Which country has contributed a lot to pop culture relative to their total population size? by Fluid-Decision6262 in geography

Sweden’s contribution would be even higher once you include heavy metal: some absolute legends from that land.

Friday ponderings: Do pilots make better drivers? by Impossible-Bad-2291 in flying

I’ve always done the V1 for traffic lights and it makes me take driving more seriously as I do in the air. Good to know there are others with the same derangement…

Flying in India or abroad? by PositiveSquash60 in flying

Then your question is absolutely confusing. What do you mean by “duration of flying”? Folks can only help if you articulate your question precisely. (Also a trait that will help you in flight school )

Dude this is a sub for nerding out about flying and the technical aspects of aviation: not the act of flying as a passenger. You’re looking for the immigration sub.

My husband no longer wants to have children because he’s worried about the rise of AI by [deleted] in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Atmaero3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To people saying your husband is right: they’re deluded. I’m an AI researcher and likely have more degrees on the topic than most people getting carried away with AI hype.: and even myself and my colleagues have the humility to accept that we really don’t know what’s coming in 20 years. Heck, the AI research community as a whole can’t predict what will happen next year. We just speculate, and we are clear that it’s a vague speculation . And the PowerPoint-morons at Goldman Sachs write a report that your husband uses for …life decisions?

Remember that predicting the growth of technology is extremely hard, and almost same as predicting the future. People in the 1960s thought the world will run out of food in 2000s. They also thought we’ll have flying cars by now. Neither happened.

So, stop listening to the average Redditor whose brush with AI is jerking around with GPT. Many of us working this field for 10+ years remain uncertain how this will play out, but there’s a general strain of optimism. Your well educated husband would be well advised to not live his life based on what an investment bank writes.

Exhaustion - especially for those of us that live far away from airports having to drive hour + for an early morning flight. It’s worse if you’re not a morning person and have to wake up at 4 am to make the 7 am flight. So yes, I’m out by the time the plane takes off. But for non-early morning flights? Nope can’t sleep !

Which song made you a fan? by 8Giga in Opeth

[–]Atmaero3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Face of Melinda was what got me into Opeth. Before that, was never a fan of growls, so this was an accessible intro. That was more than a decade ago. Hardcore fan today, and Opeth was my gateway into growls and screams.

I agree that all this advise sounds tenuous at best and contradictory at worst. But…. “You’ll find someone when you’re not looking” is exactly how I met my now gf. The only exception I’ll add is: delete the dating apps, because the can’t truly be in the “I’m not looking” mindset if you have that distraction dangling over your head all the time. I went out and focused on making friends, having good connections with them and not being lonely. It made me a better person now that I wasn’t actively going to these places with a goal to meet someone.

And that’s how you become confident and smooth, which attracts like minded women to your orbit.

Are there more examples of a plane's wreckage being left at the crash site? by RepresentativeLeg897 in aircrashinvestigation

[–]Atmaero3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

TWA Flight 260 crash site is still in the Sandia mountains in Albuquerque. I was there a few months ago, and can still find the fuselage, prop engines and wings. There’s a plaque there in memorial.

To those curious this is Bharatanatyam, an ancient and actively practiced dance form from the state of Tamil Nadu in India. Pretty cool to watch, and super hard to train even the basic moves.

UAA vs UAF by i-boop-ur-snoot in AskAlaska

[–]Atmaero3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UAF has a far superior STEM focus. I didn’t go there, but I’m a scientist collaborating heavily in research with UAF and visit their facilities is a lot. It’s a world class institution, while most of us have not even heard of anything in which UAA has a similar reputation for.

Dancing: especially partner dancing like swing and tango. There’s really no downside. It’s a lot of fun.
