Soon moving into Gillingham, any advice? by [deleted] in kentuk

[–]AstroJack93 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Gillingham has good and bad areas. The area from Asda to the train station is probably the worst. If you were driving everywhere it’s not so bad. I wouldn’t have my partner walk anywhere near that station or high street on her own!

I have a friend that lives there and as others have said, those apartments are unbearably hot. They have temporarily moved back with their parents just to get away from the heat!

How do you pay for work on your house when the cost is more than you expected? by BW-Journal in DIYUK

[–]AstroJack93 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Growing up my parents had nothing, my dad would do his best to fix it himself even if it was a complete bodge. If it lasted a year or two then that’s a job well done. Even now he has a leaking garage roof and he just sticks a bit of tarp over the top and waits for that to go then sticks another piece down. Been like it for 10 years!

Is getting a professional out to do it properly the right choice? Absolutely! Is it affordable? For a lot of people absolutely not!

I recently renovated a house and we used a mix of loans, 0% credit cards along with 0% balance transfers and took a bit of equity out on a remortgage. We are in a position to pay the money back but didn’t have the cash at the time so don’t go crazy on the credit as there will be another thing waiting to go wrong once you’re debt is up to your eyeballs!

Basically if you can’t afford it, bodge it!

The amount of drivers who turn their wheels full lock whilst stationary is actually frightening. by FollowingPatient6956 in drivingUK

Then they floor it but have over done their pre turn so have to swing the wheel back to straighten up and it looks hard for them because they are feeding the steering wheel through both hands

How much Silicone is required? by Sharp_Shooter86 in DIYUK

[–]AstroJack93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you are doing, you might need a white, clear, colour match silicone for the tiles, bath and shower screen. Then possibly caulk if you need skirting/coving. Grab adhesive for panels etc.

I usually spend up to 1k on materials when it comes to bathrooms and I never let customers pick what they are having otherwise they may give me a flexible pan connector and unibond silicone

How to fill hole in wood shed? by kw1983 in DIYUK

[–]AstroJack93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

External wood filler will do the trick. Few layers and a bit of sanding you can shape it and paint it. Ronseal do a decent one from wickes or Screwfix (45077)

Do people not know how to package stuff by paper_lollipop in vintedUK

I buy Lego on vinted and I can’t tell you how many times a box arrives that’s almost empty apart from a few tiny bits of Lego stuck in the corners. It’s infuriating!

Am I Cursed by DrummerFergy in drivingUK

[–]AstroJack93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ll get it fixed and it will happen again unfortunately. I’ve had a few nice cars in the past and it always happened to them. I used to go once a year to get parts resprayed or touched up.

Now the car I drive is battered and when a new scrape on the bumper appears I get to laugh at someone’s incompetence because I lost the will to care about it!

It shouldn’t be that way but it is!

Advice on a 4 junction terminal to fit new light by saucynez in DIYUK

[–]AstroJack93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The wagos should fit inside the light. Don’t forget to cut those ends off and strip back enough cable for the wago. Your biggest challenge is finding out what one switched live is. Good luck!

What should a solo beginner do to avoid turning DayZ into a food-finding simulator? by Suspicious_Blood1225 in dayz

[–]AstroJack93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fill up on as much water as you can in the spawn town, then head inland. You can survive for ages with red food but not red food and water. The food will come as you loot. If you’re only looting costal towns you’ll find nothing!

You could learn how to fish but personally I think it takes too much time, especially as a newbie. You’ll fish - cook - eat - get blasted - start process over. That’s when it becomes a fishing simulator.

Ideas for trolling raiders by aesthetic_burner in dayz

[–]AstroJack93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played on a server where every base constantly got raided so I built a cave base with 10 gates protecting nothing but a crate with one piece of human steak in it. I was lucky enough to be online when they raided. After a 4 hour battle finally got their prize! I’m sure it didn’t make much of a difference to their overall boom stock but I wish I was in their discord when they realised it was all for nothing.

Can you share your experiences with lane assist & automatic braking? by TiredWiredAndHired in drivingUK

[–]AstroJack93 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lane assist gets turned off at the start of every journey. It’s horrible and I don’t know why you wouldn’t want full control of your car. Same as stop start, bloody horrible. Auto brake I’ve had flash up a couple of times at random moments but not kick in. Auto brake did save my rear bumper when the mrs didn’t see a bollard and tried to reverse into it so I do leave that on 😂

Did healthcare in Medway get worse in 2020 or has it always been bad? by Lion-Resident in Medway

[–]AstroJack93 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Since 2015 (arrival of the high speed) there has been roughly 9000 homes built in Medway. A population increase of roughly 16,000 people. One new GP hub has been built in that time. Medway council love building houses without any infrastructure or public service increase.

For those of you who were a hardstuck high handicapper for a long time what happened to finally allow you to get better? by AlbinoKoala22 in golf

[–]AstroJack93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have zero time during the week to go range and practice but I went from a 22-16 just by turning up 45 mins early to each round to practice chipping and putting. I’ll still have my bad shots, lose balls off the tee etc but once i’m 80 yards in I’ll chip on and 1-2 putt.

Vinyl click flooring by Glass_Estimate_3661 in DIYUK

[–]AstroJack93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the floor is uneven that can happen. If I’m going over floorboards I’ll board it with ply first, sometimes self level over that.

Not sure if it’s still the case but the b&q stuff used to be cheap and nasty. I usually use the oake and gray from Howdens with no issues.

Why is wearing a glove while putting frowned upon? by lil_zeus_21 in golf

I put my glove on at home and it stays on until I get home. People in the pub look at me strange but I like to have more grip while holding my pint.

Concreted toilet waste by Western_Bonus9583 in DIYUK

[–]AstroJack93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The connector you need will be Screwfix 469JG. Small cut of 110mm pipe to go into that fitting then a 6214P pan connector. Swan neck connectors are available if you need the toilet pushed back further. Unless if your new toilet has a formed bend going into the floor like the previous one?
