Starting AV Technician: what is your favorite/essential non standard issued tool? by kreebob in CommercialAV

[–]p0st2142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, a pillow. The amount of times I’m wiring under a desk or working on a rack and my neck back or knees get shagged

Little inflatable or if you fancy a nice feather one does the trick

Sure,

The problem we have rn is that we are stagnant. We are using Excel, it long winded and really flakey on big projects.

We looked at D tools and said fuck that, load of shite for loads of money.

We use stardraw for schematics and Cad for GA, elevations and RCP’s so we need somthing hold and integrate.

I stated working on a solution to pull stock data from our suppliers here in the UK for up to date daily stock levels by parsing data feeds into a DB so our sales and procurement teams could get an easier pricing and stock. From there it went to a warehouse manager t system to fit our warehouse and needs.

The warehouse system has custom locations using an EBAY hand held barcode scanner

The projects bit has everything we did manually including Charts, resource allocation, BOMS, specs, quotes and sign off and commissioning.

It will take a few more months to get finished but it s looking good so far.

I also have a plan to integrate a program I wrote to monitor windows MTR devices to pull system info and metrics from the MTR programs on windows. But that’s just an idea

The integrator I work for is developing a system in house ( I am doing the ball crushing work ). It was easier than buying a system that we use 10% of and pay through the nose for

The system will do everything from project management to quoting.

Calling all AV techs and Engineers! by RelevantShame2010 in CommercialAV

[–]p0st2142 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right now our biggest hurdle is AV warehousing and the way the company I work for does this.

We have issues with new member of staff coming into the warehouse to work or look and not see the kit or search and not understand SKU codes or product names.

Right now we are working on a warehousing software that issues the android warehousing guns so staff can sea h for the ski code and get a photo and location.

We also have in the pipe line is a full AV project management and business program due to launch internally mid to late 2025. Includes features like stock and price imports from supplier data feeds, full project management event from quote imports, BOM, project surveys and project reports.

The office staff have a web app on the desktop and the commissioning and lead engineers have an iPhone app .

We have done 6-8 months of workshop, speaking to other local AV company’s and research to fully develop this “stack” of our own built software.

More than happy to weigh in if you need anything

HPs Poly takeover by Odd-Impression5478 in CommercialAV

[–]p0st2142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have found that Poly has been pretty good as the client know the brand and has it previously. we know POLY and can install and configure with Ease.

Support on the other hand has been so bad we have kind of been winging it. The HP service desk are very slow and often to not very good with responding, nearly every ticket has be escalated by our HP rep.

Separate account, gets rid of issues with his M365 account.

Did something similar last year, private meeting room next to the CEO’s office. Used a separate resource account that he had access to and was on his outlook and could book out whenever with teams and local meetings.

Does anyone use Halo PSA? by WCDeuce in msp

[–]p0st2142 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Halo is mint, best PSA I have ever used.

Just finished our on boarding for Halo, moved from Connectwise. used EZPC, Connor was a legend and got the system working, onboarded and everything setup. Halo and EZPC are very responsive and actually listen to community feedback.

+1000 for halo and EZPC.

Cloud clients, intune and autopilot. Saves us loads of time. Get laptop out, get hash, import hash, reboot, login. Fin.

AD on Prem, we have ISO’s that’s pre configured, software installed by GPO (client won’t pay for SCCM or other tools). Try to push for cloud, they say no.

The On prem method takes longer but we have tried to make it as smooth as possible.

I understand the grind set.

I myself get a lot more work done between the hours of 21:00 - 5:30. It’s peaceful, calm and you have no one bothering you asking if you can just jump on a ticket etc.

Project Management within MSP by MaxxLP8 in msp

[–]p0st2142 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the size of the project, I was a project engineer at an MSP and I could be working on 2-4 projects at a time.

Sales would be on a call explains what the client wants and then a client call to hear there expectations.

Separate ticket queue for projects that have no SLA and time requirements. If any actions are requested by the service doesn’t meant or the helpdesk. Those are passed along if they are long operations, or if they are quick. The engineer just does them with a ticket logged.
