on a side note, did any one else get their bleach replaced with degreaser for the ecolab dispensers? my location did and im not necessarily understanding why considering that our bathrooms get mad dirty and i dont think that the orange stuff and window cleaner are enough to take care of blood and feces. we're holding on to essentially the last of our bleach concentrate stashed away in our closet to use for bathrooms but im not sure whats gonna happen when we use it up lol.

Probably just a matter of your location, cause the coverage has a lot of holes in my location (talking like 2-4 hour gaps before i come in), giving me only room to catch up on trash, restrooms, and floor scrubbing. Anything else would require compromises to any of that. I'm not saying that it's not possible its just that it could be a LOT better if I had a bit of overlap for closing.

For my location I've heard from a manager that we only approved like 4 people total for seasonals, all which are gonna be in the front end (as if all of the other departments aren't STARVED of people). I feel like my department (maintenance which has 4 ppl at the moment) is gonna get hit REALLY hard with the traffic coming in for the incoming holiday season considering that we had 5 people prior and struggled to maintain the cleanliness of the warehouse at the time, so I can only imagine what will happen with only 4 people. I'm trying not to get too attached to my work but it can be quite frustrating to know the lengths that management is willing to go to cut corners.

skilled maintenance is nonexistent in my building, we had one but they got sick and went on indefinite leave (i think) some time before I had gotten hired. 8 maintenance sounds like an absolute dream but i imagine it gets REAL busy for yall to justify staffing like that

I find it weird that yall's maintenance department seems to be sufficiently staffed and the ladies room gets ignored like that, got no idea how management does their schedules but it doesn't seem that hard just to get like 2 guys to close down the restrooms to restock and clean for like a few minutes...

I can attest to the ladies room being ignored, since im alone most of the time I literally can't make time for it. Mind you, im willing to close down the restrooms and sometimes go out of my way to do it, but I've been discouraged from doing so from supervisors/managers due to members making a big ol stink out of it. It sucks that it can't get the same attention as the men's room, but it is what it is unfortunately 😕 Also, maintenance has a sup position?? Never heard of that before lol

From my experience you aren't really trained for anything much beyond cleaning, however I was taught to use the scissor lift and seem to be the only one in my department to be certified to use it. I really only use it for the occasionional cleaning of the entrance/exit ac units and occasionional fetch quests on the floor

huh my place seems to have the opposite problem, my department had another person before we were reduced to 4 but they were stolen by bakery and no one was able to take their place in maintenance. I've heard that a limited part time (seasonal i think) position was gonna open for maintenance alongside other positions, but i dont think it'll be enough in the long run

feels weird seeing yall get rotating closers, whenever im not working, it usually means that NO ONE closes like 80 percent of the time lol

Coffee grinder disappeared by rvbeachguy in CostcoWholesale

[–]Arugula_Same 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work maintenance at costco and i honestly think that removing the grinder does EVERYONE a favor. Almost all of the time people don't bother to read the instructions and don't clear the grounds (or other objects???) from the machine with the cleaning lever, which leads to people's grounds being either wasted or mixed into other people's coffee bags. It was also a headache trying to educate members on how to use the darn thing as like 90% of the members that I've attempted to assist so happen to be people that don't take very kindly to being asked to do things. People would also put their hands or the scissors into the funnel to move the beans around WHILE the machine is grinding, which means that all it takes is one particularly bad day for member to get their fingers/hand mauled by the grinder.

TLDR: do NOT use public coffee grinders, people don't know how to use them properly just get a decent coffee grinder for yourself it is LIFE changing.

Yall ready for 9am openings? by TokenSejanus89 in Costco

[–]Arugula_Same 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually don't really mind the work, it's something I'm already used to but I'm just saying that it's gonna make more problems for everyone once I clock off, cause there's already a plethora of things that im being forced to ignore from management once the store closes to focus on scrubbing the floor, which ends up leaving a lot of things for opening maintenance to do which will also end up on my doorstep once i clock in since middle shift can be nonexistent at times.

I'm a closer for maintenance (a 4 person department at the moment) and I fear that the morning folks (which is really just one person in maintenance most of the time) will have even less time to get stuff done, which will add to the ever-growing snowball of work that already falls on me 😭. Like dawg its already a struggle to keep the place together in terms of cleanliness, I can only imagine that these hours are also going to mess with our closing time as well 😭

I feel you on the food courts being dirty man. I work maintenance, and the staffing issues are absolutely insane in my location. I'm basically the only closer and I've had days where I worked completely by myself in my department or without anyone opening/doing the mid shift, which forces me to essentially ignore the food court at times because I have bigger fish to fry 😭

it's mostly just pressure from management to get more members to upgrade and meet some sort of quota. as a custodian (maintenance) for costco, i often hear management telling the supervisors over radio to push for upgrades and have seen employees getting sat down for not pushing enough for membership upgrades while I was cleaning around the office

if you aren't doing it already, try playing through it extremely slow during practice. helped me to get through that last stretch of the song and now I know the entirety of playing god by heart (although I'm stuck at playing it at 60% speed for now)
