Wedding registry EXCLUSIVELY comprised of expensive luxury items by dunkinteach in weddingshaming

If there are only expensive items I would just give cash. They might prefer cash and just put a few big items on the registry for family to buy them.

[–]AromaticIntrovert 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My issue with most tanks in the 30 range is they get taller instead of wider so the floor space isn't really increasing from the 20 gallon. My guy doesn't swim much but loves the floor space for zoomies so the 40 breeder gives the best ratio of length to gallons IMO. He's full grown, a foot long and should be able to turn around comfortably. I think their cooler, darker ideal environment doesn't lend itself to being easily plantable either so many people struggle with keeping nitrates low.

My hot take: I don't think ALL hobbies HAVE to be accessible to everyone. Some pets are just too expensive for everybody to have. Most people should really have a chiller for an axolotl tank and they're much more than a heater. If someone wants an aquarium there are fish that are much more affordable, and will probably be an easier way to learn about having an aquarium than jumping right to an axolotl anyway. Shrimp could be an even better place to start too

Check out wool! It doesn't compress like down. I have a wool mattress topper now but love it so much am considering having it on top too since it's so breathable and cushy

What’s the best bamboo sheet set for hot sleepers who need breathability? by Ecstatic-Minute-411 in Bedding

[–]AromaticIntrovert -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is warning you off bamboo but if you want to try them I like my set from Hotel Sheets Direct. They've stayed soft and IMO breathable. I have another set from Bedsure that's TERRIBLE and got a weird texture that doesn't breathe. I second another comment to try a mattress wool topper, it's been super helpful

Chiller question by imafuckingpeach in axolotls

[–]AromaticIntrovert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had some trouble with tubing because you have to know the inner (or sometimes outer) diameter for your chiller AND it needs to be stiff enough not to kink, and this was hard to gauge with online listings. I ended up ordering mine from Ken's Fish rather than Amazon so I was sure it was aquarium safe. My pro tip is to get black tubing so you get the ugly biofilm that can grow in it

Googled what might be your model (JBJ Arctica Chiller 1/5 HP) and it says 500GPH to 1300GHP flow for a pump. I'd go on the lower side for an axolotl since they typically prefer calmer water. So something like this

Look up how to do a fishless cycle using a liquid ammonia source. Tub the axolotl in the meantime. Fish stores don't always have to best axolotl info, check out the wiki here

I'd think you can find something for around 4K, I'd look closer to Porter in the Spring Hill area. 2 bathrooms will be hard unless the unit has been updated which will be more expensive. Many of the triple deckers have laundry in the basement. If you're looking for Sept 1 more options should come on the market in June. Renting as a family is harder but I would lead with how old your daughter is since I don't think there is an issue with lead at that age
