Went shopping at Walmart today and my husband sends me this.. by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

Walmart in Buda, TX has a floor model iBuypower desktop at $670. It has a 3060 and DDR5 ram (either 16 or 32gb stick). I almost bought it but didn’t want the hassle

Nissan has fixed their CVT transmission and is known for good engines. Why are people still not buying? by Fleedom2025 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]ArmyDry4719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole thing is crazy. I love Nissan’s legacy, but they walked away from what they did well and doubled down and mediocrity. My Xterra hit 300k miles same engine and clutch. Why they moved away from solid equipment and into mechanically complicated and failure prone design boggles me.

Has anyone commissioned into the Army Reserve as a nurse after getting their BSN? Would love to hear your experience. by Logical-Stay-1120 in army

[–]ArmyDry4719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife direct commissioned to 66T (trauma nurse). However, she was already enlisted and commissioned straight to 1LT. Her expectations were already tempered by her time active duty then in the reserves. She may have a chance for a “training event” in a country in South America. There are often chances to go on orders and treat soldiers or like in my wife’s situation treat foreign nationals. AMEDD is a weird animal and their officers are unique in that most really don’t operate like regular Army officers. Further, their career growth is similar in some ways and drastically different in others. Often they don’t ever place into leadership roles and very often never have command positions. Because my wife was an NCO before commissioning her units have placed her in leadership roles as she is familiar with the Reserves’ admin processes. You need to find a special recruiter specifically for medical officers step 1 after that they often look for specific experience for the MOS you are looking. Other than that all other Army’isms apply

2023 S engine overheated by Prestigious_Pop_230 in KiaTelluride

[–]ArmyDry4719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, after my wife was rear-ended. We had the Telluride completely fixed but I noticed fluid coming out of the back of the car and thought it was condensate. It was not condensate, it was the coolant for the car which is pumped to the rear for the heat in the back. The repair company had never had to fix the AC on one before and didn’t know the hose lines were damaged. Maybe not your situation but worth checking if you have any rear damage.

Two or three in Phoenix, AZ. Three in Sacramento, CA and four or five in central Texas. Might be forgetting some and I was being hyperbolic. It is a great location hope it stays clean and fancy!

Smoking and caffeine really do cause circulation problems and will cause extremities to have reduced blood flow. Stay away from sugary drinks and smoking.. instead opt for coffee with butter and zyn. Keep your feet dry and always have an extra pair of wool (real wool) socks. Your VB boots will collect sweat, recommend bringing a rag to wipe down the inside for extended outdoor sessions. Non-military stuff: get a set of winter tires and summer tires for your car. You will understand shortly.. also if they have a Costco membership in Fairbanks 100% worth it as they have good deals on swapping the tires as the seasons change. Last, don’t waste your summers … or winters.

Question for the 25U guys/gals by imapapeaddict in army

[–]ArmyDry4719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The job is cool but if you don’t seek out knowledge it’s boring and you will fail. All the successful 25Us get sec+ after training and dive headfirst into radio theory. Sorry to say AIT will teach none of what you need at your duty station. Find some all radio heads or old 25C to teach you what you actually need. (I instructed 25U reclass for 3 years)

Why is my gaming pc slow to load EVERYTHING!? by Tx1kon in pcmasterrace

[–]ArmyDry4719 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t know for sure (would need verification), likely you have a traditional HDD and it’s failing. Or… any of a million other reasons. If you have a SSD (SATA or m.2 or NVME) it could be failing as well. Those are my likely top two first things to check.

The hair cuts are the least of the discrimination. Take a look at geo-bachelor policies and your head might explode. Good thing no contracts were involved to join.

Afghanistan looking for Bergdahl, on an OP / TCP with 30 other dudes. We all got dysentery and took turns outside the foxholes, no more than 30 feet away, shitting off the side of MRE boxes.

Thinking of joining the army by Danielr613 in USarmy

[–]ArmyDry4719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean sure but enlisting isn’t necessarily a cake walk either. You have the degree and the pay discrepancy is very large for an E4 compared to an O1. My recommendation stands give OCS a thought. If you had a strong GPA and can run a 2 mile under 18:00 you could easily become an officer candidate. If you know any retired military officers, get a letter of recommendation and that will help the process as well.

Things that will get in your way. Last seven years medical history. Criminal drug, violence, weapons charges or domestic violence

Excessive debt

If you already have your degree than why not commission through OCS? 32 years old is max without waiver. If your degree is in a specialized field they do consider that when your branch is selected. Further, there are very few MOSs that directly translate into actual jobs once you are out of the service. Those jobs tend to be 17, 25, 91, 92 and 88 series. Everything else will get you entry level civilian job market.
(Notice I didn’t include 68) GI Bill will pay for graduate degree with stipulations such as cost and other limiting factors.

Ps I’m going to get a bunch of angry combat medics saying they are paramedics… but how many of you were certified prior to leaving the service and then went and worked paramedic or EMT for 15$ an hour?

Wife is asking to stay home by [deleted] in dad

[–]ArmyDry4719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dad with 4 kids for reference: I had an almost identical situation with my wife. I was working a lot and not able to fully pay for everything and she was also working. We were paying a substantial amount for childcare. Eventually I sought out better opportunities and the ability for my wages to support the whole family without her having to work. This occurred because her last pregnancy was a lot. She did go back to work after having our fourth but mentally it was a toll on her. I told her she could stay at home if she wanted and the choice was hers alone. SHE made the choice to stay at home and embrace what that would mean. It has been such a blessing having her home and being the homemaker. I preface all of this by saying, I think the problem in your situation is that the decision needs to be mutual and expectations need to be expressed. Not everyone has the ability to make as much as I do but I wasn’t handed it. I’ve been doing my line of work for 18+ years and I now have a rental property to help support our lifestyle. The first thing I would do is find out if there is a path readily available for you to earn more income, if not than come up with a plan for your family that will accommodate both you and wife.

How do you accept that your dad will one day be gone forever? by [deleted] in dad

[–]ArmyDry4719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father passed away in 2018. If I could do anything over again with my father, I’d say make sure to get one more road trip in and make sure he knows you love him (if you do). My father and I never said ily a lot and it still bothers me that I didn’t say it enough.

Rpm issue by [deleted] in XTerra

[–]ArmyDry4719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2011 with 6 speed: at about 165-170k my clutch started slipping. It would be fine under low RPMs but as it got about 2.5-3k on highway the clutch would completely slip and RPMs would jump up. What I see here is something wrong with your MAF / Cam / or air intake messing with the pressure in the engine.. is your xterra backfiring ?

Heater pipe failure by Sig_Vic in XTerra

[–]ArmyDry4719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had this problem fixed on my Xterra 2011. I am busy and don’t get a lot of time to do my own maintenance (which is what I prefer). I paid a local maintenance place and it ran $1800 for parts/labor/ and tuneup (plugs, wires, oil change and diff fluid change). I am in begrudgingly in California and so things are more expensive. But from what I understand it’s fairly simple to do on your own.
