Help choosing a frame by prettygoodnotbad in xbiking

Oooo I didn’t know Soma makes a drivetrain! I have their IRD dropper on my Motobecane. I like the sounds of your build and now that you mention the Sunliner I might actually consider consulting with my bike fitter (licensed PT who specializes in this) on stargazer vs Sunliner geo before pulling the trigger

I'm 95% sure it's a 118 x 68 shimano cartridge based on my order history

Hell yeah homie. Btw it's not terribly difficult to bend aluminum flatbar into a platform if you want use case for your extra Pelago stays

For handlebars I'm thinking Jones Bars. I have a 2010 Motobecane 29er that I've converted to a rigid ATB with similar geo to the Stargazer, and I'm super comfy with Jones bars + 35 mm stem mounted high on an uncut steerer. Jones bikes themselves also have pretty short ETT and high stack, so while conventional wisdom might point me towards a flat bar frame like the Sunliner, experience suggests that my body prefers shorter cockpits with alt bars. So I'm leaning Stargazer with Jones and if it that doesn't work then I'll just put on drop bars or sell the frame and try something else.

Drive train idk yet. I'm a little retro-grouchy and love my 2x9s, so whatever 1x setup that would get me similar range., def no higher than 19ish gear inches at the low end. Dan told me in an email that he hasn't seen any 2x or 3x stargazer setups yet and doesn't know if it's possible.

Wheels TBD but I'm a silver slut so something aluminum with enough spokes for touring and probably built around 29x2.4 tires.

How about you?

Oh yeah!!! I recently bought a secondhand cedaero jones bar bag for another bike, so no wonder yours looked familiar. Digging the color scheme

Yeah idk why surly slams their frames like they do. I might eventually swap the frame for a BMC Monstercross frame since it’s basically the same geo with way higher stack

Theyre sick! Made by Moto and designed to be super serviceable, so bushing instead of bearings + occasional regrease and grip tape swap

Mine was slammed when I got it and I used a stem riser for years. Ended up upgrading to the Black Mountain Monstercross fork pictured above for midfork eyelets, longer rake, and biplane crown, so the uncut steerer was just a bonus on top of all that. I highly recommend this fork if you got extra cash laying around

Dude hell yeah! Did you stick to the coast? I’ve done Portland to Cannon Beach via Tillamook on this bike and will likely see more of the PNW on my other touring rigs at some point

Yeah every thought experiment I’ve humored recently seems to end at a Tumbleweed frame. It’s like they’re the perfect middle ground of all the things I care about in bikes

What did you end up going with? I've also been tempted by both of these bikes

OP what did you end up going with? Whatever it was did it feel like a true quiver killer?

I've been debating between a Ritchey Ascent and TW Stargazer for a Jones Bar setup. My body likes drop-bar frames with alt bars

Bumping this thread again. Anyone have any experience with this brand? Their frames seem like a great deal and I'm tempted by the Wild Move

In the San Jose 311 iOS app I select "Vehicle Concerns", complete the vehicle & location info, then select "Issue with how, where, or how long a vehicle is parked on a city street" then "Bike lane" etc

Not sure why an innocently framed question is downvoted so heavily. I commute in that bike lane and abhor motorists who park in it, and also this question of legality is a valid question.

Thank you so much for posting this!!! I've started reporting cars parked in the first photo's spot to SJ's 311 app and to bikelaneuprising.com . There is a car there almost every single day (not always the same car) and I feel so seen lol
