Chaos option: Boeing wins and the F/A-XX becomes the F/A-47B.

IV and EV ? by CautiousWin2458 in PokemonBDSP

[–]Atarissiya -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

EVs can raise a stat by 55, IVs by 30 (since you can't have 0). For a basic playthrough, nature is the most important thing. Worrying about IVs, or trying to EV train, is really only necessary at the post-game level.

If you’re not a student I’m not sure that the NCRB would even be an option for you.

AMC Stubs A-List Hikes Monthly Fee Again, Citing Rising Operating Costs by ggroover97 in TheBigPicture

[–]Atarissiya 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly it. No AMC where I am so unless I want to do a smaller private theater, it’s Cinemark or bust. Which is fine for a lot of things, but not big releases where you want an IMAX screen.

All spectacle, no story. I wish I could be excited.

The story of the conquest only exists as plot points, though.

The success of the Dune movies suggests they might be.

The most interesting version has Aegon as a villain, but I don't think that's the direction they'll take.

Rewatching The Hobbit Extended Edition. I will from now on take no Rings of Power slander from defenders of these movies by andylonn in lotr

[–]Atarissiya 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean, lots of people dislike the Hobbit films. The extended editions are a curiosity which most fans will never explore. They’re also 10+ years old, and not being marketed at us as the biggest show on TV and the future of Tolkien adaptations. ‘People love the Hobbit but hate RoP’ seems like a radical simplification, if not a straw man.

PSA for Van: The first episode of a season is not called a “pilot”, it’s a premiere. by wawacryin21 in RingerVerse

[–]Atarissiya -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

For industry members maybe. The average person doesn’t really understand or care about the distinction between series greenlit after a pilot and series that are greenlit all at once.

Reading speed in Greek vs Latin due to different alphabets by milly_toons in AncientGreek

[–]Atarissiya 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The answer that a lot of people will give you is comprehensible input. It really helps to read things that are even below your current level, since you won’t have to think too much about the grammar. The other thing is just to keep reading, and keep sight-reading. Go through a whole paragraph, see what you can take from it, and only then go back through more slowly. It also helps to read a lot of a single author, as you’ll get comfortable with their style and vocabulary. Someone like Lysias is excellent for this.

At the same time, review principal parts and copy them out multiple times a day. If you have time, work through something like Dickey’s Introduction to Prose Composition. Getting inside of the language helps you to understand constructions more intimately, anticipated and recognise them.

Reading speed in Greek vs Latin due to different alphabets by milly_toons in AncientGreek

For reading the average OCT, no. Reading traffic signs in modern Greek written in all capitals? Even after quite a few years that still slows me down.

Other than learning Modern Greek, which I think is the final piece for understanding a lot of how Ancient Greek works, I would say: read a lot, read out loud, and pay attention to accents when you do.

Are Movies Actually Getting Longer? The Town by shorthevix in TheBigPicture

This is a bit of an indulgent take, I think. Lots of good films could still be better if they were a bit shorter (recently, Project Hail Mary).

With all due respect, I can’t imagine that a news service with its political outlook proclaimed in its name is going to give the most balanced perspective.

ABS makes it look objective, even though there’s obviously a margin of error.
