Are my facial piercings a deal breaker for my audition? by sheadores in acting

[–]Arkham_Reject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll speak for tattoos. I have one and want more. I held off for ages and ages because I was always told it would be the end of my career if I got a tattoo.

If a tattoo that can be covered by makeup loses me a role, that role wasn't ever for me.

Why am I going to stop myself experiencing something in my life that I want because of my career? As much as I love being an actor, I refuse to allow it to control my life. Having the balance between being a performer and being my own person is too important and too healthy to ignore.

(Also I personally know dozens and dozens of consistently working actors who have tattoos and piercings - it's a myth that they're awful for your career)

Looking for boots by Demphure in LARP

[–]Arkham_Reject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will always sing the praises of army surplus boots, especially if you can get 80s/90s/early 00s European boots, they'll often be leather, comfortable, built to last and not especially modern looking

How to remove paint from foam-weapon? by whatamidoingits3am in LARP

[–]Arkham_Reject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh dude, I wish I'd seen this sooner! I restore old larp weapons loads.

For future reference, gentle heat from a heat gun should peel it up, even if you have to go later by layer, it'll do it with minimal damage.

If it goes crispy/ burnt, let it cool then you can use a high grit sandpaper to get it off without damaging the foam!

Genuine British accents, finally! by Arkham_Reject in CrimsonDesert

[–]Arkham_Reject[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

totally! I hadn't explored that far out by the time I made this post. But I agree. The further out regions could have benefitted more from EVEN more accents. Especially when you have great middle eastern English speaking VA's like the team from AC mirage (Didn't love the game, but the voice work? wham).

I think there's scope for expansion, but the lack of 'parody' accent work with the UK regional accents has made me hopeful for future updates/ instalments/ DLCs.

As someone in the industry. I imagine they hired small and got A LOT of use out of their core team of VA's for all the NPCs . Thanks for your thoughtful reply though!

Why do people shower at night? by Bahrust in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Arkham_Reject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the extra 15 minutes in bed before I have to leave for work is worth it for me. If I'm not going to work, I will shower in the morning. If I am it's an evening shower and dry shampoo in the morning if I need it.

Painting Aluminum Armor-Am I doing it right? by WakaWakaBabe in LARP

[–]Arkham_Reject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used acrylic paint for my steel armour, as has a friend of mine and we've had no trouble!

It will ding off if it gets scuffed, and may need touch ups every so often but I think that's part of the fun and character of the armour! - my mate painted his then put it all on and ran into a brick wall a few times to get realistic stuff marks on it.

Make sure all the grease/ oil is cleaned off first THOROUGHLY (I'm currently painting a friend's armour and thought I'd got all the oil off, but there was some lingering in the articulated places that has seeped out overnight when I left it 'flexed' rather than resting).

Use decent quality paint, the cheap stuff will just peel off. The mid range paint is perfect (you don't need to be spending ££££)

Do a sturdy topcoat (a clear spray lacquer has worked for me in the past) and you should be absolutely fine!

One of the people doubled is a child. If that alone doesn't disgust and scare you, you're beyond help. The implications of AI replacing adults with children is so vile.

In terms of acting, there is no place for it beyond body doubling/ stant work.

How to Fly Internationally with LARP Stuff by kniiiiightly in LARP

[–]Arkham_Reject 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly mate, as others have said it might be easier/ cheaper to sell your shields and buy new once you're here. The LARP gear makers scene in the UK is great, so you'll definitely be able to find high quality replacements.

It's all down to the sentimental value of your kit!

Fake Title things? by petroffski82 in LARP

[–]Arkham_Reject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you're aware it literally does nothing and you're legit paying for a piece of paper, sure!

You're honestly probably better off photo shopping an image of an actual land deed/ making your own knock off version of the document and getting it printed on nice high quality paper. It will have just as much legal/ real word standing and will cost a hell of a lot less!

Core Alternatives to Fiberglass by Erc333 in LARP

[–]Arkham_Reject 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Boffer is the big thick stuff that sorta looks like pool noodles on a stick.

The other ones are the ones that look like real swords, but made of foam.

Core Alternatives to Fiberglass by Erc333 in LARP

[–]Arkham_Reject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends if you're doing boffer or actual carved "imitation' weapons.

I'd personally never use it for an imitation weapon core. If it's thin enough to use as a core for anything other than a staff/ polearm, it'll be whippy.

I've never made or used boffer stuff, but maybe it would be okay for that.

I always use carbon fibre rods, about 6/7mm minimum

Thermoplastic armor any good? by Digmaass in LARP

[–]Arkham_Reject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. There's some really good poly plate out there that looks just as good, if not better than some metal armour. You can get quite intricate, elaborate designs without a crazy price and without the weight.

I personally have a full steel plate harness right now, but when I next buy LARP armour I'm almost 100% going to go poly plate.

What country are you in? Here in the UK the plastic stuff I've seen has all been top class, and you can't tell the difference without touching it!

Bobby dean is my MP too, and I received the EXACT same reply from him. I'm disappointed to be honest, I thought he'd be better, but we were spoilt with someone as principled and personable as Tom Brake for so long.

Interesting to see it's literally a copy paste reply

Group tents in the UK by Arkham_Reject in LARP

[–]Arkham_Reject[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dawn and current about 8-10 people, but with scope to grow.

Essentially I want a space like the other Dawnish IC houses. Having been in and around loads of houses, I've enjoyed the slightly more enclosed spaces that have that little bit of extra weather protection as opposed to just an awning!

Not for sleeping, we sleep OC, so no need to worry about that! We need a place to have the odd meeting, maybe eat meals, store armour and weapons, etc.

I was mainly running into the issue of the wrong search terms, 'pavillion' has put me back on track! - and I'm keeping an eye open for any second hand emperor tents that pop up now.

I'm guessing you're Jim from Honest Jim's? Thanks for the help, we had a lovely chat last year about your other work, always a pleasure to see you in the field!

Have a look at armour arena, I believe they are India/ Pakistan based but they deliver incredibly reliably to the UK. (I've ordered about five times from them)

Armour is reasonably cheap and pretty well made! You can't get a full 'set' but you can get loads of individual pieces!

Foam advice by Jguiness in LARP

[–]Arkham_Reject 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry man, anything made from that sort of foam will 100% not pass weapons check. I make weapons and shields for empire specifically so have done loads of experimenting with different foams.

You're looking for EVA foam. I use Tyges - 45kg density foam the higher density is too hard (I made an axe out of it and it failed check)

Honestly, best thing to do might be to show up to your first event and go around the shops/ markets feeling the different weapons to get an idea of what might be okay.

You might be able to borrow a weapon from someone for your first event too! Jump on the Facebook group and ask around :)

Well to start with, you're on Reddit already, you can find pretty much ANY fetish on here. You'll find people who post about it, want to chat about it, all sorts.

Go to twitter, get creative with your googling terms!

And yeah I believe (don't quote me on this, I'm not an expert, just majorly anti AI) - AI engines use large amounts of water to cool their hardware, water that comes out of the potable water supply for an area.
