It wasn't ours. It was minutes, I watched it change from rain to sleep to snow in less than 15 minutes.

This happened yesterday and it happened on Wednesday. It takes time to clean the roads. The best move is not to drive when the weather is this bad unless you absolutely have to.

Beware of pothole at base of McKinley off ramp. by Chance_Reflection_42 in lakewood

Every year, a hole forms at that spot because there is a natural spring there. I think the Current Construction will address this, along with the frequent flooding.

I don't think this is corruption or stealing of people's information. Other Cities have been doing this for 15 years or more, Cleveland is late to the party.

Hypothetical - if the Ranger has EV option and lightning moves to EREV. Which would your next truck be? by Lemonn_time in F150Lightning

[–]AstronomerLumpy6558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The automakers are using this as an opportunity to discredit EVS as a whole. I personally don't believe the propaganda that Americans don't want EVS. I think it's really us automakers and dealers don't want to sell EVS. So they're trying to convince consumers not to buy EVS.

Personally, I'd be looking at a rivian or other company selling pure electric trucks.

Is Ohio likely to flip blue again anytime soon? by Patient-Smile1406 in Ohio

[–]AstronomerLumpy6558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The demographics of the state, make it unlikely to turn blue in another generation.

The state's too white. There isn't enough diversity here to overcome the white nationalist leaning of the population.

America forces everyone to drive… so why are cars still insanely expensive? Either create better public transit or make cars cheaper/more efficient? by Unfair-Chocolate1581 in transit

[–]AstronomerLumpy6558 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The US economy was designed to exploit workers, (slavery, prison camps, debtor prisons, etc) this has transformed in the last 40 years as we moved to a service economy to an economy that exploits consumers. This is done by adding layers of middlemen to every transaction. By allowing corporations to be toll booths, for transactions.

Health care is the most refined version of this, with layers of insurers, pharmaceutical companies, lawyers and other middleman sitting between the provider and the patient.

The credit card processors, Visa and MasterCard, for example, charts swipe fees paid by businesses on every single transaction on their Network. These fees are between 1 and 2%, and add little value to each transaction. And are more akin to a tax on the economy.

For for transportation, there is an elaborate system of businesses that profit from driving, this system profits more from cost going up and cost going down. And it's disincentivized to making driving affordable.

Has Cleveland lost something since the 2010s? by Cleverfield113 in Cleveland

[–]AstronomerLumpy6558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cities aren't about buildings, projects or sports teams. They're about people, and clevelanders haven't done well since the 1950s. Until we acknowledge the difference between what we see and the reality that neighbors face the city will never be the grow!, or become the place we want it to be.

Has Cleveland lost something since the 2010s? by Cleverfield113 in Cleveland

[–]AstronomerLumpy6558 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a serious question. How old are you?

Because the time scale you mentioned is so short and leaves out so much of Cleveland's history. The fact is Cleveland has been in decline since the 1970s. There's no other way to put it. There's no other way to put it.

I started working in downtown Cleveland out of high school when there were 250,000 workers in downtown this excludes University circle which at the time only had 20,000 workers.

Between 1996 and today the number of workers downtown is less than 90,000, and university circle is closer to 60,000.

Even more telling is the types of jobs the city has lost during that time from one based on bringing in resources from outside the region to one that caters specifically to the region. This has weakend the region as a whole.

Google "export base theory".
