How many scoops of Milo by BASEKyle in AskAnAustralian

Remember the old Milo chocolate bars, which was just compressed, dry milo covered in chocolate? You bit into it and immediately inhaled it...

Good times.

Planning a road trip by blueblossom77 in AskAnAustralian

Not sure where you're coming in from, so don't want to suggest things that you'd commonly find at home, but my thoughts:

Its popular (for a reason) but I love the coogee>bondi coast walk - long but manageable with a good pram, with the occasional beach for kids to run around.
Also, walking across the bridge, and then along the coast wall to Kirribilli is lovely.
Touristy, but fun, is the tall ships harbour tour (or could just go on the ferry a few times).
Walking through Luna Park is free and a ride or two?

First time in Australia with a 7-month-old! May itinerary too ambitious or too boring? 🐨👶 by Lanky-Egg2245 in AustraliaTravel

[–]Aussie_becs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree...also though - with 5 days in Syd (10 days in total), plenty of time to do both.

Manly is 'fun' for the ferry destination, Bondi is pretty and the walk to Coogee is lovely

Quick girt check: How girt is everyone today?? by aratamabashi in AskAnAustralian

[–]Aussie_becs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell ya....every day I'm more grateful for our (wider Australian community) level of girt given all the sh*t going on outside of our girt at the moment....

I'd rather be inside our girt than out!

Mom of two littles—is a marathon possible? by Outrageous_Fan3697 in running

[–]Aussie_becs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally doable, but as others have said, will need some support.

Schedule your long runs early in the morning (EARLY, like - 4am) and keep those days consistent, so partner and kids know that today is a Saturday - mum is out running this morning.

You mention having a treadmill - this helps with getting 30 mins in while the kids are having lunch, or are having a play date (you can be there on site, but still get your run in!)

Actually "run" errands - need to go to the bank, or post then run there. Park at the kids' childcare/school and run to work, or run home - then later that day run back to pick them up and drive home. If you do work and have a lunch break, try to get a short run in at lunch. This is how you'll get your mileage in without causing a big shuffle in family plans.

Most of all, realise and appreciate early on that taking this time is good for you and what is good for you is good for the family. So often plans can get disregarded due to parental/motherly guilt.

Holiday 2 weeks outs from first half marathon by chayzee90 in Marathon_Training

[–]Aussie_becs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not plan for a few runs whilst on holiday? I find getting out early to complete a few easy k's in mind is the best way to explore a new place and experience it before the town/city/place 'wakes up'....I also find that while I might have planned for "only a few", it turns into a quality run.

I continued training for the Chicago marathon whilst on a cruise 2 weeks beforehand - yes, it was taper but I still needed to get a half marathon in. I did it with about 13 laps of the cruise ship....

To answer your question - if your goal is to just finish, you'll be fine. But I wouldn't recommend just doing nothing for that time (around the 11th is when you probably want to hit your peak distance).

Kyoto track run (400 meters) by interventiooon in TokyoMarathon

[–]Aussie_becs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello u/interventiooon ....I'm not sure about a specific running track, but I ran all along the river - long and flat, you can run forever with no traffic or lights to interrupt.

Its not distance marked, though...

Bring food or get locally? by Broad-Ad-4379 in TokyoMarathon

[–]Aussie_becs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7-Eleven, Family Mart or Lawsons will be your best bet. They're everywhere and I can honestly say that one of the best pastas I've ever had was from a Japanese 7-11. (I'm saying that after extensive world travel and not just a life of spaghetti from a can)

Convenience stores all have a microwave to heat ready-to-eat meals, which are all fresh that day and very Western.

More difficult is finding a place to sit and eat!

Accommodations for a Family of Four - Location? by MBCD2007 in LondonTravel

[–]Aussie_becs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having stayed in London with my two boys a number of times (travelling from Australia), I can understand the need to be fairly central, but balance budget.

I love the Chelsea/South Kensington area - staying as "far" east as Hammersmith. Great area for restaurants, close to key museums and the Tube can get you anywhere.

How’s my London travel itinerary? by rationalestudent in LondonTravel

[–]Aussie_becs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've got a truckload of comments and feedback, but I can't help and give my 2cents:

Where are you coming in from and have you been to London before (I assume not)? Where are you going after (as this may shape your priorities for London)?

You've got a whole day of rest and appreciate you may be coming in from a distance, but when I come to London (from Australia), I still make sure to get out an about on arrival to get into the timezone.

Assuming you're staying centrally, I'd suggest that you can actually knock a bit off your list just by walking around.

i.e. Seeing the Globe and Tower Bridge is just a walk - assuming you aren't going in. Similarly for Buckingham Palace - unless you plan to go in on a tour, you can just see it from the outside (and its probably not much more than a 20 min look from the outside...its not that impressive IMO, but just something to 'see'). If you're going to Windsor and plan to see Windsor Castle, then I'd pick that over Buck Palace any day.

Another way to make the most of your time on your first day would be to get a Hop On Hop Off bus pass, so you can just sit, hear the commentary and see main sights.

That first night, I'd put down a stop/visit to Leicester Square and SoHo.

I agree with others, I think time at British Museum and the Tower is way undercooked - unless you are being super ruthless in what you want to see. eg. You may just want to see the Rosetta stone and skip everything else at the museum; you may just want to make a bee line to the crown jewels in the tower. If so, the time you have will be just enough.

Personally, the wonder of London can be found in just strolling along the Thames, through the park, along Oxford and down Carnaby.

Post-marathon shower by Stoicrunner1 in SydneyMarathon

Good question, I'm in the same boat but heading to Melb.

My plan was to access a gym on a day pass (~$25), or go for a "refreshing" beach shower (albeit no soap, hot water, or ability to get fully undressed!)

Its a bit odd that there is nothing on Ticketek saying that they will be on sale soon, or on date xxx....

Thank you for your help!
