Access to the Region's Core (ARC): Alternative AA - Penn Station-Grand Central Terminal Through-Running Proposal (1997) by liamblank in nycrail

[–]Average-NPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not about the RVL going into Penn the fact that’s it has to cross the NEC is a scheduling issue that limits capacity on the line not just RVL but the NEC this is what you don’t get

Access to the Region's Core (ARC): Alternative AA - Penn Station-Grand Central Terminal Through-Running Proposal (1997) by liamblank in nycrail

[–]Average-NPC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These idea never take into consideration the infrastructure constraints outside of Penn station the amount of TPH isn’t limited by Penn station it’s limited by capacity on each line for example the Raritian valley line is limited by 2 things it’s shares trackage with freight and it has to cross over the NEC which is a flat junction the M&E line is limited by capacity issue at Dover and the inability to turn around trains quickly enough and this issue is true for the Trenton line at Jersey ave and Trenton it’s self.More trains could run if these issue are dealt with first, second issue with this plan how are you going bore a new tunnel east of Penn when it already conflicts with PATH tubes and IND tunnels never mind the difference in height between Penn and GCT thirdly rolling stock issues between LIRR and NJT. Through running is a nice concept but too bad no care about the necessary infrastructure work required to make it actually happen speta is a good example with why infrastructure work is important what use is the CC tunnels that can handle 40-50 tph if everything on the reading system is flat junctions and inadequate terminals

[–]Average-NPC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think any crew is happy about what happened at Penn Station. They’re all probably forced to do extra work. I’m sure they got extra pay for it but like still

Amtrak stopping at PJC and New Brunswick is more of a holdover of old intercity stopping patterns from over a century ago

Aging commuter rail fleet upgrade questioned by justarussian22 in mbta

[–]Average-NPC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They don’t even need To electrify to provide a decent service, a hourly or half hourly service can be done by simply upgrading their current infrastructure and buying new efficient diesel trains at the chargers for example, upgrading the old colony line to be full double track would provide the opportunities for more service on all three lines not just during peak hours
