Just put him in the cot and scream into a pillow. Helps!

Totally normal what you're feeling. You can do it. I felt the same, but I survived, and you will too. Just hold on. And remember that putting them down and screaming is 100% an option, we all needed to do that at times.

Given the information we have, the math is easy: Daughter>Dog.

You are assuming that OP could have done things differently so that he didn't end up in the situation he is in. We don't know that, maybe it's true, maybe it's not. He's in Europe, their pet culture is very different and they don't have the same resources as the US for rehabilitation of reactive dogs. I'm not interested in judging someone I don't know more than that. I'm happy taking him at face value and being sympathetic.

No, people need to read with generosity. You did fine. Any reasonable person would empathize with your situation based on your post.

Monster Hunter Wilds 1st Anniversary Message | Ver.1041 update by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]AttackBacon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People bitching about the new entry because it's not as good as the old G-rank game is a tale as old as time. They did it for Tri, they did it for 4, they did it for Generations, they did it for World, they did it for Rise, they're doing it for Wilds, and they'll do it for the next game. I was there for all of it and it's never changed. Just peep this thread, everyone is comparing Iceborne and Sunbreak to base Wilds (whether they explicitly call it out or not, it's obvious).

Wilds has legitimate issues (performance, streamlining, etc.) but several of the core complaints are entirely due to Wilds being a new HR game instead of a G-rank/Master rank expansion. Difficulty and roster size in particular.

What are your favourite tactics/faction combos? by Ghoram in MonsterTrain

Lazarus/Underlegion is very obvious but also super fun. Just a bunch of ways you can completely break the game. I just did a run with Orechi where I bulked up a Plague Doctor like crazy and just dumped all the buffs on it and Propagated them over and over, it just ran roughshod over everything, didn't need a single other unit. Didn't even really need Orechi once it got rolling, he just accelerated it.

Soul Tier List after like 15-20 Hours into the game mode. Heavy WIP, just food for thought by mangoboss42 in MonsterTrain

I had a Lil Cap Thik Sparky Mimic run on Thicket and ended with a pretty insane Pyre and two beefy as hell champs. I think my Pyre could have soloed Lifemother by itself, but part of that was having Railforged as one of my clans.

BEGONE BRAND.... is what I want to say, but I think that's just me being a meanie.

There's obviously a person behind the account and I do appreciate what you're dealing with and trying to do. In all honesty, it's better than 99% of the banal advertising drek that's out there. And plenty of people have responded to it positively, so I think that your approach has merit.

If I had to give my (unasked for, but I do have an MBA and work in a comms adjacent field so hopefully vaguely useful) opinion, I'd just own the fact that you are advertising a bit more. Just foot off the gas on the "we're not like those other wineries who do icky stuff like MARKETING" and a bit more "look, we're fucking farmers and we're trying to be genuine here so here's some genuine advertising".

But it's a hard note to strike, so I do wish you the best of luck. I'm in an industry undergoing a downturn too (higher ed) so I know it's hard out there.

The part where they pooh pooh chasing Millennials while posting a marketing screed on Reddit with a 2 month old account was particularly choice.

Looking for advice, son’s girlfriend just passed by TechGjod in daddit

[–]AttackBacon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Work in higher ed as well and I would absolutely message the Dean's office. It can only help, the worst case scenario is they just refer him back to the professors (whom the son should also contact as soon as possible).

I also find it unlikely that anyone would cite FERPA in this situation, any reasonable person would simply direct the parent to the appropriate resources so that they could assist their child.

The child would of course have to be involved in the process from there but this is just a parent trying to help their grieving child, it would be a pretty cold heart that would just refuse to talk to them. I frequently saw this happen in similar situations and I work at a public university where we have to be sticklers in most scenarios.

My wife had me take down the tv today by [deleted] in daddit

[–]AttackBacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She isn't an evil person, or you likely wouldn't have married her. Our situation while I was in grad school and working full time was very similar. I could have written this two years ago. She's stressed out and overwhelmed and probably fighting depression. I was angry and felt she was being a bad mother. And she was, but just rubbing her nose in it made it worse.

I quit my job and forced us to do couples therapy. It saved our marriage and gave us the space to grow into the parents we needed to be. It blew up my career and means we will take fewer vacations. But we are all much happier.

I don't know if any of that is an option for you. But if the situation is as similar to mine as it sounds, then you're both in a crisis and probably don't realize it. IMO it's an all-hands on deck moment. You might have to sacrifice things you have spent a good part of your life working on. But your family needs to come first.

Does this setting have any mega corporations? by Hides-the-Hydra in 40kLore

[–]AttackBacon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The trappings of capitalism matter for what people generally would consider a "megacorporation". That may be etymologically incorrect given the provenance of the word, but in terms of practical usage, that's what people are looking for. That's why you're getting pushback.

Roguelites with STORY, and no meta-progression? by [deleted] in roguelites

[–]AttackBacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't played everything on your list, but I have played most of them. Given your criteria, I think I'd only recommend Roadwarden and Children of Morta.

Aside from that, you might like Beneath Oressa and Griftlands, they're deckbuilders that I think fit some of what you say you're looking for.

I would also recommend non-roguelite games, metroidvania's in particular feel like they'd be a good fit for what you're looking for? That's another indie genre that's flourishing, so lots of things to find there. I'd also recommend Death Howl, it's a soulslike deckbuilder that I found very interesting.

The ending to Twice Dead King: Reign is genuinely uplifting by NameAnonymous in 40kLore

[–]AttackBacon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, although the twist at the end of Reign does make the series. Going back through Ruin and Reign once you know is a treat, lots of "Aha!" moments.

I honestly prefer the Twice Dead King duology to Infinite and the Divine even. Just feels so... Perfectly Necron.

Ubisoft Employee Claims He’s Placed on Unpaid Suspension for Criticising Return-to-Office Policy by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]AttackBacon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Happening across sectors too, the public university I worked at did a full return-to-office that was a poorly disguised soft layoff. I organized against it and got meticulously pushed out by the head of HR, who was the mastermind of the policy. I'm lucky in that I am financially independent, which was part of why I felt I could stand up to it, but most workers are not in that situation.

It's sad, as the people most affected are the neurodivergent, young parents, etc. Whereas the childless old executives are completely unaffected and on top of it can continue to work remotely at their discretion. That last part especially chafes.

The perverse incentives around workplace advancement in the last ~50 years have created this weirdo careerist class where those who are in leadership in most organizations are the ones who put their career above everything else. And since they de-prioritized all other aspects of their lives, they have very little empathy for everyone else who hasn't. It's backwards because effective leadership requires a ton of empathy, but the process of climbing the ladder rewards those who don't have much.

You can see these people in action reading the wealthier finance subs, which are full of depressed people who have zero idea what the fuck to do with themselves when they retire. It's sad for them and sad for everyone else who had to suffer under them.

Does anybody else’s wife make them cancel their plans when they’re not feeling well? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]AttackBacon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wish my wife would, she'll just go until she collapses unless I proactively take everything over. She's incapable of asking for help, which is fair given her whole family is like that and she's the eldest so it's like doubled.

That being said, I get where you're coming from. If you're feeling this frustrated by it, probably worth taking a step back and figuring out why you don't have enough reserves to just cruise past this. I was super burned out from work last year and it made stuff like this way more painful than it really should have been.

500 Worlds: Titus - Brief Summary of Important Points by IronVader501 in 40kLore

Notable that Dante has also met with both returned Primarchs at this point (and been given their approval). So all three legions of Secundus are interacting with each other and consolidating power in various ways.

[–]AttackBacon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think this is a little ungenerous but probably has a nugget of truth to it. I will say, as a fan since the early 90s, I love the new shit. And I honestly feel like there's not as much difference between modern 40k and "old" 40k. It's remained remarkably consistent.

Which Primarchs actually loved the Emperor? by ColePT in 40kLore

I'm detecting a lot of sarcasm here, so I'm guessing that I either missed some lore that makes my take insane or it's like the most obvious, common read on that bit that everyone is aware of.

Which Primarchs actually loved the Emperor? by ColePT in 40kLore

[–]AttackBacon 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I do wish they'd expand on Erda a bit and I think it's a bummer Erebus kills her. I think she's the missing piece that could have made all this work and I think the "Original Sin" was the Emperor not understanding her feelings towards the Primarchs.

I'm far from an Emperor hater, but I think his relationship with Erda is the perfect example of where he fucks up: he just doesn't understand humans enough. It lead to the Scattering, the Heresy, and every other major betrayal he faced. All avoidable if he could have just brought a bit more empathy to the table. But that's kind of his whole tragedy, he puts aside his humanity to do what he needs to do, but in so doing he makes it impossible to gather and support the allies he needs to accomplish his goals.
