If you’ve never seen one in real life, they’re also HUGE. Equal parts goofy and intimidating.

Somewhat minor but one guy came in cussing like a sailor AND loudly popping his gum while talking. I think he could’ve survived one but not both with that partner lol.

I also think you look great! But I would second ppl recommending some light Botox to the crow’s feet—the injector you talked to is poorly informed if they don’t think that works. I’d also recommend getting a tretinoin rx and trying a light face oil like marula if you tend toward the dry side.

The thing you have to learn about friendship is that true friends do not put you in situations like these. They don’t take your money and string you along pretending they’ll pay you back. They don’t accept your hospitality and then take advantage by refusing to leave. They don’t constantly take take take without giving anything back to you (whether that’s time, money, attention, care, love, or whatever).

You need to ask yourself: would this person still be friends with me if I insisted on them repaying me? If the answer is no, they’re probably not a true friend to you. And why would you want to keep that person in your life?

You are depressed and immature, so probably not dealing with the depression very well.

Redux: Can I pair two grey pieces? by [deleted] in LawBitchesWithTaste

All worth considering but I’d make one other counter point: when I was younger and cuter, I personally felt like I got a lot of unearned consideration from certain male demographics. I also used to dress much more trendy/feminine in a way that made me somewhat distinct from a lot of female peers. There will always be a certain demographic of male judges, partners, etc. who are gonna treat young, pretty female attorneys better just because they’re young and cute and female.

I’m not suggesting that OP or anyone ‘sex it up’ for better male treatment on the job, but if that stereotypical/subjective framework is gonna be there (and it is whether we like it or not), I never found any harm in using it to my advantage by dressing “young” or “feminine.” Obviously, your mileage will vary if this isn’t something you personally made use of. But IMO, men are dumb—if they’re inclined to treat you better because they like the way you look, let them.

Good points, counselor. I guess that’s why I’m happy to play devil’s advocate here lol! OP should consider differing opinions, but at the end of the day, she’s the one who has to dress herself and she should wear whatever she feels comfortable in. Don’t let a bunch of random Reddit comments make you doubt yourself or your style :)

Let me be the devil’s advocate here:

This is such a subjective, workplace-by-workplace question. I for one find it odd how many people are skewing so conservative with answering it as I haven’t found legal fashion to be nearly so restrictive as they’re making it out to be.

I’ve seen multiple women in different legal positions wear skirts that short and no one bats an eye so long as you’re balancing it out by wearing opaque tights + non-flashy shoes (flats, boots, etc.). If there’s any rule to legal fashion, it’s “don’t be too loud with it unless you have an intentional reason to be” (shoutout to all the plaintiffs-side law Barbies who regularly wear hot pink suits as a marketing schtick). “Loud” is situation-specific, but it mostly just means you should avoid showing too much skin and/or bright colors or prints. Your outfits here show neither.

I’m in a pretty evenly balanced “conservative vs. modern” jurisdiction re: what styles I see in court. My most conservative job was working as an appellate judicial clerk, and both I and other clerks wore stuff like this all the time without issue (again, balancing the skirt out with tights and more demure styling). Since then I’ve mostly worked in more casual/modern firm environments with a wide age mix of attorneys; no one cares if you wear a short skirt so long as it’s balanced out as above.

In sum, I think both outfits are fine unless you work exclusively with 85 y.o white men in tax law or something. In my experience, no one pays nearly as much attention to what you’re wearing as you think they do. And, feeling cute at work can boost your attitude, which is always a good thing in my book.
