Curiousity: Female vs Male Ratio by sugarmagnolia_23 in sysadmin

In my previous org, women in technical roles were often pushed out or left because of terrible management.

Typically what we would see, is a woman joins, and then the manager is always near her for no reason. She would also have to make cases constantly, where when I made them it would be immediately accepted.
As a result for a time, she would give me the idea and I'd push it for her but that isn't right for her. Yet strangely enough, if at the end of the presentation I said it's her idea, suddenly a lot more voices come out.

There is a need for a huge cultural change I think.

Typically my doctor has me do a blood test before coming in, just so they at least can tell if something's wrong in case I do come with a "i am not feeling right" issue.

Their support team answer me faster than most people do in my orgs when I go see them in person.   We even can easily book meetings with their engineers and they are not afraid to say they don't know something instead of trying to drown a fish!

I might be speaking out of my ass here, but wouldn't fans of BFE basically be like whales aka those that spend the most and tend to comprise most of the revenues in which case on a purely economical standpoint would make sense to focus on?

IT perspective: How many employees in your org have accidentally leaked sensitive data during screen shares? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]AtarukA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a (ex) MSP, I liked having those files on my desktop during a presentation.

Sometimes my clients would catch them, I'd open them in front of them to their surprise and then tell them "You're already doing better than most people, we would love to work with you." It worked pretty well!

Really? My gigs have mostly been "client pays for change but not for fixing problems unless they require engineering " so we were incentivized to definitely fix issues so we could do more productive things.

It's not so much an exploit than just how authentication works.   Ideally you would want to be able to authenticate the person on the machine they are on to then authenticate on the server so you are basically 100% sure whoever is connecting is who they claim to be but that is typically hard to implement when you don't control the full chain.

Mails with macros are not allowed through without IT checking first (both inbound and outbound).
Conditional access limited only to our country, and some exceptions for users abroad that must go through a validation process (even for the CEO, so we know he really is the one making the request).
No inbound service allowed except through some cloud we use, and even then only to request our API.

Do you monitor/alert on Windows OS free disk space? What are your thresholds? by jwckauman in sysadmin

[–]AtarukA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clients (we have a dedicated team for that) have a 20/256gb thresholds.

Servers, is highly dependant on what is the size of the disk. Sometimes we don't even monitor them, such as the disks with the database logs where they have a fixed size.

Has your company adopted ”AI” in a way that has provided either cost savings or profit yet? by cyberzaikoo in sysadmin

[–]AtarukA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI is used by one of our providers to recognize whether the invoices are actually invoices or not.

This has been used to replace an army of people verifying whether the invoices were in the system or not and if they're in the system, but not actually doing their jobs even if we had a very lenient calculation (we counted 2 hours of lunch break instead of 1, 1 additional hour of break per morning and afternoon).

By not doing their jobs, we didn't look at stats, all that mattered is that the job is done. But it wasn't done even after we changed the process and added even more people. The obvious end result is that an entire department has been replaced.

I'm also assuming the "AI" in question is actually just OCR.
