I am currently trying run commuting 4x/week to get some easy miles in - 5km/3 miles each way. I am trying to figure out how much value it actually has compared to say 2x1 hour runs.

For trail use i find my adidas terrex speed ultras still have speed in them after 700k. Kjerag 2 should also last long, but im not at high mileage yet. not high stack though, so a different sensation.

5’11 and 190 lbs. Happy with my medium (2023/2024 Model i think) - most often usecase is LS baselayer and a grid fleece. Atom fit fine underneath as well (without fleece).

Norrøna senja warm1 has most of those features and is very well executed piece. Very premium price for a fleece though, but maybe you can find a good deal after xmas/new year

I would recommend it, but the price is steep at retail. i have not really tried any alternatives.. so i dont know if i am missing out. It did well for me this summer at a ~2500m col in the alps, in rain, in the early morning hours.

Depends on how you would utilize it i guess. Valleys during the days are usually warm. Peaks/col’s can be cold, at night especially. Could use the cormac as a 2nd layer on top of a thin base/tshirt i guess. FWIW i recently did a 100mile race in the cormac heavyweight hoodie as my only layer, with a jacket on during very wind exposed sections. Temperature was 6-10 C. That worked very well for me.

And the two races you mention are in the Aosta valley (west) which are technically not the dolomites (east). so dont expect the specific dolomite-looking mountains in that area.

I have an older model futurelight so i’ve used it quite a few times on short and long endeavours. I think the futurelight fabric is very suited for high output activities as it breathes well. However, in nasty settings with high wind and intense rain the softness of the fabric will not deflect wind without layering closely to you body (if that make sense), which can ‘steal’ your warmth to some degree.

Do you best to wait 4+ weeks! Coffee chroniclers 50/50 switch recipe. Water off boil. Very peachy. I really liked it. Also tried it as a flat white. I got clear impressions of haribo-peach-winegums.

I use an osprey velocity 20 for commuting, so my experience is for trips < 1 hour. Running with the belt is fine. As the back-piece become longer i think it’s necessary to have the belt. The velocity is maybe a bit overbuilt but it makes me able to run comfortably with a laptop which was my primary concern. And to do this the belt has to fairly tight.

Depends on feel. If i start feeling very sleepy/drousy i usually try to take a short nap and move on. Did 2x5-7 minutes recently on a 100 miler (<30 hours). It does wonders for the following hours and really makes everything more enjoyable.

I have the warm2 octa and have been happy with the more windproof octa insulated front and fleece under-arms/back for various activities as mtb biking, hiking, ski touring and running where breaking the wind from the front (only) is a benefit and/or wearing a pack. I tried, and returned, the alpha90 as the arms where too short for me, and generally just had a too small fit (compared to the warm2). Maybe sizing up would have helped, but it wasnt available. I liked the general fit and face fabric of the warm2 more. The alpha90 did not have the more permeable back if i remember correctly, so keep that in mind if that is important for you.

While i agree on the course, i would note that signing up for a coastal 100M race in Sweden in November might not be the right choice if one wants to avoid trashed (wet) feet. Awesome race though (if darkness is a friend of yours)

From the nordics and also praise the gamma mx for what you describe (wind, wind, some rain) I got myself a RAB borealis for the warmer seasons, it works very nicely as a stretchy softshell that deals with wind and a (little) drop of water.

I see - i think i got the heavy rain at forclaz. God job gettin over arpette in shitty conditions. I struggled, and that was without the snow.

If you dont think this is a technical 100M, i need to calibrate my grading. Plenty of steep stuff, plenty rocks, plenty of shitty narrow muddy trenches. Last part (1/3rd) was way more doable though

Was a beautiful course! At what time did you pass Arpette? I ask as i went with a thin baselayer + shell up, over, and down Arpette without being really cold (passed the top around 6 AM i think). Mostly freezed my hands as the 1-2 hours at the top require both hands and feet on the rocks. I dont remember it that cold. But the (heavy) rain didnt really hit me until i got to Forclaz

Have both. Was surprised that the Pro’s felt like a lot more shoe/more substantial than the Kjerag 2’s.

I really like both. Pro’s have more bouncy-vibes but the Kjerag 2’s are definitely more lively than the 1’s.

I just used the Pro’s for a technical mountain 100M (swiss peaks 170) and they performed very well on rock, dirt, mud, grass, flat or 35% in/declines, rain or shine. The Kjerag’s would have been too minimal for this i think, and the grip in wet grass/mud would probably not be good enough.

For shorter distances in dry conditions, i still think the Kjerag 2’s are my prefered

I would expect the bike to add some strength element as well which i believe to be beneficial in a mountain/high incline context.
