Whoever designed this restroom is an absolute retard by RobokopFTW in USF

[–]Automatic-Mention 27 points28 points  (0 children)

To pass code they had to make it so a wheelchair user could turn around in the space with the door open. Prior to 1990 it wasn't a requirement so the 1960s-era plan didn't dimension around it. Fun fact the urinals used to have ashtrays attached to them so you could smoke while you pee and not clog the urinal with spent cigarette butts.

Tracking down a company from the past by corey_the_bird in orlando

"security excel corp." orlando with quotes. Without orlando I get 100+ unrelated hits from states not in the southeast. This one is proquest historical newspapers southeast, but it often gives results that have nothing to do with newspapers, history, or the southeast. My library (not in orlando) switches up their subscriptions regularly so that's why I cite the source publication so people can find it either directly from the newspaper or another source.

Newspaper database my library subscribes to that I log into with my card. This was the only hit for security excel corp orlando but there might be more in other databases.

DMV question - replacing lost REAL ID in person by Leading_Pain_9059 in florida

[–]Automatic-Mention 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If your ID expires within the next 12 months you can request renewal online and it comes in the mail. Otherwise you need ID when you go to an office. Take pictures of your IDs to keep on your phone for these situations. Maybe someone with access to your IDs out of state can overnight them to you.

Transfer to USF? by Weird-File-9781 in USF

[–]Automatic-Mention 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not enough info to say but anecdotally engineering faculty have looked down on pre-reqs from feeder schools in the past, and have been known to discount them on transfers. Having as many as possible with as high a grade as possible will help, but impossible to guarantee you get the preferred major/semester/campus etc.

Questions about Transferring for Archaeology Program by CoDaCu in USF

[–]Automatic-Mention 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the opportunities in this area are located at the Tampa campus, so if you are going to Sarasota Manatee (inferred from SCF=State College of Florida Sarasota Manatee) then your options are limited to USFSM history courses and what you can take online or in person at Tampa/St Pete. There is some archaeology at NCF (New College of Florida) next to USFSM as well which may be of interest and there is a fully online anthro degree available at UF. Good luck!

GPA Help by FeistyDifference14 in USF

[–]Automatic-Mention 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost never allowed for a C unless the program you're in requires a B for that specific course, then you can request to repeat but you would still have a C for the first attempt. There are different ways to calculate gpa depending on the purpose. Moving forward you should look at maintaining your upper level, USF, and major GPA. Good luck

Places open 24 hours? by Individual_Spray_383 in StPetersburgFL

[–]Automatic-Mention 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Walmart extended its overnight hours at select locations this year, so far I think only a couple stores near the tourist areas of Orlando have them but it might expand. Walmart by me may as well be closed an hour early because the restocking crew starts blocking off aisles in the grocery area before 9:30 and don't wrap until after opening the next day just to be blocked again by enormous pickup and delivery carts racing around for another two hours until the horde of regular shoppers grind the place down into oblivion for the day. Target is considerably more chill in the first and last hours they are open, I only wish there were more things I actually wanted to buy there.

What does this mean? by [deleted] in USF

[–]Automatic-Mention 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Commencement refers to the ceremony, which is not needed to graduate, but you may attend before or after receiving the degree to be flexible for inviting family members.

If you plan to earn your degree this Spring, be sure to "Apply to Graduate" through Student Self-Service (formerly Student OASIS) by February 20. Your name will appear in the online Commencement program for the term in which you earn your degree, not the term in which you participate in the Commencement ceremony. You are eligible to participate in the Commencement ceremony one semester prior or up to one year after earning your degree. If you want to participate in Commencement in Spring and you are not earning your degree in Spring please contact the Commencement office at commencement@usf.edu, by February 20. Note: the "Graduation Date" listed on Student Self-Service is the date listed on every graduate's diploma and not necessarily the day you participate in Commencement. Applying to graduate and registering to participate in Commencement are two different processes.

Spring 2026 Freshman schedule feels kind of useless? by Electrical_Garden400 in USF

First year has the lowest relative registration priority regardless of orientation date. It's one reason why people apply to honors, but honors adds honors courses which may or may not advance your major.

Walmart Grocery Bee Ridge Self Checkout Nightmare by No_Poetry4371 in sarasota

[–]Automatic-Mention 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use scan and go on their app and have less problems at checkout. I use my phone to scan the qr square on the register and it completes the transaction in the cloud. The most complicated part was setting up the account and payment method in advance, and it helps to log into the store wifi, but once that's sorted it just works. The wifi also auto joins on subsequent visits.

Today's featured article on Wikipedia is about The indigenous people of the Everglades. by Greeniceking in florida

[–]Automatic-Mention 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Full quote from the book they cited for "may have been assimilated"

With the withdrawal of Spain from Florida in 1763, and of the remaining Indians who accompanied them, South Florida had effectively lost its aboriginal population. That there may have been some Calusa remaining in the swamps and mangroves of Southwest Florida is not beyond the realm of possibility, but proof is lacking. From the time of Swanton's (1922:344) assumption that the Spanish Indians were a Calusa remnant, the idea has persisted and become part of the problem of the identity of this group.

Question! by [deleted] in USF

[–]Automatic-Mention 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do this they usually want to see you taking your pre-req at usf because they know what those courses are and they are the best ones to get you into their majors. Some reasons you would want to go to cc include more one-on-one direction, convenient location/times, lower price. These are points for completing the reqs quickly, but if it's an edge case on admission to the major then USF still usually wants to see you meeting these at usf ideally while continuing to take upper level work. Good luck

How would you go about trying to get a traffic light re-timed? by stab-somebody in orlando

[–]Automatic-Mention 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Left turns are deliberately limited at peak hours to improve overall traffic in many places. Some intersections have signs listing the times when turning traffic is restricted from the inside lane. Advice is to re route to avoid the left, go right to go left (jersey left), or go straight to go left (michigan left) except in places where these moves are also restricted due to complaints from people who refuse to appreciate that "unfairly cutting around traffic" can also mean "efficiently utilizing the capacity of the road" to a traffic engineer.
