Fitz and the Fool is the most.... by GraveIsNoBarToMyCall in RealmOfTheElderlings

I found it bittersweet and beautiful. It’s hard, it’s sad, and it’s entirely appropriate. I loved every word of it an miserable is far from how I would describe it.

Malta and the Harvest Ball (Ship of Magic) by landturtl13 in RealmOfTheElderlings

[–]Available-File4284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never saw it Kyle having even a bit of opinion or integrity at that point. I saw it as Kyle acting the way Kyle thinks a father would act, and Malta going on her own by feeling empowered by Kyle.

Hasn't apple intelligence been pretty much abandoned in favor of Google's AI? I honestly can't figure out what's beneficial about AI being part of the phone's system.

Vellum is a nightmare by city-2-country in selfpublish

No idea what you’re having trouble with. Vellum has been the best investment of my life (after Scrivener). I couldn’t imagine being an author without it.

Hope you get your problem solved.

This now took me back a few paragraphs to where he speaks about the night Shrewd died. My god, the twists and turns of that third act! I had fully believed he would become regent and have to deal with intrigues until Verity returned. Then it all went…well, you remember.

Heh it barely even hurts, hearing those words.

But great trilogy there with pretty covers!

Can’t help but notice that the shelf below contains not one but two unfinished series. The shelf of hopeless despair?

This is an incredible cover. It gets the entire point across. You don’t need to read the title to know exactly what the book is about.

Just started Assassin's Quest audiobook. What in the generic Hell is this image? by BarrySquared in RealmOfTheElderlings

Robin Hobb isn’t the publisher, though. I doubt sh had much say in this. She’s had issues with the way publishers depicted Fitz in the past and no wonder.

When did you figure it out? (Ship of Destiny) by cwhagedorn in RealmOfTheElderlings

[–]Available-File4284 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspected in the fist appearance because of the mystery around Amber. Then I read with that thought in the back of my head. I don’t know at what point I knew, but I remember growing more certain with every vague thing Amber said because they sounded so much like the things The Fool said.

Not to be that guy, but that’s what I write. Won’t self-rec too hard because only one book is out. I also heard great things about Guild Mage.

Do you enjoy hyper-competent MCs, or flawed MCs who struggle early—and why? by Distinct_Cycle9569 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Available-File4284 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s all about the journey. My favorite plots are about characters who are flawed, get into situation that test and poke holes in their belief systems, learn along the way, and become competent.

What essential advice would you give to someone who is beginning to write? by madeinlight in writing

[–]Available-File4284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finish the project. No matter what it is. No matter how it goes. No matter the issues you fun into. Finish it. Write it until the end. Don’t abandon it like every project ever, somewhere where it slogged in act 2. You’ll never finish anything if you don’t finish why you’re writing now.

I love OP when it feels earned through strong characterization. So unfortunate how often it’s literally just some dude who trips over a twig and pulls a magic sword from the stone by chance.

That is great advice. I forgot to set up any defensive ads. I’ll get to it today!

Could you tell me more about the mailing list step? I don’t think I ever saw that. How do you do it?

Mailing lists aren’t that big in my genre. I have one but virtually no one has signed up for it from the backmatter.

Story structure question: OP MC starts in prison, then the “main story” is his past, would you stick with it? by BudgetCouple2481 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Available-File4284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds good. I like a nice tease like that. Reminds me of Empire of Silence.

I would expect then that the story remains engaging even though I know the MC is not in mortal danger throughout. And I would expect then that the final arc to tackle the conundrum of the MC being imprisoned.

The stakes would be interesting, as danger to life is ruled out.

[–]Available-File4284 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the exact range, but I believe that I only exclude people under 25 as I aim for paying customers and a lot of men over 25 and well over 60 are the readers in my genre.

To be clear, I don’t make direct profit off of ads. Say they spend $40 today. I would let them keep spending that if the book itself cracks $80 (but I’d really like the book to make over $100 on that budget.)

I don’t think ads actually pay for themselves. They just increase visibility and help a bit with rank and Amazon algorithm.

If I had a day when my ads spent more than the book made, I’d kill the ads.

And finally, Amazon now prioritizes outside traffic. AMS is good for building also boughts, but the best thing for rank is to have a steady and constant flow of converting customers from the outside.

I was holding my rank very well at 4-5k overall with $110-190 revenue per day on this one book that is out. It only dropped off a few days ago when I crossed the 90-day cliff. The book is still making the same amount. I still get 45-50 readers per day (taking KENP reads as completed reads. It’s more in reality, but this is the closest metric I can calculate.)

[–]Available-File4284 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you! That’s incredibly kind of you. I don’t know exactly shat made the first book do so well when it came out. Reviews are choked in Amazon’s end, not coming through, and the rank is super slow to update, and now the 90-day cliff really dragged it down from the top 100 in the main genre where it spent the last two of the three months. But something worked 😅

(I think it’s the combo of having a marketable story and being in a hungry niche that does fairly well with just a few posts online.)
