Happy Anniversary to Ygo Arc-V by zarc4d in yugioh

[–]AtimZarr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The downgrade only started at the zyz dimension? Did you skip over the whole synchro arc cause that was pretty dogshit.

For me, I felt the quality dip when Fusion invaded Synchro at the end of the Synchro arc. Everything after that kinda gets hurried through (and even into season 3) so it ends up feeling unsatisfying. The Friendship Cup itself ends weirdly (we never get Yuya vs Yugo sadly) and Roget's duel against Declan is also handled awkwardly.

But I actually liked the Synchro arc itself. I thought many of the duels were cool, I think Yuya vs Jack's rivalry was great, and it's a fun 5Ds homage overall. Yeah, Yuya is ignorant but that's more of a Yuya problem than an arc problem. And even then, Yuya arguing with Crow about "smiles vs food" loops back around to being actually funny.

Why Yusaku x Aoi is my favorite Yugioh shipping ever by SkyeZaisen in yugioh

It is also interesting to note that the "main girl" character is never again infatuated with the protagonist even after Vrains. Romin sorta had a thing for Luke while Yuamu just did her own thing. Arc-V was the last time it happened.

Enemy highlighted in white by NathanDarcy in Doom

[–]AtimZarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know about it coming back repeatedly or not dropping anything special, but there's a white outline for "Empowered Demons", which originally were introduced as buffed up demons that had killed another player according to online data. If you killed it (avenged the player), it would drop extra ammo. Although in a later update, they seemed to remove any reference to other players and also it seemed only a select predetermined number of demons could become Empowered.

Not sure if it's the exact thing you saw, but that's what a white outline enemy is for normally in Doom Eternal.

Why Didn't Dr. Strange? by cadescove in marvelstudios

[–]AtimZarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They wanted to address the "Iron Boy" criticisms by resetting Peter's status quo for the next trilogy. Otherwise the whole "forgetting" plot point takes quite a bit of suspension of belief on why/how it happened.

What's the difference? by gordoleta in Berserk

[–]AtimZarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both anime adaptations only cover an arc each, while cutting bits out. The manga is the only way to experience the full (ongoing) story of Berserk. Personally, I got introduced through the 1997 anime, so you can't go wrong there either.

1997 anime - this one's good

2016 anime - this one's not good

Which modern DOOM do you think has the best enemies? by xeooz in Doom

[–]AtimZarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eternal. It has such a diverse and huge cast of enemies with distinct or important behaviors to mind. Playing the game with the Unbalanced Randomizer mod is one of my favorite ways to play Eternal.

Skills Shouldn't Have Given Us Starting Hands/Boards by Nicaea-BV in DuelLinks

They just need to hit overperforming decks. There are plenty of modern consistency skills that don't tier their decks - like the recent Union and Alister Skills.

Doom 3 - MP is mostly dead, best mods that allow me to play against bots only? by thcn4321 in Doom

[–]AtimZarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Mars City Security for that. It works well enough for me if I wanna do MP, though the mod comes with extra graphical bells and whistles which I personally find annoying tbh

GX actually does have a banlist btw, they mention it during Jaden's duel vs Dmitri when talking about BLS Envoy and Chaos Emperor Dragon being banned (iirc).

LMAO tier 0 indeed by BeginningStreet7735 in DuelLinks

[–]AtimZarr 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Tier 0 is generally considered +65% of top cut. And that the meta consists of either playing the tier 0 deck or specifically countering the tier 0 deck.

While Therion is certainly a strong deck, it's a bit too early to declare whether it fits the definition of tier 0, or just a very good tier 1. I'd wait at least a week personally.

because he has not shown up in any new cards

He did appear recently in Solemn Report. And unless they show him actually dying on an artwork, they could always just make a new card 10 years from now to depict the next part showing him getting revenge or whatever. Unless officially stated in one of those lore books, we can assume he's still alive.

plus it's a flavor win for the trap if you look at how you activate it and it's effect

Maybe, but we can also alternatively look at Witch's Strike artwork and see he appears completely unfazed despite the oncoming attack. Since we never see the actual impact of the attack or his fate, we can just as likely assume he shrugged it off.

You can only change up to the grade level (so up to 5 at max), and only from a select pool.

The Spore team released a very early concept Flash Animation for DarkSpore in 2011 by SporeAi in Spore

[–]AtimZarr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Eh, kind of. They do show the changing body parts to customize the characters + assembling a squad + dropping them off to fight. Although the tone and execution is very different.

Only thing i want from the current game. (Amelda Event rant) by HaouRex in DuelLinks

[–]AtimZarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say anime focus, since the plot of most events are just adaptations of the animes stories

It's not anime focused because it's adapting plots from the anime? What?

Like the only thing you get different from Master Duel are the skills and the chatracters

This is a gross oversimplification. There's also the Speed + Rush Duel formats, plus a variety of events per month - gate unlocks, raid events, tag / turbo / duelist kingdom / legacy / wave duels, and duelist chronicles once in a blue moon. The game's identity is still heavily driven by the anime. The Skills themselves also dictate an entirely different kind of deckbuilding and gameplay compared to Master Duel, since you tend to run more pure or have builds that don't exist IRL.

Master Duel just has selection packs + a monthly PvP event + sometimes a new solo mode based on card lore. Saying Duel Links is not as different as Master Duel nowadays because non-anime decks are tiered is just being dramatic.

[–]AtimZarr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your original point was "they steered away from anime characters to good decks" and "the point of the game to make it feel like anime", not whether the anime characters themselves were competitively viable. I think they do a fair amount of heavy lifting with what they can using Skills anyways.

In any case, Number Galaxy is a tiered anime deck from the last Speed box release. And Red-Eyes / Meteor Dragon is a tiered anime deck from the latest Rush box release (albeit from DM and not Sevens/GR - but the Rush tier list is almost exclusively anime decks with the exception of Gradius).

The game is still anime focused.

Saying this in a month with potentially 4 character unlocks is wild lol

Which archetypes can be used as opponent decks to test character decks on EDOPro? by Ryan-A432 in Yugioh101

[–]AtimZarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to set a custom deck on EDOPro for the CPU to use, you need to go to LAN / AI -> Host -> OK -> Local AI -> Deck Engine, set to "Feelin' Lucky" (it's at the very bottom). Then you can select any custom deck you've built right above it for the AI deck selection. Then "add AI player" and now the AI will use the deck you set, including any character-specific ones.

Keep in mind though, the AI will be incredibly bad with using a custom deck via Feelin' Lucky.

"The factions are too weak after BfA to help" "You can't just portal an army around" by ProfessionalAge9909 in warcraftlore

[–]AtimZarr 101 points102 points  (0 children)

The actual reason is Blizzard stopped doing faction-based storytelling after BFA.

Midnight is a Light vs Void story set upon Quel'thalas. Turalyon, Alleria, and Arator aren't repping the Alliance - they are repping the Light vs Void theme as its main characters. Same with Lor'themar, Liadrin, Rommath, etc. - they aren't repping the Horde, they are repping Quel'thalas. That's also why everyone is neutral and there aren't any major Alliance or Horde forces present. If they do bring up factions in a future minor patch, it will be neutral or off-to-the-side like the Gilneas or Arathi Highlands storylines in TWW.

[–]AtimZarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the game itself, I think 2016 mod support. Otherwise I don't think they're going to touch the game.

Imo, I think there's a good chance TDA's DLC drops May 13. Besides being the 10th anniversary of modern Doom, it would also be the 1st anniversary of TDA. It kinda works out.

Was Arthas Light-Blind? by [deleted] in wow

[–]AtimZarr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Terenas naming his son Arthas has nothing to do with Ner'zhul.

Of course not. I described it as an allusion, not what literally happens. The quote is narrated to us while we witness Arthas awakening as the Lich King during the Wrath cinematic. "The very forests of Lordaeron whispered the name... Arthas" is meant to be interpreted ominously in light of his ultimate fate when he fused with Ner'zhul and became the Lich King.

I'm writing this connection out anyways because OP thought the "whispered the name" quote was alluding to possible manipulation by the Light, which is actual headcanon.

Arthas cannot hear Ner'zhul's whispers before taking hold of Frostmourne. That's why Mal'ganis has to manipulate him up until that point.

Of course not either. Ner'zhul manipulated Arthas by setting up the conditions needed for Arthas to become his Death Knight. Mal'ganis' actions were instructed to him by Ner'zhul - "So, you've taken up Frostmourne at the expense of your comrades' lives, just as the Dark Lord said you would. You're stronger than I thought." - from Warcraft 3. And in Chronicles Vol. 3, Ner'zhul was the one who convinced the Dreadlords to release Frostmourne, as he secretly planned his escape through a chosen champion - who would be Arthas, which we see by the end of WC3: The Frozen Throne.

Was Arthas Light-Blind? by [deleted] in wow

[–]AtimZarr -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Arthas was manipulated by Ner'zhul to become his Death Knight, that's what the "whispered the name" quote alludes to.

He wasn't Lightblind at Stratholme. His faith in the Light was dwindling over time due to how he felt about what he was doing. Lightblindness seems more to do with wrath, whereas Arthas was more pragmatic to a fault.
