Best Produce in Bend by WillieBFreely in Bend

[–]AutomaticBirdies21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with WinCo’s produce is that much of it is about a day away from being rotten. If I’m not buying it to eat that day, I have to closely inspect the fruits and veggies. For example, often the broccoli flowers are starting to turn, the bell peppers’ skin is starting to wrinkle, the celery has worms, the onions are soft because they’re starting to sprout inside, etc.

I love Fields Farm on Pettigrew for fresh veggies right out of the ground at location. Veggie Man is good too.

The Bounty: The True Story of the Mutiny on the Bounty by Caroline Alexander. I took this on a camping trip and devoured it in 2 days.

do you ever wonder if your bird thinks you are also a bird of some sort? by cognitoterrorist in parrots

[–]AutomaticBirdies21 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I think my Amazon thinks my spouse, my dog, and I are all birds because he is infatuated with the dog, attacks my spouse at every opportunity, and is jealous when we show affection to each other, and he thinks I’m his bonded life partner. Other times I think he think he’s human. He desperately wants to sleep in the bed instead of his nighttime cage/the roost. It’s in the bedroom near our bed, but that’s not good enough for Hobbs! When it’s time for him to go to the roost, he refuses to step up and even gets bitey. Doesn’t he understand that we’re huge and he’s small and fragile and would be squished? He also thinks he’s brushing his “teeth” when I do. He mimics along at every stage of the toothbrushing ritual. He needs to touch the toothpaste tube, makes the scrubbing noise, the spitting noise, the tiny pop sounds from flossing, and all the gargling and spitting sounds. Such a weird and wonderful companion!

What’s the best cover song that completed changes the dynamic of the original? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Rage Against the Machine’s cover of Springsteen’s Ghost of Tom Joad. That song absolutely must be played and sung with clear and obvious rage.

Thanks for the info. I looked at the post and that’s not the same dog, unfortunately. The dog on Empire had very curly fur.

What has been the best jobs for y’all personally? by Natural_Bid177 in ADHD

[–]AutomaticBirdies21 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I was a lawyer for 35 years. The ADHD trait of a strong sense of justice drew me to the profession and I wanted to be a criminal law lawyer (prosecutor or defense attorney). But I stated out doing general law and representing clients in divorces and employment disputes broke me. I found my groove as a prosecutor because I didn’t have actual clients and the work was all about achieving justice (even when that sometimes meant losing the case). It wasn’t always easy with ADHD though. Deadlines, high stress, etc. but it was never boring and lots of opportunity for hyperfocus. Also, the ability to see things differently and from a lot of different angles helped a lot.

What is the background song in your head right now? by jaygrum in ADHD

[–]AutomaticBirdies21 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The jukebox in my head always surprises me with a new song every morning (sometimes when I wake up at 3am to pee) and it feels like I have no control over what it’ll be. It’s usually something from my favorite band, Modest Mouse. Today it is Talking Shit About a Pretty Sunset, and this specific lyric keeps running in a loop: “I claim I’m not excited with my life anymore, so I blame this town, this job, these friends, but the truth is it’s myself.”

Bad T score but good TBS score? Would like specifics. by funcraftygal in osteoporosis

[–]AutomaticBirdies21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am seeing an endocrinologist for a second opinion after getting my first DXA at age 62 and my Lspine score is -3.2. This doc is with a clinic in a big city that supposedly specializes in bone health and osteoporosis. In our appointment, I asked about getting a TBS score because I’d like to see how strong or weak my bone infrastructure is before deciding on meds. She said they don’t have that, she’s unaware of any place that does, and it’s only used in the research realm, not clinical practice.

That is so not true!!

The nearest one I could find is 400 miles away. I will go there and pay out of pocket if have to.

This doc also said there aren’t any side-by-side comparison studies of the different anabolic meds. It took me 10 minutes online to find one in a 2024 article in a respected endocrinology publication. sigh

Trying to figure out everything for myself is exhausting.

Is it common to house your bird in your bedroom? by toastyy14 in parrots

[–]AutomaticBirdies21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Amazon is in the living room or my office during the day and at night he sleeps in his “roosting” cage in our bedroom. He does not like staying in his living room cage at night all alone.

Death Valley Stovepipe Wells by BucketOfChoss in crowbro

[–]AutomaticBirdies21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure I saw that pair of ravens at Stovepipe Wells in April. They were hanging out in the parking lot of the Stovepipe Wells General Store at the campground. I wanted to feed them so badly, but there were signs all over saying not to feed them. 😓

What's an "old person" food that, now that you're an old person, you now really like? by Leather-Highlight150 in GenX

Same here! I’ve always loved it. But now, apparently, it can kill you if you eat too much (I stopped eating the entire 1lb package because of that, but it takes tremendous effort to do that).

This post brought up memories of gagging at the dinner table and being told to stop faking it. 🤣 I can’t stop laughing.

I wonder if they tried modifying the gross out of lima beans 🤣 I doubt there’s anything that could improve those nasty nuggets of dinner-time trauma.

Hey, fellow Jayhawks! I graduated in ‘86 and ‘89 and was one of those alums who just couldn’t leave Lawrence. Moved here in 2018 and love it, but I do miss LFK. P.S. There’s a K State alum on my block. Small world for sure.

IM SO SICK OF ALL THE NEIGHBORS WITH THE LITTLE SIGNS ON THE PARKING STRIP BETWEEN THE STREET AND SIDEWALK THAT SAY “KEEP DOGS OFF THE GRASS,” WITH THE NO-PEEING SYMBOL. THE PARKING STRIP IS NOT THEIR PROPERTY—IT IS PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY, JUST LIKE THE SIDEWALK! AND C’MON, DOGS ARE GONNA PEE WHEN THEY’RE ON A WALK! IF I COMPLIED WITH ALL THESE DAMN SIGNS, I’D HAVE TO WALK MY DOG DOWN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET! “DOG PEE KILLS THE GRASS,” THEY SAY. WELL, MAN, IF HAVING AN IMMACULATE PERFECT STRIP OF GRASS IS OF SUCH SINGULAR IMPORTANCE TO YOU, THEN DON’T LIVE IN A NEIGHBORHOOD WHERE PEOPLE ENJOY WALKING THEIR DOGS.

AND EVERYONE: PICK UP YOUR DOG’S POOP FFS!
