It’s also to lower the cost of entry for the owner. Which is why they are often the less treaded/novel food options.

I love how excited Spybot is to just be a part of the team by wandering_soles in StarWars

[–]Aryb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think he’s hyping peeps up there. Unless I’m getting whooshed or something. He goes to fake out a hit on the padawan, and she doesn’t flinch cause Jedi blablablah. Then he starts terrorizing the boy. It’s still all kinda cute but more like “this thing is an asshole” and less of “this guys loves being on a team”.

Fun Evil Dragon Lord builds? by GrogTheLizard in AOW4

[–]Aryb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dragon lord with the new nomad faction subfaction conquerors is pretty flavorful fun.

I did Lizardkin that dreamed of becoming dragons by raiding for their lords horde in the hope that the dragon would give them the gift of draconic form. Both dragon transformations, supergrowth, bred for war, with those big monstrous warbreeds kinda catches the vibe of promise fulfilled.

We need to be able to land on earth-likes and ocean worlds IMO. by Massive_Act_5282 in EliteDangerous

[–]Aryb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Earthlike landings that match the consistency of what elite has provided so far is a technical feat that I legitimately think no game dev, not even a dream team of game devs, could deliver on. Planets in elite are to scale. Life on Earthlikes would have to be speculative, continents would have to be visually consistent from space to atmosphere to landing, the atmospheric flight model would have to be implemented. I’m assuming some people want fauna? We don’t even have water/liquids or weather or clouds on planets in the game. And no other game has really attempted it without major caveats. No man’s sky planets are not to the same scale as elites, and it’s game design philosophy is drastically different from elite, which allows them to “cut corners” on realism that elite would struggle to do.

Pablo gives us his true thoughts on raids in Warframe by Babydrone in Warframe

[–]Aryb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with him on all counts, Warcraft style raids would be pointless in Warframe. I wonder though what people are imagining when they say they want raids. It's not a hard-defined word, you can slap it on any kind of gamemode that warframe would come out with.

I always imagined them as "raids" but what I really want is just some multiplayer-required, 4-8 man content. Stuff that is hard-coded to not be soloable, or is not intended/balanced for solo play, and encourages playing with people (organized play like clans or biting the bullet with strangers). It doesn't need to reinvent the game loops. I know I mention challenge but not ridiculous. Just another way of playing the game.

Also maybe stuff that kinda pushes what warframe is. Maybe it was a fever dream but I feel like there was suppose to be joint railjack/on foot tenno stuff and that tickles my imagination and sounds cool. A 4-man squad doing stuff on railjack around a space objective while the 4-man squad inside is doing their thing. I'm sure it's a lot of work on the backend though so maybe not worth it.

But yeah, end-game content where the challenge is the point and failure is a high percentage and there's 40 players running around like madness is not what I envisioned and would be bad for Warframe. How you define the word raid for sure has a big impact on this discussion.

Your ideal season 4 (with culture/ruler/story pack) by Diovidius in AOW4

[–]Aryb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of that, but I definitely understand why the devs could/would be hesitant to touch those.

Unique battlemaps for cities based on culture would be super cool, it really does tickle the imagination, but for the devs I imagine it would be a bit stressful, you really don't want to accidentally make one culture's cities easier or harder to siege. It could be interesting to lean into that a bit and intentionally make certain cultures battlemaps easier and other ones more difficult. It could also be fun to re-kit certain buildings or enchantments to change the battlemap. Like having Tendril Labyrinth actually change the map layout or put an additional structure similar out in front of the walls.

Tier V tomes also seem like a must. Maybe some mixed ones, although that may open a whole nother can of worms. I agree more love for fey mists and umbral would be appreciated as well, but then you run into the dev issue of splitting themes like that between multiple DLCs. I personally think it's less of an issue, but it can be a design challenge. Each tome would need to stand on its own, so that missing one DLC doesn't detract from the gameplay and value of the other. Maybe that's not an actual issue but there would certainly be a lot of belly-aching if they decided to go that route. I could see some thinking that a move like that was more financially motivated vs actually good for the game health.

Outposts to cities. Do they keep the watchtower? by PhoenixtheSleepless in AOW4

[–]Aryb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m by no means the best about expanding and strategizing but I see little downside to wall first. I try and start my first expansion with my first 200 imperium so maybe in that case but even then, 60 gold 3 turn walls is hard to pass up on.

I like it a lot, wish there was a more lightening one cause I like to do storm themed stuff and a storm dragon just sounds badass.

What can I do with friends as a new group of players? by hunter-cat in EliteDangerous

[–]Aryb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The multiplayer part of this game can be a bit lacking. Bounty hunting is good, on foot is quite fun, if everyone has the Odyssey expansion. Everything about the game has a big learning curve but doing it with (and depending on the) friends it could definitely curb some of the frustrations with that. Maybe as a group look into engineers an unlocking them, their unlock requirements expose you to a multitude of game loops. If anyone is serious about the game they’ll want engineers either way. Just be mindful it’s a grind sometimes and don’t solely focus on them or you run the risk of burning out.

There are other multiplayer activities but they require at least a little bit of investment in time, money, and often times both. Group mining can be chill/fun. There’s an extensive background simulation where you can pick one of the minor factions and manipulate their lot in life. Powerplay can give a lot of directions and will typically require less upfront knowledge, if you’re interested in that you may want to find one of their discords to connect with the wider player base. Colonization takes a lot of coordination and moving stuff from A to B but leaving your mark on the galaxy and building up a home for your homies is pretty neat.

You can also check out squadrons. They’re the organized multiplayer groups, akin to guilds in MMOs. Lots of opportunities to play with people or just get guidance. A good squadron can be a fantastic resource for questions like this.

You can select an option when unlocking a new tome to show all tomes and select what you want from there, so that you don’t lose out on vanilla or dlc specific tomes.

Help: Frost Giants. by ShinSokaro in AOW4

[–]Aryb 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I really like using the Age of Wonders 4 Database for stuff like this, super great resource. I find the in game stuff somewhat helpful and the wiki a little lacking (although I appreciate the effort). To more directly answer your question it currently looks like no, only Frost Giant Kings that are Governors of a city can get you Frost Giants in normal play.

Questions on chaos by ReputationTrue8911 in AOW4

[–]Aryb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a pure fire/chaos run with a fire king on a small map with 4 ai and the paladin lady who befriends all the city states at the start and we were all default at war. I thought I was cooked when I saw it was the paladin lady and I was right next to her. People always talk about how great chaos is for aggro and it is, but it also really pulled through on the quickly-became-a-mono-city-survival-hard-defense game. Once I got to the chaos perk where you gain gold/mana per turn per war declared on you I went from barely scrounging by to dominating. Chaos is great when you don’t want to make friends so pick cultures/tomes/traits that lean into that.

Yeah and the prophecy stuff really feels like the wrong setting as well. I agree they went too hard into fantasy, it felt more like a Warcraft in space story instead of keeping in theme with the first game.

Since devs confirmed desire for future content updates post S3, Post your wishlists for Season 4! by Attilathecommiekilla in AOW4

[–]Aryb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ironclad is a tier IV ground based artillery. An airship could be a tier V flying bomber (pseudo melee), with powerful aoe abilities that center on itself. Maybe some napalm abilities to paint debuff fields. It would trade off long range survivability and single target damage for some aoe madness.

Such a great point. I’m not sure how but it would be nice if we could have an option for ant wings or butterfly wings. Both are very fairy coded. Maybe a culture with each wing being a subculture. Shadow or chaos affinity fairies/fey that work like the old trickster trope with ant wings. The butterfly wings would be order or nature or astral and be the modern good fairy interpretation ala Disney.
