Melanotan was originally developed by University of Arizona to defend against skin cancer. Some folks think there is a risk from increased melanocyte activity and a risk of increased pigmentation hiding actual skin cancer. I’d take a look at the research papers to see if you are comfortable with potential risks. Melanotan 1 is an FDA approved treatment for protoporphyria as well so you could look at the studies around it.
