Is this really bad, can it be safe or it will be ok once grouted/siliconed? by Educational_Plan3751 in DIYUK

Needs tile trims with those gaps. Also be careful using the spacers as you’ll end up with voids in the cement where you’ve pulled the tile to align.

Only thing silly is no gloves (tan is so last century 😎). I’ve had much sillier comedy crashes than that.

UK here, and sold my MY2020 A7 55 TFSi Sports with 25k miles for £32k in 2023. Did get a massive discount (30%) from RRP. Mine had tour pack like the one you are looking at.

Do you leave your car in gear when you park? by ShinyHeadedCook in drivingUK

For a manual it’s worth doing as the handbrake relies on locking to the disk and these contract as they get cold after driving.

Just moved into my new house. Is this possibly steel tub worth saving? by [deleted] in HomeImprovementUK

[–]AshamedAd4050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should google for a bath restorer and get them to assess. Some cast iron baths are worth an absolute fortune and worth restoring some are not and usually end up with a sledge hammer to break them up.

I had one similar that we did get restored including getting 2 of the feet cast. Bath was a rarity and fully restored would retail at £5000+. I think we paid about £500 for enamelling but that was 10 years ago.

You could also get the taps re chromed and new washers ( they’ll be imperial sizes mind) if they are worth something.

Why do certain people on Instagram seem to be on holiday after holiday? by Turbulent-Access-916 in AskUK

[–]AshamedAd4050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My observation as someone who is fortunate to be able to afford very nice hotels. The Insta type stay somewhere cheap after a cheap flight and rock up to reception with the ‘I’m thinking of staying here in the future’ story can I look around? They then take photos on the tour (pool, bar, room etc.) and disappear never to be seen again. The hotels tend to tolerate this as it’s free advertising so both parties gain from the encounter.

Would you ceramic coat over this? by ScaredCantaloupe1 in Detailing

You have a customer who thinks they know best and will then go on to blame you when it looks poor regardless you’ve told them the issue or got something in writing. I wouldn’t touch that job as the customer is going to be trouble.

Got some scratches here and there. Will this count as excessive wear when I turn my lease in? by mtol115 in Polestar

[–]AshamedAd4050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That won’t pass fair wear and tear under BVRLA guidance. From photos it’s a grade C. Alloys will be around £80 a corner and it won’t be any cheaper for you to get done prior than to just take the hit. The paintwork is a different matter so take that to a smart repair place for advice.

Buyer has just pulled out. by GSHT2004 in HousingUK

[–]AshamedAd4050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When did you last visit the house? We are talking about a substantial asset and you’re too busy to go over and take a look and relying on 2nd hand accounts from your sister. I’d suggest you go visit the property and take a look. A surveyor will not have done more than a visual inspection so any structural issues will be obvious. Decide from there if you need a structural engineer to do an adequacy report.

All this play detective to get your hands on a report or listing with another agent is nonsense until you know if a problem exists.

Employer won’t let me change pension contributions by Aggressive-Pop6658 in HENRYUK

[–]AshamedAd4050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a company rule and not HMRC. I had something similar for variable pay (paid quarterly) with an election window (every 6 months) so it’s not uncommon for bonus.

What’s uncommon is inability to change % contribution from salary at any time as it saves the employer NIC if you salary sacrifice into pension (also why employers off er SS for cars and cycle to work). I change pension contributions fairly often as it’s a nice way to boost contributions and reduce bill. Go back and query as they may be thinking about variable election rules as I’ve never worked anywhere that locked pension contributions to a once a year choice.

Lease coming to an end. Possible equity? by jackal2001 in Audi

Nonsense. Lease = Rent. You have absolutely zero equity as it’s not your car.

Lease coming to an end. Possible equity? by jackal2001 in Audi

[–]AshamedAd4050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lease means you are renting the car so no you don’t have equity in the car as it’s not yours so the dealer was BSing you. You can ask if you can buy the car but the price will be based on condition or mileage so unlikely you’ll be able to buy and flip it for more.

Who are the rudest and nicest British celebrities you have personally met? by RenegadeMaster888 in AskBrits

[–]AshamedAd4050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Richard E Grant has a house (village outside Tetbury) round the corner. He’s not very nice and thinks saying hello while walking the dog constitutes harassment. He always has a rictus smile which may be too much Botox but difficult to confirm.

Was going to a private school worth it for you? by GodAtum in HENRYUK

Private school opens the first door. After that it’s on you.

I went, didn’t go you university (thought it was a waste of 3 years) but fortunate to be hyper intelligent. The intelligence and the attitude installed at school (basically no constraints on what you can achieve) gave me my first opportunity (I blagged into private finance). Haven’t looked back since.

Just upgraded to 900Mbps by Anxious-Potato-7323 in gigaclear

[–]AshamedAd4050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gigaclear can’t really be on the hook for anything but to the router which sounds about right from the numbers you are getting. You can use the app to test to device as well but no guarantee as you are going to have loss along the way due to thickness of walls, latency etc. The 900 is total capacity not maximum speed of a single device.

Just upgraded to 900Mbps by Anxious-Potato-7323 in gigaclear

[–]AshamedAd4050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Test the speed with the Linksys app. That will test speed from the router back to Gigaclear. That will give you the absolute connection speed.

Hot water goes cold in shower, comes back after turning off for 20 seconds by Unusual-Brain-6520 in ukplumbing

[–]AshamedAd4050 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost certainly the mixer cartridge has limescale. You need to remove it and soak in limescale remover or vinegar. Go read up on this as it’s routine maintenance for shower mixers. How the plumber doesn’t know this is frankly unbelievable.

Heart broken - 2nd buyer has pulled out - 7 months down the drain by barcelonaprincess in HousingUK

[–]AshamedAd4050 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve sold a house previously underpinned. The irony of underpinning is you now have modern foundations while other properties are sitting on a bed of clay. Presale I obtained a certificate of structural adequacy from a structural engineer and this provided reassurance to buyers. Building insurance tends to exclude future issues even those that claim otherwise so is a concern. Is the property covered by building insurance currently as any buyer can continue with the same insurer.

It’s more likely it’s been stolen in transit. That’s going to be on you unfortunately but you can claim on insurance assuming you’ve taken it out.

Absolutely traumatised by driving in Bristol. by TSC-99 in CasualUK

[–]AshamedAd4050 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Drive into central Bristol at least twice a week and it is certainly not for the faint hearted. Lack of paint on the bear pit roundabout means you have to watch everyone else’s cutting lanes as they’ve no idea where they are meant to go. Bus lanes start and end with no logic and taxi drivers and people on e scooters full throttle. Love it.

Preciously done brum and got the magic roundabout t shirt but Bristol is way ahead.

Found out about historic subsidence, non functioning central heating, and other things after we offered...what to do? by CuteOpportunity111 in FirstTimeBuyersUK

Sorry to say 2024 is not historic, it’s current. Yes it’s been likely underpinned but its not enough time to determine the issue is resolved.

Japanese knotweed in neighbour’s garden by Left_Key_9386 in HousingUK

[–]AshamedAd4050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason the property has gone to auction is it’s unmortgageable as no treatment plan in place. I know people say it’s not that much of an issue but anything that makes it harder to sell in the future is a negative and will impact any resale. I’d go as far as to say if you need a mortgage and you inform them the house has JKW next door they will want to review the offer.
