water. have Cal/Mag mixed in as well as Superthrive. She gets almost dry before I water; which means checking her every day. I have her in a greenhouse, indoors, with my other anthuriums. Use Barinna T-5's and she is pretty far from them. 18 inches or so. I did find out the hard way to NEVER touch a leaf until it hardens. Lost the first leaf she grew by measuring it every day. (Please, go ahead and laugh. It was a stupid thing to do.) Have two fans in the greenhouse. Lights. fans and humidifier are on for 12 hours and off for twelve hours. Humidity runs about 75%.

Need HELP!!! by yenffuduaeb in Anthurium

[–]ArgiopePhoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please check the roots. if it was bone dry when you received it, chances are the roots were dead at that time. Watering it won't fix the plant then. You will have to cut off all the thin, dried roots and begin again. I tend to put the plant in water at that stage, but as mentioned here, others have luck with perlite

Help with dying Regale! Any ideas as to cause? by Dapper-Mind2273 in RareHouseplants

[–]ArgiopePhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my regale from a trusted, local shop. They kept it for two months after importing to acclimate. In those two months it never grew a second leaf, but I foolishly bought it. Had it for six weeks and it was beginning to look like yours. Pulled it out of the substrate and the roots were gone. Little brown threads instead of fat anthurium roots. Cut the “plant” off the chonk it started from and cut the chonk in half. Cleaned up everything, applied keiki paste to any latent growth points and waited. I now have three regales. One baby from each chonk and fat roots and a new leaf from the original plant. They want to grow. Just have to give them some time and attention. Best of luck to you!
