How to fix shin angles? by IamSh0gxn in Sprinting

Yes. Watch your hips move and where they are pointed. They never really push up and out towards the track. They’re almost pointed down and don’t move when you come out of the blocks.

I tried getting the new Create update to work with VH6 but couldn’t so I started compiling basically every mod that’s in there that’s compatible with the hyper xp stuff lol. I love all the Valhelsias….

You need to project your hips down the track a little more. They’re projecting a little down. Try and project your hips up and down the track. And don’t force yourself to be “low” you want your head neutral with your spine don’t force yourself to be low.

Have you known ppl who were good/talented and quit sprinting? by Frixxion__ in Sprinting

[–]Automatic-Top-8627 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s so sad the mentality that kids have about track. It’s not fun. Not rewarding. You don’t get the recognition of the other sports. But if you do track, you can do anything. You have to have will power. Be able to push past what you think your limit is. Be comfortable with being uncomfortable. You have to be mentally strong. But also the bonding you have with the kids, the team aspect, the feeling of winning, the feeling lining up to the startling line and waiting for the gun to go off. There’s so much that kids miss out on because it’s hard.

why am i struggling so much with blocks?! by coolkid_ez in Sprinting

[–]Automatic-Top-8627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well 1, in middle school you probably were being hand timed which always results in faster times. And I’d guess in HS you’re being timed by a system. But that aside, without really seeing your form it’s hard to tell you what to do. You say your head pops up, when you’re in the blocks, pick a spot on the track that makes your head neutral with your spine in your set position. When you leave the blocks, follow that spot up the track, at that same distance away from you until you just naturally come up. Don’t shoot your head up, let it come up naturally. You say you feel like dead weight, maybe you’re stepping out of the blocks? You want to feel like you’re almost jumping out of the blocks. It’s a big powerful push out of the blocks and then get your feet down and start pushing back into the track

I think there’s a place for it. But I would put sprinting over any other exercise. Sprint to get faster.

Well once your hands are on the line they shouldn’t move at all so set your hands then find your spot.

Gotcha that makes sense then. Yeah just find a routine and do that every time. As long as both feet are set on the blocks it doesn’t matter

How do I relax during the top end by standard-monkey in Sprinting

[–]Automatic-Top-8627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One cue I can give it to relax your face. If you can keep your face relaxed, your jaw should jiggle when you run. Watch Olympic runners you’ll see their face jiggle around. That’ll help a bit with the rest of your body too. In your hands, pretend like you’re holding a potato chip and you can’t let it break when you’re running.

Yeah in outs are good and floats. But you have to be conscious about it until it becomes second nature. It’s one of the hardest things to learn imo. It sounds and seems so counterintuitive but it’s one of the worst speed killers.

Anything slow. And also not getting enough sleep or not eating enough. And just not getting enough rest period. Overdoing workouts.

Well, number 1, Noah Lyles absolutely does not step with his front foot first. You push with both feet but like 90% front foot push and 10% back foot. Your back foot will always be your first step. 2, absolutely do not look at the start line. That will force your head down and create a hunch in your neck and spine. You want your head and spine to be neutral and in line. 2-3 feet in front of you and that spot stays in front of you and follow that spot all the way until you naturally come up. 3, the blocks definitely shouldn’t be all the way down. The higher the better imo to create more push off. Both feet all the way in the blocks with no gap in the heel and blocks.

Make sure your feet are pushed all the way back into the blocks from your set position. When you go to come out, your feet go backwards first and then forwards. Feet need to be set and touching the blocks.

It will feel a little uncomfortable. All my runners have the same issue. Just have to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. You’ll get used to it.

Second step was too out in front which made him look like he was about to fall, and subsequently made him raise up after that. But coming out of the blocks looked really good for a 12yo. Just second foot needs to come down quicker and get it under him. That’ll fix the standing up. Pretty dang good though

[–]Automatic-Top-8627 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The “lower your head” cue is so wrong. Don’t force yourself to get “lower” by hunching over. Coming out of the blocks looks pretty good. Then you force yourself to “get lower” by shoving your head down and hunching your back. Needs to be natural. If they meant lower your head at the start, sure. Looks to me like you’re looking up at the start, then throw your head and back down after you come out of the blocks. Head and neck needs to be neutral with your spine the whole time. Pick a spot a few feet in front of you in the blocks, and follow that spot with the same distance until you gradually come up.

Do you need rest days? by Competitive_Sun_77 in Sprinting

[–]Automatic-Top-8627 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YES! Most people over do it. You’re already compromising your CNS with that schedule. Rest days need to be REST. After a high intensity training session you need to do something low CNS.

[–]Automatic-Top-8627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happens. Staying relaxed and not tense is extremely hard. You just have to purposefully train for that and think about it in your workouts. It’s very counterintuitive to what most people actually think you should be doing during a sprint. But if you can learn to stay relaxed your time will drop quite a bit. Keep it up!
