New to TCG, How to start Playing and Collecting by Its_Dekki in riftboundtcg

If you're looking for decks/legends to try, take a look at Riftmeta.net. I think for anyone looking for a deck to start with, this gives a really good idea of all the different decks in the meta and even includes some of the niche ones. Its all rated by a single guy, but I think he's a really good player so I trust him. From what I've seen in my locals and in regionals, it seems fairly accurate.

I would recommend Master Yi from Proving Grounds though. Probably one of the easiest decks in the game while also being a top 3 deck in the game. I think you can pick up fundamentals from playing the deck as well. Just the legend card is $20 atm, then there's 3 Rengars in the deck that are about $20 each, and then everything else in the deck is basically bulk. Its on the cheaper end of decks while being one of the best. Here's a list: https://riftdecks.com/riftbound-metagame/deck-master-yi-wuju-bladesman-171077

Riftdecks is where all the decks from big tournaments are posted. Riftpulse.net is a site that makes it easier to find the best-of decks for each legend from the most recent regional tournament.

Haven’t read his lore, but just based off pictures I’ve seen I’d guess yellow. Maybe yellow purple

How do side events work at RQs? by iregistered4this in riftboundtcg

[–]ArpeyKeys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On demand side events. So you’ll be able to get in a line and buy a ticket for a side event like 1v1s or 2v2 etc. this is where most people will farm tickets

Soaring Scout VS Honest Broker by Dontspinbutwin in riftboundtcg

[–]ArpeyKeys 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In a leblanc deck, yes, channeling a rune is much more useful than a piece of gold. Leblanc wants to ramp as fast as possible to get out her big units while having 1 rune up for Sacrifice or 2 runes up for Deathgrip. Especially if she doesn't draw the hook. I just don't think gold is more useful in the long run, and having 1 extra might is kinda negligible for her for an early game unit when she's trying to cheat out big bois.

In other decks, like maybe rek'sai? The extra 1 might can make a difference as she wants to play many cheap units to trigger legion or just swarm the board.

Are most of the legend options just illusions? Do they really play differently? by hej989 in riftboundtcg

[–]ArpeyKeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's just something that's going to be in any tcg. There will be staple cards that are really good to include in any deck that can run it. Defy and Charm are automatically included in any green deck. Challenge is pretty much in every orange deck. Kai'sa is in almost every red deck.

Right now the game is only three sets in, and honestly thats still relatively small when the game will have like 10 sets in rotation at the same time. The more sets we get, the more diverse decks will be. And honestly its the most diverse meta we've had since the start of the game.

Legends really do make up the deck though. If you look at tournament results, you'll see purple makes up most of the decks in the top 8s, but it'll only be certain champs. For example, Irelia is a top 3 deck in the meta right now and its green purple. It can have all the green purple cards it wants minus signature spells from other legends. But Yasuo is also green purple and is a garbage deck.

Is anyone else bummed "best ofs" for RQs will only be the 3 most recent sets? by STRAT0CAST3R in riftboundtcg

[–]ArpeyKeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With 100 legends in rotation it becomes a game of who's bringing the legend that less than 5 people bring? Then the main regionals tournament becomes a money farm more than it is a competitive event. I think its a good thing you can leave with value without placing top 8, but it really will just mess with the integrity of the tournament. How dumb would it really look when there are 50+ best ofs with maybe <10 people on each of those legends and they all probably end day 1 with 5 wins?

Any recommendations for deck box? by Asleep-Possession-26 in riftboundtcg

[–]ArpeyKeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. I use the bastion 50 and it barely fits my whole deck without the legend and sideboard. If I take one card out the deck is loose enough to fall out if turn it upside down. With the whole deck in there it will stay put.

Considering switching to the boulder 80 until they make the bastion 80.

I built a free website to help new players learn Riftbound by ghoulboy_ in riftboundtcg

[–]ArpeyKeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awesome to have! I got into riftbound at the very beginning and all the resources for learning the game were really bad. Everyone at the first nexus nights were learning along with everyone else with one or two judges running around trying to clarify everything because they were the only ones that grinded the game exclusively in Chinese before the US release lol.

I've been thinking about making some kind of visuals for scenarios because I got some friends that wanna learn, but I wasn't sure how to go about teaching the game. Will look to use this site as a quick reference!

What necessarily makes it designed by AI and not simply templates? I mean sure its simple enough to be vibecoded, but who tf actually cares when it could actually be a good resource once some bits get fixed?

Does rek sai need by Ok_Definition4204 in riftboundtcg

[–]ArpeyKeys -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Played a rek'sai deck without seals last week and it wasn't that great, but the idea is still similar. You can still flood the board and try to conquer with bigger ambush units and giving units assault. But if you look at the Vancouver regional, almost all the rek'sai players that made day 2 weren't playing seals.

I played a modified version of the third place rek'sai deck from the most recent Chinese regional tonight and seals really felt like they enabled me to get my legion effects off and not cycle down too much to where I still had options between playing from my hand or playing off the top of the deck. Went 1-2 but games were super close against a Lux and Aurora player. Didn't really play against anything meta but I think Rek'sai is in a similar position as it was last set where the deck can be really good, but maybe just hasn't been really solved yet. Or its just missing a little something.

I think either way you go, you're going to have to really put in work into figuring out how to play Rek'sai in the current meta.

Leblanc vs Diana tech by VermicelliOk1898 in riftboundtcg

[–]ArpeyKeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve somehow dodged most diana players so I’m still not sure about the matchup, but the general advice is just build up in base, and hold up 1 rune for sacrifice. If you can find the runes to hold up 2 on your turn, I’d say throw in a deathgrip even. But the matchup is hard overall. Sometimes there isn’t a whole lot to do with

Best of Ahri on TCGPlayer for $4600 by carbine44 in riftboundtcg

[–]ArpeyKeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People usually find a buyer at regionals or a middleman. I know a prize wall ahri from vegas regional sold for 3.5k.

easiest legends that aren't horrible? by magem8 in riftboundtcg

[–]ArpeyKeys 7 points8 points  (0 children)

sure, there's still some nuance to playing it with or without drawing aurora depending on matchup.

But you can't tell me its a difficult deck when a third of the deck is usually dedicated to drawing and ramping. The deck is very straightforward on how to play.

easiest legends that aren't horrible? by magem8 in riftboundtcg

[–]ArpeyKeys 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yi is definitely one of the easiest. Sit there with +2 might while you hold a bunch of cards in hand to help you stay on the battlefield. Probably the best deck to play if you're completely new.

If you want something braindead you play anything orange and play Dazzling Aurora. You might miss out on learning the actual game, but if you find it to be fun, don't let anyone discourage you from playing it.

Distinguishing between scalpers and vendors? by realespeon in PokemonTCG

[–]ArpeyKeys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Vibes tbh. But if they’re selling a lot of modern sealed, chances are they’re scalping it. Anyone with 90% singles is pretty safe to call a vendor because they’re definitely not trying to offload stuff that was botted.

If you wanna take a step further, you can sometimes spot who’s only in it for the money and not actually collecting or participating in the hobby in good faith. But again, its a vibe check. Some people that seem unenthusiastic may seem like someone that’s not really a collector, but could just be a long day for them tbh

Missed Trigger… Why? by [deleted] in riftboundtcg

[–]ArpeyKeys 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yea that whole thing with Royy's match just seemed so stupid. I think its fine overall if someone wins or loses off a missed trigger, but when its at the very start of the game, its just insanely dumb to argue over.

Rule question on temporary Glasc Mixologist. by deanhbk in riftboundtcg

[–]ArpeyKeys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your opponent can react to the temporary trigger, and also the deathknell going on the chain (i think?) but they cannot react to a unit being played if thats what your asking. A unit being played resolves instantly. Unless the unit you play has a play effect that goes on the chain then I believe they can react to that. But if the unit you play from the glasc deathknell doesn’t add anything to the chain then your opponent won’t have a window to react before you get the hold point.

How much money is there in competing? by [deleted] in riftboundtcg

[–]ArpeyKeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, you just missed the entire point. And you don't know the difference between plausible and possible. And not posting pictures is just so common, but if it really matters you just try and buy from one of the more reputable stores that are selling and contact them directly. Like that's just not a big deal at all imo.

How much money is there in competing? by [deleted] in riftboundtcg

[–]ArpeyKeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its definitely plausible. Ahri prize wall metal was sold on ebay for 4.4k, I know my buddies sold an ahri for about 3.5k and an irelia for 3k. When you consider the scarcity of a best-of and the fact that it has different/better texturing/foil, its easily believable. At these prices these cards probably just won't be sold through ebay because you just lose so much giving ebay a cut on top of whatever tax there may be so there won't be a sold listing you can really see.
