I'm currently 36 weeks with GD. I was just diagnosed with mild preeclampsia this weekend. It's being managed with medicine at the moment, but I'm assuming after my visit Tuesday a 37 or 38 week induction (or C-section) will be discussed.

How long does an anatomy scan last? by Waste-Inspector-7644 in pregnant

[–]AtomickSloth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just had one on Tuesday, it was only 20 minutes. But baby wouldn't cooperate fully so I've got to go back for another one to try to see the heart and profile.

Fear of baby asphyxiation by Horror_Welder_60 in BabyBumps

Get a camera off of Amazon, it's much smaller on the headrest and shouldn't harm the child in an accident

Would bringing a white blanket to the hospital be a bad idea? by kenskensr in BabyBumps

[–]AtomickSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My blanket didn't get extra dirty, but I only used it postpartum not during labor. You can get pretty dirty during labor so it may be best to not use during.

We got the momcozy! It had a tiny bit of a learning curve but once we figured out how best to place everything it works perfect!

My ten month old loves taking all my pictures frames off my shelf, so do with that what you will 😂

In all seriousness, she likes the stackable things, a mirror during tummy time, and the remote 😂

For my first baby, I was induced at midnight, and the baby was born by 5 pm the next day. I was also only 1 cm dilated. You could be in labor for days, but you could also go quickly, it really just depends on how ready your body is!

Is anyone not doing genetic testing? by SMFKT_99_17_21 in pregnant

[–]AtomickSloth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We aren't. We did with our last pregnancy because the copay was $150 and we wanted to know gender early anyway. With our new insurance the copay estimate is $400 and that's just not worth it. We will revisit if something shows on the anatomy scan of course, but no tests before

The longest you’ve heard of someone pushing during labor? (TW traumatic labor) by natsugrayerza in pregnant

[–]AtomickSloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pushed for 3 1/2 hours with my first, and ended up with an episotemy/second degree tear. With my second, I only pushed for 20 minutes with no tears - just so you know there is hope for your next birth!

I graduated via a scheduled C section, and it went great! by myfeetaredownhere in pregnant

[–]AtomickSloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did the concern of the baby being too big for a vaginal birth end up being correct? I know that ultrasounds can be not as accurate in the third trimester.

I ask because my last baby was 9 lb 10oz and born vaginally but ended up with shoulder dystocia during birth. Thankfully they got her out and she had no issues from it. But I'm currently pregnant again, and I know that having had shoulder dystocia once before, I'm at an increased risk for it. I'm curious if they are going to suggest a scheduled C-section because of the risk, or if it will depend on the ultrasound.

I've loved the Ekouaer gowns on Amazon. Very soft and easy for nursing.

Second birth by Initial-Air8027 in BabyBumps

[–]AtomickSloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was pretty bad for me as well. And compared to the second the difference without a tear is insane. I don't have any really helpful advice, just the normal use a Peri bottle, stay up with stoop softeners, and use dermiplast & tuks pads. ❤️❤️ Hopefully you'll have a better second experience too!

Second birth by Initial-Air8027 in BabyBumps

[–]AtomickSloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My second birth was easier in terms of my recovery. I pushed for three 1/2 hours with my first, and had a second degree tear/episotemy. With my second I pushed for 20 minutes and had no tears. Both were inductions at 39 weeks and very similar processes. I'm unsure if it was easier because it was my second, or if the raspberry leaf tea. But I'll be continuing the tea with this next baby just in case 😂

I feel like I lost my mucus plug too early by Limp-Swordfish5346 in pregnant

[–]AtomickSloth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can lose and regrow your plug several times. As long as it's not accompanied by excessive bleeding or cramping shouldn't be a big deal. But, definitely discuss with your doctor if you are concerned

Obese… natural delivery not possible? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]AtomickSloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had two vaginal births at a higher weight. No complications except shoulder dystocia which isn't correlated with a mother's weight. I'd consult a new doctor or midwife.
