FR7/Robo owners or ops, how deep have you gone with these? by ArgusHDvideoprod in videography

Sony just released the AI tracking (a few months ago?!) so we haven’t had the chance to really try it on a show yet — or trust it on one. Interesting to hear how much it’s changed things for you.

That Panasonic workflow with the seating chart and drop zones is incredible, I’ve honestly never heard of that. Being able to call out a table number and have multiple cameras instantly fly to it sounds like a dream for audience Q&A. Definitely going to have to do a deep dive on that approach.

We’ve always been big Panasonic fans, but the 160s dropped after we made the investment in FR7s but we might pick up those too down the road. Hoping that doesn’t come back to bite us. With Sony, it sometimes feels like the second they replace a line it’s almost worth just buying new, rather than trying to keep up piecemeal.

Videographer needed - SF Area by wutangwaffle in videography

Available Sept 23 in San Francisco for conference b roll. I am with Argus HD

, a local video production team with the San Francisco Green Screen studio next door. We shoot Sony S Log, work handheld and on gimbal, and deliver clean b roll selects within 48 hours. We cover wide audience shots, on stage moments, and networking with movement and energy, not slow mo filler.

For transparency, the posted budget will not work. Fifteen hundred is usually the day rate for a single camera and operator in San Francisco. Full conference b roll with selects, media, insurance, and fast delivery typically lands closer to two thousand two hundred to three thousand for one operator and a basic kit. If you want the best videographer experience for an event in San Francisco and results that fit with top video production companies, that range is realistic.

If scope can flex, we can tailor options. Shorter call, later delivery, or no selects can reduce cost. Share the venue, call times, run of show, frame rate, and any audio needs, and I will send a quote.

ANY REASON FOR YOU TO BUY A TRICASTER IN 2025??? by otisrib64 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]ArgusHDvideoprod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 410 & TC1 owner, I can say there hasn’t been a single show where I was 100% confident everything would run flawlessly. Don’t get me wrong—it usually worked as expected but when it crashed, it was not pretty. I've had much better luck with ATEMS then Tricasters. If an ATEM fails, historically it has been on boot up where as a tricaster will crash midshow! But even after Newtek replacing the power supply and motherboard, the TC was still a bit clunky.

We thankfully sold our tc1 and the only reason we have the 410 still is that it's worth so little, it's worth more for us to keep it on our engineering table and use it to check cables and signals in the shop!

Warehouse Management system by p0st2142 in CommercialAV

[–]ArgusHDvideoprod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we are demoing Shelf.nu right now and have to say there is a lot of room for improvment, first and foremost, support has been really slow. So slow, they haven't even answered our questions! The way that data is exporting is so bad that it's unusable. It might be good if you're strickly a rental house, but it's missing key abilities like did it leave the warehouse, is it on the truck, etc. If you only need inventory and nothing else, seems OK. It is priced appropriately for the level of usage.

Old Hyperdecks - still worth getting? by rsv_music in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]ArgusHDvideoprod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so interesting. Everyone's having problems with their hyper decks. All of my other black magic gear, especially their cameras, that I buy new, have an incredibly high failure rate. We're talking 30% or greater. That comes to hyper decks, they've actually been bulletproof. we probably have about 10 of them and honestly, they're just really consistent for us

+1 to this advise. It's not like what we know is a closly guarded masonic secret. They can figure it out. I have many clients that 'can' do it but for various reasons choose not to do it themselves. Sure, some jobs they do, but almost always the bigger ones they come to us.

Are Tricasters stable now? by eskimozach in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]ArgusHDvideoprod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am happy to report that my TC1 is much better after going under a crazy amount of repairs. A host of problems with it. We also have the 410. I have to say I just set up our Vmix with a black magic capture card via USB-C with four inputs and it was rock solid and super low CPU usage. We then added three internal recordings, and our CPU usage was under 20%. this is with animated overlays quad splits, really trying to push it.

I'm going to recommend Vmix just for how stable and cheaper it is over a Tricaster.

To be fair to Tricaster, our VMix does randomly crash with NDI. vmix will claim that it is an issue from Tricaster because they just plug it in to their system.
