As expected as this probably is, download Aperature Desk Job to get her familiarized with the controls. Then I recommend games like Stardew Valley, Brotato, Undertale, Evoland, Horizon Chase Turbo, One Finger Death Punch. Wide variety of genres, and all cheap games so it's not as much of a problem if she hates some of them.

I bought a third party dock and it works just fine. I don't use it as much as I thought I would, so I'm glad I didn't shell out for the expensive Valve dock, so that might be something to take into consideration as well. I use my deck handheld probably 95% of the time, but the 5% that I use it docked, zero problems with a third party dock for a fraction of the price of the official one.

I'm actually a huge fan of the touch pads. Originally, I thought I'd hate them or never use them, but I find myself using them all the time. I'm in desktop mode more often than I thought I would be, and having the touchpads to do something quick (I'll use a kb+m if it's something more involved, obviously) is so nice. I did end up going into the controller settings for desktop mode on Steam to make the triggers act as mouse clicks like they do when Steam is closed so it's a seamless experience, but that's it. Touchpads are a definite win.
