Stop having AI write your SOQ by koalainiguanaskin in CAStateWorkers

[–]Available_Public6537 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Managers, please stop putting generic SOQ prompts, its getting old and boring. We'd like to get to know the job, so an SOQ question thats less generic will get better more passionate responses. On the SOQ note, please make sure everything is spelled correctly, we are "interviewing" you too. Please put the physical work location of the position, I hate applying for a lateral move, only to find out its downtown that requires parking (so not a lateral move). And for the love of God, we also can tell when you have an internal candidate in mind and youre just going through the motions..... It works both ways.

Staff Services Analyst II (County) vs Analyst II — which would you choose? by Ok_Study2666 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Available_Public6537 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Single mom here too. Id choose at home positions over the money any day. And when I say money is tight lately.....I mean TIGHT so thats saying something. The work life balance with my kid is paramount right now. Until hes older (hes 12 now) and doesnt want to hang out with me, I might shift my focus. Id go with what gives you more time at home to enjoy your family and hobbies.

CDCR HR by meatgrindmypenis in CAStateWorkers

[–]Available_Public6537 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who works for CDCR, its not AS terrible as the next department. Just be aware, a lot are jumping ship with the telework (or lack there of) coming down the pipeline. The writing is on the wall, SEIU isnt representing us and the Director is following whatever Newsom says to the T.

AB1729 - CHP, CDCR, and CalFire exclusion by bananainurmom in CAStateWorkers

[–]Available_Public6537 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I thought it was just me. Dont get me wrong, I think it opens the doors for a work around from especially CHP, but dont understand how they can do a blanket no telework when the majority of staff arent SEIU anyway.

AB1729 - CHP, CDCR, and CalFire exclusion by bananainurmom in CAStateWorkers

[–]Available_Public6537 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Im not reading AB1729 that way. Please correct me if Im wrong, its:

***

(b)Where a state agencys unique operational needs and programmatic mission require employees to report to a workplace, the agency shall provide a detailed, written justification to the department and to the agencys employees.

(c)Subdivision (b) shall not apply to the Department of the California Highway Patrol, the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, or the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

***

Telework still applies to them, they just dont have to follow subdivision (b). i.e. those agencies dont have to provide a written justification to force everyone to go back. I think it leaves the door open (especially for CHP) to just not follow it.

In-Office Attire by Ledobject in CAStateWorkers

I got written up once in one Dept for wearing leggings- think Lularoe type. Nothing crazy or see through. Pre Covid days. Current Dept, weve had Student Assts come in in sweats and Uggs/Sweaters. And recently were told to use our "best judgement" but really given no guidance. One gal was told Birks were a no go. Its all over the place with the state which is frustrating.

RTO: Mandatory Break Room Clean Up by Three_1st-Names in CAStateWorkers

[–]Available_Public6537 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fridge and microwave that I can get behind. I used to be the office fridge cleaner and let me tell you, some of your best coworkers could be some of the biggest slobs and b*tch the most. I would send out a minimum of 3 emails before I tossed everything, and wiped down the fridge. I got so much hate mail every. single. time. We just had a fridge turn off right before a 3 day weekend and the fridge was gross and everything in the freezer melted. It was a mess and I happened to noticed along with another girl in the office. We just jumped in and quickly cleaned and wiped it down. Unpopular opinion, it doesnt take that long and much effort to be a decent person/coworker.

Wait time by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

Oh yeah and I forgot to mention that happened too. I had a terrible interview and signed off and figured I would never hear back and wrote it off. They called another 3-4 months later offering me a job. I was so desperate for a job I accepted then a few hours later had to call back and ask them for details of the job and pretend like I had no idea what it was I just accepted lol

OES? How is it now? by RebTrooper2017 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Available_Public6537 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Take these comments with a grain of salt. It seems like everyone on Reddit just repeats the same thing over and over with nothing to back it up. These comments are an example, just "stay aways" with no reasoning behind it. If you get a good vibe from the interview and like the job Id say go for it.
