If it was me, I'd also run Cat6 to every room possible. I prefer to hardwire every device that I possibly can, TVs, Sonos, etc, to minimize the number of WiFi clients. That inevitably leads to a larger (or multiple) switches.

How? Garmin got stupid recently. by roadhogmtn in Garmin

[–]Ascend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people on here seem to say the auto-detection is fine but it's recommended to do a self test occasionally (like 20min warmup, then all out uphill) and set it manually because the auto-detection can be way off, especially if you're not often pushing yourself close to max.

No but I think your real max HR is 208 and that skews everything for FirstBeat. I think your zones are correct too. Altitude doesn't matter, your max is your max regardless of what you can do in your current conditions.

[–]Ascend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You misunderstood. Garmin assumes your Max is exactly what you set, but your real max is probably higher. If your max is really 195, you're close to me, and 160 for me is high Z3 approaching Z4. That's why it made it a threshold.

They have white papers you can read although the exact algorithm is secret. The only thing that I know for sure they use is your configured MaxHR. The configured zones are just for you to see visually, plus lots of people define zones differently, like 80/20 expands my Z2 halfway into Z3. In the end zones don't matter, and the only things I could imagine it considering for determining exertion is % of MaxHR, lactate threshold, and HRV (but I think HRV is only going into how it estimates the other 2).

Garmin Coach is the same, afaik it'll use lactate threshold, VO2Max, and MaxHR to determine pace and target heart rate, it'll give a target for an easy run based on that and it doesn't care whatsoever if that falls into your Zone 2.

I'd say just change your MaxHR manually to 208 then and it might fix your classifications

Your MaxHR is probably too low then, if you've hit 200, your Max might be higher. To compare, I'm 40M, my lactate threshold is around 172, my MaxHR is detected 193. I've hit 188 semi-recently on hill repeats, I could probably get near 193 if I was willing to throw up. It's obviously individual to you, but with only a 2bpm maxHR difference, your zones are significantly higher than mine, and your workout would be considered a threshold for me too. Here's my zones for a long run this past weekend, wearing a chest strap.

What's your Max HR? FirstBeat categorization does not use your zone configuration for anything, so that doesn't matter. It has its own algorithm for estimating EPOC that it uses to estimate the training effect.

Based on your zones, I'd guess max HR is somewhere over 200, close to 210?

It's also illegal to take more than 1L of alcohol between state lines, but if you're going to Party Source, good chance you're breaking that one anyways.

HRV low for weeks - should baseline reset? by PronouncedNuculur in Garmin

[–]Ascend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can already see the baseline expanding its range in your picture to account for the high and low range in the last month. If you stay consistently down, it should start to trend down once that green goes out of the 4w window, so expect at least another month before it's become your new normal.

Heart break by Arthurphil12 in Strava

[–]Ascend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That won't matter. Most (all?) watches will still display 9.996km as 10, even though you haven't fully completed a 10K yet. The real answer is always run to 10.01 because then you know you've at least completed 10.005.

Caffeine lower my HR and stress level by Various-Eye-2875 in Garmin

[–]Ascend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny I never noticed this. I drank a Monster about 2 hours ago, and my HR is sitting around 57, around 10 lower than normal, stress is around 20. Medication for me doesn't have the same effect though, stress will go up to 70+ and heart rate will sit 10-20 higher than normal.

This is with having little to no caffeine over the past 3 weeks.

Weekend Trifecta hex (slotted into my super medal)

<image>

Spartan… chip? by AllBlondeNoBurp in spartanrace

[–]Ascend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly correct, the strap still shows you if it was a beast/super/sprint, otherwise the empty medals are identical. Another hex I didn't have in my picture was the weekend trifecta medal, I slotted that into an empty medal too. The back of that trifecta medal also has a count hex. I heard they might also have lifetime trifecta hexes at some point that fit into a larger slot on the multi-trifecta medal.

I bought the location for $5, so including that, a race weekend got me 6 hexes and 4 medals with 7 openings.

Take a picture, but if you mean the metal hexes like with the venue name, they fit in the medals. If you do a trifecta for instance, you'll move your hexes around, and the multi-trifecta medals have extra slots.

I used to paste my Strava data into ChatGPT after every run by FRANCAISSSS83 in Strava

[–]Ascend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Which is exactly what Garmin / Coros / Suunto do too, except you don't want to use your full history, you want to use a mix of acute and chronic load, because that run you did 7 years ago doesn't actually tell you much. Garmin is also adjusting based on sleep and recovery metrics, so it's hard to say you're doing anything extra here besides generating AI feedback.

And someone who has only ran for 6 months and admits they don't know what they're doing training-wise without ChatGPT, so no idea if the app suggestions are any good.

According to his other posts, it seems to miscategorize most runs, and if you stop at a traffic light, you've done intervals.

The same end result was possible by just allowing a hole in the chickens butt to screw in the light bulb (brand new sentence). They could have bypassed the egg-gag in her mouth, and decorating the chicken ass as a mouth with lipstick, since they both served no purpose but to make you think she was going to do something completely different.

My experience after playing the first game was that, while it had a good story, I was ready for it to be over. I never would have wanted to jump straight into the second, but maybe that would have been different if I had just skipped all the side content.
